I love my Galaxy S10 because it has an SD card slot and headphone jack. Samsung is really dropping the ball here by removing functionality that people need.
Exactly what I was thinking. I have a Galaxy S9. I was thinking about upgrading but may just go with the Galaxy S10. They really screwing up by removing the micro sd card slot. Having the micro sd card slot makes them stand out from apple.
Yeah their excuse for removing them eas because the majority of people dont use them... i dont remember there being a poll to ask people what they use and dont use but yeah... way to go Samsung!

It's rediclous that people have to resort to this why remove such a handy thing from a phone ive always used memory cards so much easier especially when you upgrade phones you just take your memory card out and pop it into your new phone and all your music and stuff is there were as now it's gunna be more of a drawn out process they clearly didn't think this through at all. While this is a handy little tool it's not practical this will eventually wear out your charging port
@J-Funk it's daft With technology and what's it's capable of we have stick flash drives in our charging ports they should at least off cloud storage that we can play out music on without having to download it the Songs before we can play them imagine how much data that would use of your out and about and want to download the songs you have on cloud
Samsung blew it , this is no substitute for an scard reader . No one can really walk around with this in theire phone. They eventually will cause damage to the port . S21ultra is a flagship, and no sdcard reader is unacceptable !. Thank u for posting this work around !

Samsung removing that SD card support is practically a deal-breaker for me. I have several friends that have went with the Samsung forever and removal of that card made them go to different brands. I like your idea and thank you for posting this. Have you considered using a USB C cable going into the phone, then plug your necessary adapters to the end of that cable then you won't bump that fragile connection. If the cable was USB C male and the other end a USB a female then you should be able to remove one of the adapters making this a little less likely to bump your connection. Just a thought.
I just hate this, before I never had to worry about my storage, microSD was life saver for me but now I'm constantly compressing my files, deleting music and movies because I have no place to put my stuff and those adapters just make things much more difficult. I just want to put the microSD into my phone once and never worry about it anymore. This is just silly from Samsung and one way to earn more money with the other models with higher capacities.

Someone needs to make a case that plugs into the usbc port permanently and allows for sd cards to then be added as part of the design. But frankly not having sd card support on the phone itself is abhorrent. Mobile games are getting enormous and phones now shoot in 4k video and you give us 128gb lmao.
The worse part of this, there IS a company that makes sd add on cases... but NOT for the s21 ultra. Look up "i-blades case" They came a case for iphones ( of course ) and Pixel phones, other sammy phones, but they claim there was not enough people asking for s21 ultra to warrant a case release.
I ended up getting a samsung t7 drive when it was on sale and a very small usb cord. Then velcro'd the sucker to back of my case.

S21 Ultra should've been 256 base storage. PERIOD. Samsung needs to bring back the SD card. 128gb isn't enough for flagship phones with 108MP.

I agree with other commenters; a definite deal-breaker not having expandable storage. I'm about to get a new phone, and give me old-ish S-10+ to my wife. I almost didn't believe the info about the lack of this basic feature, apparently in the interests of speed. My current phone is still as fast as the day I got it, and really don't see why everything has to be lightning quick. Sometimes that 1/8th second lag saved me from doing something I would have regretted. I'll have to give the S-20 line a closer look...
I have three old Galaxy S6 active because I love that phone and really did not want to change. However they get slower and slower and slower so you eventually have to upgrade to a new phone(after all I went through three of them because of storage so they are from mini moons ago, lol).
With that set, the Galaxy S6 active also did not have expandable SD storage. This video that we just watched tells you exactly what you need to get which is less than $15 total and I have to say it's so worth it. The speed on this phone will blow your mind.
The main reason I didn't want to leave my Galaxy S6 active was because of the camera however the S21 ultra has a camera that will meet my expectations and even get you wet a little. 😂
The fact that you can expand your storage like he showed in this video means that there's an option and I would recommend this phone to anyone. The speed, all of the bells and whistles, it really is a damn good phone.

Thing is it doesn't have an in display fingerprint reader, has less features overall and costs £20 more a month on contract.

What a fucking joke. I'm taking my S10 to an independent repair place and just having a new USBC port soldered on as that's the only thing wrong with it.
This is why I do my research and never went for it even back in Jan, I knew S22 was coming, and it looks even better. The first time I buy a phone when it comes out, and high-end one.

While this vid is nice and helpful, Samsung's removal of the microsd card slot is bonkers. Returned the s21 ultra and got the s20 ultra instead.

hey, they try to make you buy a new phone later they don't want you to take this and then never buy a new phone, they want you to buy thier next phone to change the storage but honestly it's just annoying. they could have added a micro SD slot
They make really small USB hard drives that's a lot smaller than this one that you can plug into power port on your phone and pc and you don't need a SD card.

Nice video. The fact Samsung doesn't let you use a micro-sd card internally like with other smartphones even older Samsung models is stupid. If your gonna have to spend 1k+ on a High-End Smart phone it better be able to do anything and everything to give you the best value for your money. Those two adapters do add bulk to the phone. If the ports were to be on the top - where they should be so the functionally of the phone would be at it's best then using the adapters shown here wouldn't be as a big deal.
That was a deal breaker for me. The space/sd card slot is the biggest issue. I got note 20.

