The Brexit campaigners all publicly said that if they lose and it's a closely ran thing they'll try again and again plus the "once in a generation" was a rallying campaign slogan and has no constitutional relevance, much the same as the £350million a week for the NHS lie. Why the outrageous double standards always? Why should people on one side of the spectrum be allowed to demand certain standards and adherence to a set of "rules" which they themselves regularly flout and wouldn't adhere to in a million years, not only that would claim persecution if such parameters were set for them by others.

It's a possision where you can not shoot or being shot so you do nothing. I think that it's an australian term to ilustrate the situation in the mexican revolution where three revolutionary groups had to negotiate to organize the goverment because no one could defeat the others.

@@Dannydantimpat DNA analysis over the past 15 to 20 years has revealed that the people of Ireland and Great Britain (as well as much of nearby northwestern/western continental Europe) share a common genetic ancestry going back to the end of the last ice age.
By the time it is appropriate to think of the Irish and (Celtic) British as separate peoples culturally, say 1500 to 2000 years ago, there were extensive interactions between Ireland and the western parts of Great Britain. For example, there are archaeological remains of Irish settlements in what is now Wales, and the Ulaid (from present-day Co. Antrim) established the kingdom of Dál Riata in western Scotland. It is reasonable to assume that there was an exchange of DNA among the Irish and the Britons at that time (though, despite their cultural/linguistic differences, both groups were still essentially identical from a genetic perspective).
The ancient Irish were enthusiastic slave-raiders and brought many slaves over from Great Britain. After the fifth century AD, their victims necessarily included Anglo-Saxons, and thus we may expect that “English” (as opposed to British) genes began to enter the Irish gene pool from then on. The importation of British/English slaves continued after the Norse established Dublin and other towns and largely superseded the Irish as slave traders.
The English invaded Ireland in 1169-71. As the Cambro-Norman official Gerald of Wales described in his Expugnatio Hibernica (“The Conquest of Ireland”) (1189), these “English” included Normans, Flemings and Welshmen. They settled mainly in Leinster and parts of Munster, where they and their descendants often intermarried with the Irish. Surnames of medieval Anglo-Norman and Welsh origin are still common in those parts of Ireland.
The late 16th and early-to-mid 17th centuries saw the influx of significant numbers of English and Scots settlers, particularly in Ulster but also in parts of Munster. The big difference between these settlers and the Irish (both of Gaelic Irish and Anglo-Norman descent) was that the newcomers were Protestant and the Irish were Catholic. This diminished the possibilities for intermarriage, especially in Ulster where the settlers had sufficient critical mass numerically to maintain a separate cultural identity. But hormones will be hormones, and a certain amount of exchange of genetic materials took place nonetheless.
Of course, aside from the large influxes of English and Welsh in 1170-1200s and English and Scots in the 1580s-1600s, there was always a constant traffic of smaller numbers across the Irish Sea-officials, soldiers, merchants, adventurers-and these left their mark as well.
So, to return to your question: While we may not be able to say whether all Irish people are part English, Scottish or Welsh, it is indisputable that over the course of history, strong dashes of English, Welsh and Scots seasoning were added to the genetic Irish stew. But before there ever were Irish, English, Welsh or Scots, all four peoples shared a common ancestry.

Scots and Scots alone have legal claim and title to the lands of Scotland ..If Boris Johnson doesn't do the gentlemanly thing and agree the referendum Scots have an choice they can dissolve the union themselves and legitamitely declare Independence this with an show of hands and simple majority in the Scottish parliament or call an referendum to let the Scottish people have there say then MSPs can decide and vote on the matter following the will of the people as there mantra...The Scottish parliament an soveriegn parliament that governs the lands of Scotland legally doesn't have to have an referendum or seek Westminsters approval since it already has the mandate and status for independence in its manifesto commitments and law but it's an democratic choice the MSPs seem to favour. .The law in Scotland and internationally carries more weight than Boris Johnson and his Westminster government as there's nothing to stop Scotand tearing up the act of union declaring independant status to put up barbed wire fences border posts and guards..and this with or without an referendum agreed or not by Boris Johnson...In short given the sovereign status of Scotland an free state and Scotlands agreement to the union then Boris Johnson and Westminster dont govern Scotland unless Scots want them too...

devolved powers just a joke ... meaning whenever westminster feel unsafe and insecure with all the powers given out ... they still can take back the devolved powers with so called "overwhelming majority of democracy" in england ONLY ... no matter what majority is held by the oppositions in Scotland + Wales + Northern Ireland ...

I'd like to think Nicola Sturgeon can talk them into it better than Alex Salmond but she's making the same mistakes raving on about "independence" and "Scottish government taking control" and doesn't seem to understand that independence is the establishment of whole new sovereign and independent state which going to need its own financial and economic institutions among other things. Here's what should be put to her and she'll need sufficent answers to convince the Scottish people.
CENTRAL BANK: The Bank of England is the UK central bank, the Republic of Ireland has the Central Bank of Ireland. What about Scotland?
CURRENCY: Sterling is the UK currency (governed by the Bank of England), Ireland had the Punt (governed by the Central Bank of Ireland) before adopting the Euro. What currency would Scotland's central bank issue? A brand new currency possibly called the "Scot" or join the Euro?
STOCK EXCHANGE: The UK has the FTSE, Ireland has the ISEQ (pronounced eye-zeck), What about Scotland?
STATE BROADCASTER: The UK has the BBC, Ireland has RTÉ, both funded by a TV licence fee. What about Scotland?
POSTAL SERVICE: The UK has Royal Mail, Ireland has An Post (pronounced "on pust" which is Gaelic for "The Post"). What about Scotland?
NATIONAL AIRLINE: The UK national airline is British Airways, Ireland has Aer Lingus (founded by the Government of Ireland in 1936). What about Scotland?
PASSPORT: The UK passport has "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" on the front cover with "UK citizen" under nationality, the Irish passport has "Ireland" on the front cover with "Irish" under nationality. What about Scotland?
MILITARY: The UK has the British Armed Forces, Ireland has the Irish Defence Forces. What about Scotland?
HEALTH SERVICE: The health service in the Republic of Ireland is the HSE (Health Service Executive) which is only free to people who can't afford it (such as pensioners, unemployed, people on low income) and they're eligible to obtain a "HSE Medical Card" to avail of the service for free. And those who can afford it don't get it for free and have the option of buying health insurance. If Ireland was to copy the UK's NHS the Irish people (both low earners and high earners) would pay an average €300 extra a year income tax. Ireland's low earners would be paying extra tax (for NHS style) and many of them are already getting the HSE for free. As for the high earners, the extra tax (for NHS style) may be more than their optional health insurance. So would Scotland copy the NHS, or Ireland's HSE?
THE UNEMPLOYED: In the UK Jobseekers Allowance to over 25's is £74.70 a week, in Ireland it's €203 (£176.51) which is nearly £102 more. What would Scotland's unemployed receive?
