    Hi everyone.
Just doing a follow up vid to answer questions concerning the Byrna HD self-defense c02 launcher.
Earlier in the video, I called the kinetic rounds, steel plastic balls.
These rounds are not steel, I meant to say kinetic hard plastic balls. Sorry for any confusion. Lol
These rounds are very powerful! This is not, I repeat, NOT A TOY!
If used irresponsible, you could definitely put an eye out or worse.
    Thanks for watching.

May I ask....there is a growing dialog on the web that pepper balls fired from the Byrna will not burst when the attacker is wearing a few layers of clothes or even a light jacket. Could you perform a test of that scenario, please? ...or perhaps your videos already include such a test? 🙂

The pepper rounds burst more reliably when striking a harder
surface. If an assailant has layers of clothing on, there is a possibility
that the rounds won't burst. It's just a possibility.

What I like about Byrna is that they sell all their own cartridges, ammo etc which is quality. In South Africa I have a TippmannTipx but I must buy third party ammo, cartridges etc...so one is not guaranteed the quality. And have to shop around for stock. At least with Byrna there is a one stop shop for all your name branded byrna ammo and cartridges...I hope byrna stays in business forever...LOL

You were shooting the pepper balls against a steel plate, and as you said, other videos show a wooden board. Realistically, you have neither in a self-defense situation. The assailant is clothed and even possibly more so in cooler months. How well do these work against a clothed intruder is what i would be interested in. Since this is based off a paint ball style delivery system, and motorcycle/dirt bike chest protectors are used to ensure a paint ball breaks, i think these pepper balls will face the same thing...unreliable breakage against cloth. Your thoughts on this?

    • @derick_401
      @derick_401 Před 10 měsíci

You don’t even need to hit the target you can break them on the ground or any backdrop that is behind them. The expansion is enough to deliver the chemical even without a direct hit. What I carry is a Byrna in a small carry bag with an open back pouch that I can just reach into and pull it out if needed but along with that I have a retractable baton attached to the bag and a large canister of pepper spray inside the side pocket of the bag. Walking around it looks like I’m carrying a small backpack everything is concealed but accessible within one second. Also I carry a large fixed blade on my belt not so much for self defense more as a tool but if all else fails I can fall back on that. I’d prefer to deter and evade a bad situation than to end a life. I’m a good size dude and I’m pretty confident that in a bad situation these less lethal tools with be enough to give me the opportunity to get away without causing death and having to deal with the moral/legal consequences that come along with that. I’d rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it! If someone pulls a gun on me anything I’ve got on me is not worth me losing my life over if they’re that determined then they can have it. That’s just my opinion everyone else’s may vary, I’m too old for the drama and definitely too old to be fighting and rolling around on the ground with someone. I carry like $50 on me like I said if they are that determined they can have it I work for my living money comes and goes.

Great video, thanks. With your self defence background, what is your view in terms of it looking like a firearm, as opposed to getting it in an orange or another colour. My take is that if you are seriously using it in self defence, you would prefer the attacker to think it is indeed a firearm. Interested in your thoughts.

    • @redzone1019
      @redzone1019  Před 4 lety +5

      Thanks.
      Appreciate the thumbs up.
Unless I was working in an area, where I wanted people to know that my Byrna HD was a non-lethal self-defence device...
Yes, orange, yellow, green etc. Even pink if that float some peoples boat. Lol.
But for me, I would prefer someone (criminal/bad guy) to think that I had an actual firearm.
The black Byrna HD has the look of a real firearm. At first glance, It reminds me of a Hi Point C9 9mm semiauto pistol.
It doesn't look like a toy. That alone could be enough to deter an attacker.
      Criminals don't want a level/fair playing field.
Criminals want to always have the upper hand. If (most) criminals see that you have the ability and willingness to
fight back... Most will disengage and try to find a easier target. Criminals, like the most people just wanted to go home at the end of the day.
Not saying most people are criminals. Lol. Just that criminals don't want to take an unnecessary chance of getting hurt.
The black Byrna HD has a serious intimidating look. In my opinion, if this was pointed at a potentially threat,
they might think that it is a real firearm and disengage.
And if they don't disengage and continue to advance. A few well placed shots with this launcher could potentially
deter a would be attacker. I know I wouldn't want to get hit with it. Pepper or kinetic.
That said, we purchased the black colored Byrna HDs because they look more intimatidating.
They look like real firearms from a distance or low lighting.
Hopefully we'll never have to use them in a self-defense situation.
But if we do, I feel sorry for the other person on the other end of this launcher.
      (Not too much) LOL.
      Thanks for watching.

Because of the back log of orders I haven't been able to get replacement CO2 cartridges. So I ordered some from a company called Leland Gas Technologies. These particular cartridges are used for seltzer chargers but they are the same size as the Byrna. They seem more powerful than the Byrna, and at the writing of this review, I'm on my fifth day (of one) and having shot 4 full magazines through it, it is still operating at what appears to be full strength. The cartridges are slightly (1/32") longer than the Byrna but you just don't tighten it as much. Obviously you still want to use the Byrna "oiler" every 10 cartridges, so you still need to buy those from them.
The Leland are less expensive than the Byrnas, but that was not the reason I bought them. It was because it is a 10.5 week "wait" after you order anything from Byrna that you get it. When the the back log at Byrna settles down, I will again buy my ammo and CO2's from them - but in the meantime these things work great.

