We're enjoying holiday nd I am being antosocial taking some time to paint. We're in the country and I paint landscapes. It feels uncomfortable as I am used to paint cityscapes. But I found an amazing spot in a meadow where I see a castle (Beusdael) in the distance. I have to work hard to capture the trees.
When it starts to rain I work on a portrait of my daughter.

Titus, a second talent is emerging after this lovely video: your continuing development in the art of filmmaking! Your merging of content and technique, as in your paintings, is masterful!!

Thank you for sharing with us your family time, you have beautiful children. The blond little boy looks exactly like you. Could be hard to balance being an artist with 3 young children. I couldn't do it until my kids got older. And your kids look to be interested in your art, they look like very nice children.

Exiting to see your beautiful children and so good of your daughter to sit still and model. Artists can never take a vacation... and why should they?... painting for me is the best holiday. It shows that being a painter is not what we do , its what we are! Hope you had a great time.

Children speak the truth and your daughter did when she said Ya. Precious. Thank you for sharing with all of us. 🤗

So good to paint outdoors. Is there a heat advisory there as few close European countries are sweltering in the heat.
So nice to have your kids with you, these memories will be with them forever.
By the way, they sure look like you😉
Best wishes to you and your family. 🇳🇱

Titus, I'm not a painter. However, I've received so many valuable life lessons about working, paitence, style, discouragement, expectaion, when or when not something is finished, and so many others. I don't have to tell you this, but the subjects you touch upon are revevant to any creative human endeavor. Thank you for posting these.

Thanks for sharing such a beautiful day in the country with your family. It's much to hot where I live to do much outside at this time of year (yet another day over 100F/38C). I wish I had your talent - I have two beautiful granddaughters that I have drawn many times with fair results, but painting them seems just out of my reach. I loved watching you paint your daughter.

The tea kettle warmer is a perfect way to think outside the box. Very sweet. I used to try to get a good painting from my son who was so active, aren’t they all, and found that to render his portrait the most accurate and quickly that I had to grab pencil or a little colored graphite. A day goes by and they change completely. It is such a joy to have children. There are no pitter patter little feet noises anymore but I still hear them from long ago.😊Enjoy your plein aire time. I even like finding an old winding twisted tree with lots of shadows and loads of textures. Take care😊

18:39, wonderful work, I think you should have stopped there. Not to criticize, but I think sometimes too many layers take away from the freshness that the watercolor shines with.
On the other hand its great to see you not being scared... When doing portraits I am always terrified of the next step, and often overthink it...

This was a lovely video and I especially noticed your son’s rapt attention to what you were painting and did I hear him asking you questions? I don’t have the benefit of understanding the language but the children are so charming and “low key” like their Papa. The portrait is so sweet and a memory of a time to cherish. Thank you.

Well, Titus, I feel partially responsible for any vacation interruption LOL. I think that Oliver Pyke has a really good approach to painting trees, especially at a distance. I’ve watched his videos a lot to see how he captures the mood seen in how light and shadows of distant trees interact. He treats them like clouds in the sky which gives a wonderful softness to his watercolor. It's helped me think a lot differently about how different objects appear in our minds, especially when thinking about Joseph Zbukvic's attitude that "there are two main shapes - the sky and the ground", and all of the interactions between.

      @TitusMeeuws  Před rokem +1

Thoroughly enjoyed watching you with your family who are very good for you to spend so much vacation time painting 😉. But I do understand what you say, even as an amateur, I'm always looking for subjects to paint. To not do this would be like not breathing. Can you please tell me what it is that you used to draw your daughter ?

    Hi Titus
    Back with another thought:
When you're searching fot that elusive "fascinating thing", do you just know it when you see it with trial and error. or is there such a thing as a formula like the golden rectangle - or is it a mean of both?

The more alienated from his life one is, the more vacation he needs. Furthermore the word "vacation" is dependent to the word "work", which is a political framing of a certain sort of free slavery. I'm pretty happy to be a freelancer like you because we feel reality every day - not really doing work and not really having vacation.
Some years ago I cancelled the word "work" from my vocabulary and speak of "meaningful activity". Vacation has no meaning to me either any more.

    • @MarkNiceyard

@@TitusMeeuws Your whole video was really quite funny for me because in June I was on "vacation" with my family and a friend of mine for 8 days for the first time in 3 years and I did 5 water colour paintings there. So I can relate what you say. But I'm a lot older than you (53) and I went through all those thoughts 10 to 20 years ago. It's absolutely normal to me not to stop doing the things that define me. I got away from the consumerism standards that my parents, school, society and mainstream media cemented into my brain. It was a bit of a journey to free myself from it and I'm still working on it.
