  • It's been 2 weeks since our last recording, and we've dove headfirst into the van build! We talk about putting in insulation, running wiring, building our subfloor (with the help of Morley's parents), and how our families reacted to our van life plans. Plus, we get a surprise visit right at the end of the episode!

I think the highlight of this is how you and Eden interact, as a couple! Wishing you two much happiness and memories!!

I know we're a few weeks behind right now. But i really hope you get to show a non-victron based individual component system. So many new van people take the easy way out and just do an ecoflow delta pro or something. Or pay way too much for blue painted components. I think server rack batteries and all in one inverters like the growatt 3k provide the best bang for the buck. This opens up options for mini split DC air conditioning. As Canadians you are going to desperately need ac if you are exploring the south. Our winter is your hottest summer. Most DC powered air conditioning works on 12 or 24v, so plan that accordingly before defaulting to the server rack standard of 48v. I went with 24v for my build as it's easier to find yacht and large truck components that were designed for 24v. 48v is good for efficiency between the battery and inverter, but forces a step down converter for fridge and lights. If you haven't already the older videos from will prowse shall give great education. This comment is too long, good luck. Warm (or cold) wishes from Florida.

Really enjoying these podcast episodes. You two are so relaxed and natural on camera that you’ve managed to create a dynamic that feels less like you’re talking at us (like many podcasts can feel) and more like a conversation between friends 😊

Another fun look into your process! Looking forward to how what you already know affects the build and what new things you learn along the way.

People just coming out of "nowhere" at the end of the video just made it so much more "natural" (if that makes sense - bare with me... foreign bloke here 😁) loving this step-by-step sort of videos you guys are sharing with us. keep it natural guys. so called imperfections sometimes makes things even better than full on extra editing etc.
Makes it feel real - as if we were actually the ones joining you right there 🙂
As soon as an episode ends, can't wait for the next one.
Awsome job guys - keep it up 🙂

these are so fun. I'm glad Eden is getting equal credit and interaction. You're both so great on camera and the family surprise at the end was funny and authentic. Keep up the great work, I can't wait to see where this goes.

Are you starting to plan out the stops on your tour yet? Are you taking suggested stops?
I consider myself a small creator/maker, but my medium is model railroading. There is a lot of 3D printing in model railroading, but unfortunately I have very little space, so the 3D projects just keep piling up. Model Railroading is a great hobby due to all the different sub hobbies as well as touching on all aspects of STEAM.
If you are taking suggestions on stops, I would love to have you come visit my studio and do some small 3D printing projects. -Heath

Did I hear you say you put AC and DC wire in the same conduit? As short as your runs are, that SHOULDN'T cause you problems, but it can. IF you run into issues where you find your DC circuits will turn on, but not off, or your DC circuits just turn on by themselves: This is probably due to the AC line in the conduit alongside the DC causing an induced voltage (basically you'll get a DC voltage that will climb up and store in the wires of the AC lines). (Or vise versa, I don't remember the exact direction).

Love this series! Love to see you both on video.
I found your channel earlier this year and Morley, you have inspired me to get back into 3-D printing!
Also love the videos of you making things for Eden! Love the love that you guys share and can’t wait to see this materialize during this series!
BTW the work you guys did so far looks great.
If you guys head to NYC I will be there 😊.

I recently watched a video where a guy summarized a TON of van build regrets to see what most people regret they didnt or did do. i think it could be an insightfull watch. i think its called something like ultimate vanlife regrets, not quite sure.

Hey I have a new idea for you. Although it would not be the best you could make a work shop in a van. A miter saw would fit and your planer. And if you just have a big table at the end of the van, that could be where you do your epoxy pours.👍

It's possible! I will definitely bring SOME tools, the question is, how many. I think I can do a lot by collaborating with other makers on the road.
