The drummer actually learned every song that they did on the plane... by ear!
bruh what... I remember getting a recommendation of Larnell playing Sandman by ear from 1 time listen.
as a style and emsembel this is not really my kinda thing but i stuck with it..
and very very glad i did.. incredible playing.. the bass and drummer wow..
How is this the first video on your channel but the quality is so high?! Your editing is like you're a battle-hardened CZcamsr, great stuff! Oh, and not the least your first video being Lingus, which couldn't be a more perfect pick. Liked and subbed!
Nice reaction man! You should react to more of the recordings from these sessions, preferably Shofukan, Outlier, and What about me. They all have stank to spread! The new single Trinity from their upcoming album is also bonkers.
Aww hell yeah! I'mma binge all of them, got all the stank waiting. Thanks for the recommends!
Great reaction! Looking forward to more of it! Cheers!
Dude you’re great, can’t believe you don’t have more subs! I watched the video assuming you were like a 150k+ reactor since your stuff is so entertaining and quality. Keep up the great stuff! Love the authenticity and passion and humor
Oh man... you made my week! Im sure one day we'll get there :D Id love to hear one of your favorite tracks to listen to. :o
How can you call yourself a jazz pianist and not heard Lingus xDDD
This should be a mandatory listen for jazz musicians!:D
I knoow right!? I feel like i havent lived untill now :D my life is lie :d
@@imstankface Haha, the important thing is that you've now experienced this:D
i play jazz piano as well and never heard this until last week! it's so good
Because this isn't jazz. This is fusion and jazz pianists listen to Oscar Peterson, Thelonious Monk, Art Tatum, Duke Elington, McCoy Tyner, Bill Evans, etc, you know some of the best JAZZ pianists of the 20th century. And evenin Jazz fusion Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea are the biggest references in the genre.
If your hungry for more high energy Cory, you GOTTA listen to Cory Henry and the Funk Apostles "Love is on the way" (Live in LA)
We seem to have the same taste in Jazz/fusion/funk styles of music , so I'm pretty sure your gonna go STANK with it!!
Oohh the "FUnk Apostles" sounds funky... IM ON IT! :D Im sure its gonna be dope!
You should listen to another ball buster of a tune recorded later that year. A love song in 14/4 featuring the talents of Jacob Collier and New Orleans souzaphonist Big Ed Lee called “Don’t You Know” from SP’s ‘Family Dinner Pt 2’ album.
Nice voice work in your intro dude - you should do voice acting. Dope song and reaction too.
Subbed
Thanks for being so awesome bro! I've thought a lot about voice acting. I did like aa "Venom Plays a Horror Game" type of video on my gaming channel :D maybe its a step in the right direction.
If you enjoyed snarky puppy, I would highly recommend Thank You Scientist. Awesome jazz/prog/rock band!
Hell yeah mah man! I enjoy me some fusion bands. I've added it to the list!
@@imstankface FXMLDR feat Blue Coats is one of their most impressive live recordings.
So fabulous!!! Takes me back to Return to Forever with Chick Correa!
A lot of insipiration from Chick, including sounds, lines and harmony.
I think there’s only two notes going in the pulse during the solo so my dude was like “fuck a key”
magical
ive watched this at least 30 times and i still can't quite figure out what the hell the Drummer is doing :D
I'd swear lingus has to be a word from some lost language that means stank face because my face is always so sore after listening to this song.
Come on. Have you never listened to this as a jazz pianist before?
I've only heard this once and it was literally before I started studying jazz piano at the academy which was about 9 years ago :D, and my understanding of music was still level 1. I just remembered hearing it, so figured I should start with that. Little did I know I would actually feel the music more now and would get hooked on this s**t :D
If you didn't know, Larnell Lewis the drummer was not originally supposed to be there with them on any of these songs. The other drummer got sick so Michael called Larnell at the last minute and dude hopped a plane from the US on like a 7 hour flight. He literally learned all the songs while on the plane then showed up and did his thing. Mind blowing.
That sounds.... WHAT!? Maan Larnell is a musical giant... insane.
@@imstankface Yeah, its nuts lol. There's a video somewhere on youtube where some of the members talk about that story.
He learned most of the songs, he knew two of them from playing them with Snarky Puppy before. This track and what about me he'd played before. Still, incredible job from him coming in to pinch hit at the last minute.
I believe this is the video you are talking about. czcams.com/video/EvxN7wCjSis/video.html The whole documentary is also worth a watch!
@@GloriaKimbwala ... I've seen the whole documentary and it's excellent.