Someone should just make a phone case, that allows you to add storage, I think it would be kind of neat, would put your phone into it's phone case and be able to put in up to I don't know eight MicroSD cards, so you could possibly have 8 terabytes of space I guess the case would also have to have on board raid capabilities or something I don't know I'm not too knowledgeable on that stuff
Glad I ran across this video. I’m going to try this with my Audible books. I currently use my iPod but I’ve had it for several years and now some books won’t play because my iPod can’t download the latest Audible version for iOS. I can’t find a MP3 player that compatible with Audible either and I just can’t afford to spend upwards of $300 again. That’s the one thing I hate about Apple. After a few years their devices are junk…even if they’re not “broken.”

So initially, it was a deal breaker for me to not have expandable storage, but then it hit me that all I need is a USB-C flash drive that attaches to my Keychain, and I always have them with me anyways. It's quite convenient to pop it in and move things over.
It, also, wears your charging port out quicker.
Literally just buy an SD reader that has a USB C on the end.

thank you for this vid! literally got an s21 ultra on contract today having not seen anything about the lack of sd card slot (im sure theres plenty of info out there but i just hadnt seen anything which im a little surprised about as i do think its a shame its gone and im sure lots of other people do too). found out by accident almost and was a little annoyed this hadnt come up when i mentioned i wasnt overly bothered i could only get the 128gb version earlier in the day. i had a note 10+ so thankfully have this little adapter so can use that for shifting stuff onto a micro sd. great help, great work around and yeah shouldnt have to do this but 'progress' right?

You can unlock your developer options on your phone and then you will have the ability to force allow any app to be transfered to external storage. Super easy to do.
Just go buy a Xiaomi or a Lenovo Legion Duel 2 or something that can add a sd card.. I was close to thinking of a S20 or 21 by watching this made me realise what a fook up samsung has made here

I do not really play games in my phone. But I feel like an SD card would help compress all of my files in my phone. Since I am getting a galaxy s21 ultra 5g, I will definitely need an SD card despite the phone lacking the feature.
You can also use the G-USB cord and plug it into your desktop or laptop, to download videos, photos and other files that are not needed on the go.

Android Doctor.....thank you for this and your many useful videos. I have s21 Ultra and purchased the 256gb but since the new Android 12 update, I've had a lot of issues. Some have been fixed with a couple patch updates........my main question is System Storage.....it says I have used up 6.9 of 6.9....99% full. I have wiped cache partition and used some clean up apps. Is there a way to free up my System Storage without causing issues? Keyboard freezes or lagging is my main issue now. Thanks.

I have a better solution. Buy a phone with a proper micro sd card expansion slot, like the Xperia series, and save all these hassles. And if you do get the Xperia, you get snapdragon in exynos region, and gain the headphone jack for use with iems.
Isn't it the same, to use directly a USB-C stick ,without a SD Card adapter (easy & small at your bunch of keys)?

You need to create a phone case with some sort of sd slot connected with a way to charge the phone as well.

Yes
There is a easier way. They make really small USB type C hard drives that will plug into your phone. It also has a regular USB plug so you can use on you PC as well.
@Android Doctor question I just got this s21+ I cannot get any files to play or copy from my USB, the s21 can send a MP3 to the USB stick then won't play it or let me copy the file back to the phone. Am I missing some stupid setting somewhere??

You don't use your phone past normie usage then. I have a 1tb micro sd and 512 gb on my note 10+. So im considering this, even though it isn't aesthetically pleasing. And if you happen to lose that micro sd card or like me planning on storing your thousands of mp3 files on it to listen to you'd have to be really careful that it doesnt get unplugged and fall out.

I got an sd/microsd to usb-c adapter for this purpose, and instead of reading it as storage, the phone says it's charging another device. No idea what's going on or how to fix it.

at this point just get a removeable usb drive. Samsung took a major L on this one. How expensive can it be to add Microsd slot. oh yeah you wanted to force your customers into over priced onboard storage so you did that by making removeable not possible. shame.
They used to make cases with an sd card slot for iphones, but they stopped making them. I think they should start making them again.

Question: I'll be using this method to move files over to an SD Card. Previously, I had an issue with doing this on my Galaxy 8 Plus. I'd move apps over to the SD card using this method; however, when I checked my apps later, many of them had moved back to the Internal Storage of their own accord. Any thoughts on this issue? Thank you for all your help! It's much appreciated!

A so-called "flagship" phone should have MORE features not less. Linux phones can't arrive fast enough to offer serious users something better than these fashion appliances for thots. I was able to add more storage to my Samsung Galaxy S7 by placing the micro SD card in the same slot next to the SIM card. Don't tell me that it won't be possible to do that in the latest Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G and that I will need to get a device to attach to my phone and then install the Micro SD card. There was no need for me to do that with my Samsung Galaxy S7 that I purchased back in 2016. It doesn't make sense if Samsung manufactured a phone 5 years later with no slot to place a Micro SD card.

Did you misspeak? You said that you got a Micro SD Card reader. With an SD card reader you won't be able to take advantage of the storage on the SD card, except to load it onto you phone. Is that why you don't actually transfer anything to the card? I mean, even just some photos would be proof of concept. Last time I went looking for USB to SD adapter, there was nothing that wrote to the SD Card, only readers.
What to do if you want to listen to music with wired headphones or charge the phone
Just use bluetooth head phones they cheap now a days or u even usually get a free pair when u pre order your galaxy device
