After making my video on the German Maus heavy tank, some of you were kind enough to abide by my new "13 horsepower per ton minimum" rule and suggest a light tank turned tank destroyer, the French AMX-13 HOT. The AMX-13 HOT is certainly not the best tank destroyer out there, being nothing more than an AMX-13 with six HOT anti-tank missiles strapped to it, hence the "low effort" in the title. However, it is still a fairly fun tank to play if you are cautious.

@@noteno3513 brits can be DEADLY from 2.3 to 3.7. But unless you're driving a sherman or a churchill (gun carrier included) you have to ride like a cossack

Since France doesn't get any IFVs, you should play the AMX-30, trying to get as many kills with the autocannon. It's honestly kinda fun.

How to make a good tank:
Step 1 have something fast
Step 2 add missiles
Step 3 realize I know nothing about tanks but it will probably work out anyway
Small + Fast + Guided missiles of any sort = OP

Try the amx 13 ss11. It is similar to the hot but its at the same br as the regular amx 13

The ss11 just got nerfed hard in the latest patch. They are slower and have less explosive mass.

The AMX 13 SS11 is way better imo. The positioning of the missiles aimed upwards allows you to easily shoot over walls and hill tops and kill enemies on the other side using the WASD guidance. They can't even see you. On maps like abandoned factory you're nearly unstoppable, you can camp the A point and shoot infinite missiles over the walls. There are so many map locations where that position of the missiles is a huge advantage.
The HOT missiles on the higher br version however are positioned on the sides, which plays into the AMX 13 worst weakness. It is very difficult to use cover/corners because the gun positioned at the back of the tank means your front is sticking way out unless u back in to position always. This is made worse by the HOT missiles being on the sides. So many times the missile got blocked by a corner of building or shrubbery and blew up in my face, then enemy knows my location and kills me.
HOT is not a bad tank, but I no longer have it on my active bar for any BR.
0:58 except that France never did use AMX 13 with HOT missiles strapped to it they used the S.11 ones, By the time France invented the HOT missiles they used it on vehicles like the VAB, Gaijin found one photo of an AMX 13 HOT and it was enough for them to make it in the game as a tech tree vehicle same for the garbage Mars 15, while France is still waiting for actual used in combat French tanks that had ATGM like the VBCI, P4, VBL even the ELC with ATGM variants that worked and have more materials and are in actual museums unlike the AMX 13 HOT not even talking of the on paper Mars 15...

If we don't accept/remove every tank not used in service, every country in the game even big 3 gonna lost a lot of stuff.
Char 25t is probably my favorite tank in the game. French lights in general are great
I agree. It's so much fun and sometimes, just sometimes, it'll bounce a shot from something that should've one-shot'd you. It has ok armour for a light tank. Haha.
Idk I had the least fun grinding French tier 1s personally, it probably was just me but I couldn't always pen other tanks and they always felt incredibly slow

I'll second this but Odd had a point about it's BR rating. Can't pen most tanks in it's BR so it heavily relies on speed and missiles to kill. After 6 you're basically just a sitting SP farm.
Tbh I personally cannot *stand* either Odd or Phly. Unfortunate that they are the two biggest war thunder content creators.
It could be due to different servers, Spookston plays US and Odd plays EU. I play both and in my experience US server are generally easier to play in.

I would like to see you play the AML/Eland. It's essentially a prius someone strapped a 90 on top of. It's wobbly, but extremely small and fast.
You'd think it would be good for flanking but the engine is so loud people can hear you 500m away.

Here's a vehicle suggestion: Ratel 90
It is an IFV from Edgy Australia; it's very large, can be destroyed by a heavy machinegun, it doesn't have the greatest off-road mobility and it only has HEAT-FS.
I really like it.
"Only has HEAT-FS," which can kill anything at its BR. Just a colossal vehicle from the 1970's, plopped into the middle of WW2.

I'm always hoping for more light tank and wheeled stuff for France.
We can get the VBL family, some sort of wheeled wiesel (autocanon/atgm/AAM), the Vextra (a French centauro brother with 105 or 120mm), and the VBCI, similar to the VBI Italian, but with 2 variants: 25mm or 40mm + atgm.
Plus others.
Would be really nice, actally only 2 light tank on the 2 last Rank, not fun for use the drones.

@@mathieu722 I'm not against american tanks in the french tech tree. Theres just something so lazy about giving them the M36B after it was just added in the last update. Why wasn't it added to france and the us with the last update? Or an even more important question, why is the DF105 still only in the german techtree despite being a french and German project?

