Extremely interesting and important!
Only halfway through this and needed a break - not from fatigue - but from wanting to take a breath to let it sink in, to mull over some very substantive ideas. In a addition to the quality of material the slightly scripted 'call for a response' format actually works really well - including the 'old-school over to you' mic-switching. From an educational perspective it serves to effectively 'chunk' or pace the delivery; something that rarely happens in YT videos. This is an exemplar of how to seamlessly combine form and content - other channels please take note! Regarding the content - being able to hear such articulate and measured first hand reportage of how our most 'significant global other' currently sees us is literally invaluable even if more than a tad depressing. Thank you Critical Theory Workshop, meanwhile back to work...
Excited to listen to this lecture, I really like how Roland Boer frames the idea of 'historical nihilism' in an anti-AES context. In the mean time I'm a big fan of Gabriel Rockhill and specifically his lectures and interviews, and I was wondering if he would like to come on my channel to discuss his work, past, present and future.
Thanks!
Feel free to ask him: gabriel.rockhill@gmail.com
@@criticaltheoryworkshop5299 Will do, thanks
Rockhill is a twat, intellectually speaking.
@@galek75no signal. 100% noise.
Excelent. Thank you both.

Around timestamp 20:50 Roland Boer talks about sharing the material about the Chinese discourse online and in print. I would be very interested in this material and want to know if those "locations for this material" are still known, and if that's the case if we could get some hints to it here in the comments.
Thank you very much for this very necessary insight into Eastern Marxism.
Loved this talk. Very informative and thought provoking.
Amazing!
This is so amazing. I just wish the audio were better
Please improve the production quality of these important talks. More people will listen with better audio and some editing.
Excellent stuff, thank you
thank you!
It's too bad that the speakers didn't get closer to the microphone.
I'm not comfortable with the characterisation of Deng; but i cannot really engage with this because i can't hear it.
Other talks in the same room are recorded much better.

At 41:24 Boer uses a word(s) TWICE that is unintelligible. The west is not only “in decline,” it is “????” What is that word and where can I make a financial contribution to get you guys some decent microphones.?

What do you think of Paul. Cockshott’ S socialist theorizing?
TANKIES
Empty thinking of socialism. Awesome
get vaccinated
@@martinjanecek4950 Your obsession is not related to the video or the OP's comment.
Don't worry it's a bunch of tankies in a echo chamber 🤣
If the socialist project is George Lakey-esque, Nordic, implicitly racist state socialism, I am 100% out. If it is aimed at returning land and shutting down the death machine of consumer technofeudalism, I am 100% in. That distinction is just not being made clearly in affluent left politics, for pretty obvious reasons.
The "progressive but materially comfortable" left are hoping for a loophole where they don't have to share land, share schools, share workplaces, share meetings, share decision making, with people they deem as less than... this can cut across many categories of racism, classism, ableism, misogyny, queerphobia. Without an honest accounting of this, the left cannot achieve structural change.
At " 14:00 he speaks of an "acceleration of production" of industry, factories, material output etc. However that always comes at an ecological cost. Damage to ecosystems, extraction and mining, loss of clean habitat and many problems of pollution. How nice to discount all that, and keep talking about poverty and justice. China is a massive polluted dump in that context. Fertility rates are falling in every large Chinese city. One just has to go and see it first. So much for acceleration be it communist, socialist or capitalist. We must remember, that there is no such thing as a free lunch. One cannot expect "justice" beyond biophysical limits and ecological overshoot.
