Never seen Roger miss these many overheads in a single match and lose these many net exchanges. 2013 was truly a nightmare, physically and level wise!

Super-wristy forehands with not too much core rotation (because of the back pain) and non-existent backhand. Low-percentage first serves. Dismal season 2013 really was.

Never seen Federer seemingly so unbothered that he was losing (in a grand slam match)

I remember this match clearly... to me it was the sign that Federer would never win the French Open again. I didn't expect him to play as well as he did in 2019 though. Great video my man!

An upset is a shock. Credit to Tsonga though because on any given day he can outplay anyone. Roland Garros is his homecourt and that played out really well for him. Federer wasn't feeling it at all. But this here is an example why Roger is loved by his fellow tennis players and fans alike. There is no drama, no excuses. He knows when to give the opponent his time in the sun. Wivo thanks for this video. Truly shows how two athletes can be good sportsmen.

He wasn't ill but clearly his movement was so much slower and his back did not look good. He tried to keep the back straight while hitting overhead.

@@tomsd8656 You're so right. Roger tried to keep the pain & discomfort from showing but something was clearly off with him. He never gave excuses.

@WivoRN Productions. Retirement is near for Rafa, and your end credits make me even more emotional 😢
Tennis won't be the same when the greatest fighter retires 😢

Aims right at The Maestro, hits him square from close up: NO DRAMA. Doesnt care did he/didnt he apologise.
    Unlike some Queens.

it was a chicken and egg thing. without good health you are not going to play well. playing not well and you are not going to win. what is so complicated about it. i think he recognize that and rationalize it. when his body heal, he started winning again.

In my mind tsonga won the french open 2013 men i hate ferrer for that semis tsonga would have beaten nadal in this final

If he cannot handle the small Ferrer than so cant he handle Nadal

Ferrer was the gatekeeper of those years. If you can't surpass the gatekeeper, you're not beating Nadal. Ferrer was good enough to beat everyone besides those top four consistently. Similar to davydenko, could be everyone else, but couldn't consistently beat those 4 top dudes.

Sweet revenge for Tsonga because he lost in 5 sets against Federer just about 3 months before this match at the 2013 Australian Open quarterfinals.