I know you probably will be busy with the update content, but ive personally found the df105 to be a neat little light tank, and the 5 second reload is really fun
That tank is underrated.
Yea, they COMPLETELY ruined this tank with the recent update.
The missiles come out super high when launched now, making them useless against anyone closer than 600 meters; at the same time, the missile fidgets a lot at longer ranges and isn't entirely accurate, which means the missiles are barely usable.
In the end, you are left with a 6.7 tank (that's already overtiered), but at 8.0 which constantly gets uptiered to 9.0.
This tank is a 3.7 chassis with a 5.0 gun, as much as I love the AMX-13s, this thing is basically useless.
Those HOT missles launch pretty quick and love some of there "flight paths".
The lack of gameplay for this vid makes me wonder if Spook is cappin on how fun it really is

This thing is honestly not terrible, doesn't really deserve to be 8.0 but the missiles can kinda make up for what it lacks in firepower. Best thing about this tank is the fact that you can 3rd person fire the ATGMs from behind certain pieces of cover and ridgelines because the guidance system is on the top of the turret.
I honestly remember using the HOT lostly as a CQC shotgun, had some fun encounters using it like that
I only really know this tank from the first campaign of Nuclear Strike. It and the M-47 are the heaviest tanks you fight in the region. It's really not a match for the Super Apache, especially if you know how to circle strafe.
I'd love to see you play the Mars 15, seems like something you'd enjoy.

As a new player to warthunder, the whole up tier thing is so brutal and unfair I feel. Then the one time I get down tiered it feels unfair to the other guys because I'm just pumbling them
Yeah personally I think the BR matchup system sucks. Playing 5.3 US is misery because of the constant uptiers. I once had 17 matches in a row of full uptiers. It wouldn't be so bad if it was only like 1 BR step (like 5.3 could be matched against 5.0 or 5.7) instead of the way it is now.

The AMX 13 hot is especially funny in SB, because it’s more slow paced, and you can get awesome positions and clap enemies

Play the 8.0 Chadley. People sleep on it so much but those TOWs and thermals are ballin, not to mention the lineup around it.
If u like ATGMs strapped to a AMX-13 u should really check out the Peruvian Alacran which is Amx-13 with the turret removed with 3 Kornet ATGMs and a M2 browning machine gun
I think you should try the new CV90105 XC-8 if you have it. It’s just a straight upgrade compared to the old TML with a .3 BR increase.

Wish they'd add French IFVs already like the AMX 10P or the AMX VCI. Both of this have versions with autocanons, regular guns, and ATGM carriers.
There should be more wheels for everyone, VBCI and VAB for France, BTRs for Russia, boxer for Britain etc
@@aynersolderingworks7009 that too but maybe VCBI is too advance or modern? It could prolly be put it though. One thing that should be added at some point is the ATOM which is an incredibly interesting prototype that's a rabbit hole in it's own.

It's by far from the best. Very situational and only works in some maps and at some distances.

Try Panzer III L, its honestly a really fun german tank that doesnt feel super under tiered like a Panzer 4, its got a fast reload, decently fast, decent armour, decent pen, its such a fun ride

Not a vehicle suggestion, but what do you think about Gaijin adding/changing game modes? War Thunder really could use updated game modes that don't just devolve into team deathmatch.

Well, this tank is pretty much lost it’s touch with the new update. The missiles aren’t able to be guided right after firing, they take off vertically and you have to force them back down to hit a target. Not to mention it’s much more touchy and prone to drifting

I suggest you trying out the new VK 30.02 (M), the Panther D's older brother. New in the update, less armor, engine stays the same. This makes it pretty mobile, especially with the almost ten ton weight loss.
I haven't played it but putting it at 5.0 seems crazy to me.

The random movements on the missiles remind me of the rakjgpz 2. I hate that it runs manual, and that the missiles are large for the volumetric. They always seem to drop low within the first ten meters and hit the ground.

Let's look at what they added and changed, lol.
The US got another M36 costing a very mild 71K xp (lmao) over just wanting the roof and shells fixed. Every single other nation has their share cancer M36's with HEAT at the same BR. Speaking of share cancer, France also got the same tank at the SAME br this update (ffs gaijin). 71K where the difference for intents and purposes is the 6046 engine instead of GAA, and now you've got a muzzlebrake to get cheesed.
They give us Skink at 4.7 but Rank *4* so you can't use it until you've ground past the Rank 3 4.7's into 6.0 territory. Meanwhile, Panther prototype VK30.02M sitting smug at Rank 3, 5.0 (soon to be 4.7) with 24% less research cost on the vehicle boosting 5.3 Germany.
Russia got more top tier, as in another T-80, lmao. I also could swear they've down tiered some Soviet cope mobiles as well, since I am seeing spams of T-62 and T-55 y2k edition in 7.3 France post war/Korea big igloo.
@@lector-dogmatixsicarii1537 I know. I have few beginner friends and they grinded to 5.3 germany in few days. They were surprised how easy it was. I like low tier Germany because Panzer 4 H is very undertiered. Besides that I hate Germany in this game. Ruins matchmaking for me.
The funnies thing is that they added another 10.7 MBT for Russia. Russia already had the strongest top tier lineups. It's insane.
France isn't getting mass produced EBRs, there is Lynx 6x6 to be added after aml 90. France's biggest heavy tank would be fun. Gaijin is mainly focused on Russia and Germany. Df 105 is an another French hybrid which isn't in French tech tree. Sk 105 is because community got mad. British deserve more love as well. Warrior, Mephisto and other should be able to shoot on move. IT 1 does that for fucks sake.