If you pull the trigger with the safety on, it will punching co2 causing the gas to charge up with more power. first shot will be 250 to 275 FPS. If you pull the trigger with safety off and fire same time to puncture Co2 it will be 180 to 220 FPS. I prefer to puncture co2 first then safety off then fire.

That's good to know. If I was to ever have to use this in a self-defense scenario, that's the way I'd go also.
More power is normally good thing.
That said, in a (time is of the essence) self-defense encounter, I'd have no problem firing the first shot with
the safety off. Yes it's a lower velocity, but a direct hit to center mass or head/face shot could give you time to make
follow up shots at full velocity.

      Great minds think alike. Lol.
      That's not a bad idea.
My ideology was to first cause shock, trauma.
It's amazing the results pain can cause on the body. These solid projectiles when struck, cause pain!
That said, the pepper balls are worse. Pain and an inability to breathe or see.
Most self-defense encounters occur within room distances. 8,10, maybe 15 ft.
Anybody can miss at those distances under stress, I'm pretty proficient with a firearm within room distance.
I practice a lot. Lol. And unlike a firearm, there is virtually no recoil! So follow up shots are a breeze.
That said, first two, three shots are to cause major pain (in a self-defense scenario). Most people don't do well under pain.
If my attacker decides to keep coming... Pepper ball, pepper ball, pepper ball!
From the video I've seen, no one is going to be in any shape, any time soon to continue to fight/attack after a few of these.
I've been into firearms/self-defense for over 30 years and I've been waiting for something like this to hit the market!
Effective and for the most part, non lethal. Don't get me wrong, this is not a toy!
So it can potentially cause serious harm or worse.
      So use discretion.
      Take it easy bro.

    Im highly considering buying this.
And the way you have it set up is great...start with the pepperballs and then follow with straight projectiles.
The only hesitation I have in buying this is because of the wait time.
They are saying a MINIMUM of 10 weeks...
    But a great video.
I'm wondering...do the pepper balls hit with the same amount of force as the regular projectiles do?
I've seen some videos of the regular plastic balls hitting people, and it appears that its equivalent to getting punched pretty hard in the face.
Do the pepper balls hit with the same force and effect?

      Hello
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner.
This isn't going to be very scientific, but I personally think that the kinetic balls ( hard plastic)
hit harder than the pepper balls. When I strike the target with the hard plastic balls the sound is louder
and seem to move the sheet metal targets more. This is just my opinion. The other reason I believe that this is true is,
the pepper balls burst upon impact, losing some of the mass/kinetic energy. Don't get me wrong, they still hurt, but not
as much as the hard plastic balls.
The hard plastic balls (kinetic balls)
don't burst or come apart upon impact. So you are not losing any mass/Kinetic energy upon impact.
Again, this is only my opinion.
      Hopefully this was helpful.
      Thanks for watching.
      Stay safe and healthy.
      Peace

Actually, Bob (the box) was carrying a mini 14!
He was a big A-team fan. Lol.
Seriously though, this is a good substitute for those areas that prohibit carrying a traditional firearm.
I prefer carrying a firearm for self-defense, but this is a great alternative when you can't carry a firearm.
I'd prefer this over a canister of pepper spray any day of the week! In self-defense looks (as well as reliability)
count. And this looks a lot more intimidating than a canister of pepper spray. And hurts like the dickens too! Lol.

    Jesus Christ saves from sin.
    Romans 3: 23
    For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
    Hebrews 9: 27
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
    Isaiah 64: 6
But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
    Revelation 21: 8
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
    Romans 5: 8
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
    John 3: 16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
    John 14: 6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
    Romans 10: 9-10.
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
    Jesus said John 5: 24
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
    1John 5: 10-13
He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.
And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
    Ephesians 2: 8-9
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.
    Romans 8: 1
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
    1 Corinthians 15: 3-4
    For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
    2 Corinthians 5: 21
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

      Fun you should ask that.
I just did a video yesterday showing a mag dump.
Not as fast as a firearm, but acceptable for its intended purpose.
Type in "Redzone101 Byrna HD launcher self-defense mag dump".

    • @redzone1019
      @redzone1019  Před 4 lety +2

      That's a good question.
The first shot hit pretty hard!
Not sure if it hit as hard as the first, but by the way the first shot hit the plastic container,
I'm betting it would go straight through the cardboard box just the same. In my experience,
the first shot out of a fresh c02 is normally the most powerful. Not always though.
Bottom line, I would not want to get hit with the first, second, third etc, shot from this c02 self-defense launcher!
I still have the mark from a high powered bb gun that grazed my arm when I was a kid. (That's another story). Lol.
These projectiles are as big a marbles! They will leave a mark!
Back to your original question. I'll try shooting through cardboard boxes, with the first shot on
      my next vid.
      Thanks for watching.

      I'm in the "D".
Detroit. East side. In the Redzone.
48205. One of the most dangerous zip codes in Michigan.
I've learned a thing or two about self-defense, because growing up here (if you beat the statistics)
is challenging to say the least. It's almost like the wild, wild west at times.
But I've man to carve out a little place for the wife and me. There are very few houses or families left
on my block. It's almost like living in the country. Right in the middle of the city. Lol
I've got rabbits, raccoons, possums and from time to time. Deer!
That said, I love my Byrna!
This gives me a less lethal option for self-defense.
