    Sarah you are the best of the best. Jim 80 years old and helping you & your sister, plus passing on valuable knowledge. In return, letting him park his trailer at your compound. In my books you girls have just won the Nobel award. It is totally shameful how Vets are treated. Hopefully, you might have rich people watching your videos and maybe with a little luck one of them might buy a brand new SUV for Jim. That would be the icing on the cake. I will keep my fingers crossed. You should have your own TV show.

    I picked up a guy the other day and the guy said Thankyou but wasn't I worried about him being a serial killer , i just laughed and said what are the chances of two serial killers being in the same vehicle at the same time ?

      Oh wow I literally just had that conversation in all seriousness with my husband recently. An older man dressed like the Gordon's fisherman was walking the wrong way on the freeway desperately waving for help with a gas can. We turned around at the next exit to help him and beeped/waved to let him know we were coming. We went and got him some gas and upon our return he was gone. We thought well he must have got picked up. Then we thought about the weird circumstance of him walking the wrong direction and no vehicles broken down anywhere in sight for 10 miles past where he was. And we thought we might have dodged a serial killer bullet. Then we mused over the thought of another serial killer picking him up. And what are the chances of that. Of course that led to a hilarious scenario of a serial killer stand off in the car, whereby they eventually become friends, trading techniques etc. All the while both knowing they are trying to kill each other eventually.
      And there's our little sick sense of humor story hope it entertains someone

    Donated. Regarding Jim's knee, the distance to the VA, and the VA doctor who's likely incentivized not to treat Jim . . . "Veterans that live outside 40 miles of a VA facility or who cannot see a VA doctor within 30 days are currently allowed to use the VA Choice program to see a private doctor close to their home." It's called the CARE program.

      @georgespalding7640 Před 2 lety +21

      The CARE program still can only do so much for Jim in remote areas as this. He could get a local doctor in Pahrump but for major procedures he still will have to come to the Las Vegas VA Hospital which is one of the most modern in the US. Pahrump only has limited medical facilities and is the only city close to him besides Vegas. I know all about CARE being a Vet here in SoCal. And your comment about the doctor not wanting to help Jim is not useful. The VA here in SoCal treats me very well and just built a $100 Million facility in Redlands for the Vets 5 years ago.

    • @Freempg
      @Freempg Před 2 lety +12

      @@georgespalding7640 Agreed, but he can get a second opinion, and likely one that will differ considerably from the one he got from the disinterested VA doctor.

      @@Freempg it happens, I just try to keep going till I get the help I can get. Dr.s are just regular people to.
      If they get very busy. Just have to wait or go somewhere else. If he's 80 year's old, shouldn't he have Medicare and Medicaid? That makes a difference in getting more options. Anyway, I always send prayers and love to all veterans and seniors. Hopefully he will be getting help soon. I thank Sarah and her sister for helping him. That's amazing awesome friend.💞

      The VFW and American Legion is a helpful resource for dealing with the VA, as an advocate. You, likely won't achieve it by yourself
      Additionally, using Medicare is appropriate, when I don't get adequate care from the VA, even as a hundred percent total and permanent disabled veteran. I wish him well! Best of thoughts

  • @bgpwrddy
    @bgpwrddy Před 2 lety +53

    Unfortunately our elderly are considered worthless and not worth repairing, after a certain age your doctor will recommend not doing anything to alleviate certain conditions and just allow you to suffer, or just offering pain medication. We always have enough money to go to war and kill people, but never enough to have Peace and care for the poor. Amazing...

      My wife is to be 95 next month on the winter solstice. She is mostly deaf and has advanced Alzheimer's. The latter prevents her from understanding why she is required to wear the stupid, suffociating Inslee (naned after our dictatorial leftist/fascist state governor) mask. For that cause she just will not keep it on. That in turn has inspired her Mediscare doctor and the bureaucracy that he works for deny her her annual Mediscare "wellness check." The doctor's advice a year ago was to submit her to hospice. I know of a woman in Pennsylvania who outlived her welcome in a hospice custodial institution, and guess what happened to her. i suspect that the bureaucrats there have their own name for it, but I would call it "Murder One."

I could put a tent next to it and they would be happy. I think so many people are actually having to live in their vehicles that it’s freaking out the bases. I now call before I go to any base to find out their rules.

    As a fellow desert dweller I will say this. Good luck with the dust. You can tell you're freshly moved in ( no dust) also it looks like you may already have gravel somewhat in your yard but I highly recommend more for two reasons. One is it helps keep the dust down and two it keeps the mud from being tracked in when it rains. Just a suggestion.

I've pulled over to help people on the road and you can tell they more afraid then they are appreciative that someone stopped. Kind of sad to think that this the same country I grew up in where you could stick out your thumb when things didn't go well with your car and folks would stop to help or give you a lift. Also Jim should request a referral from his VA doctor/nurse to be seen by a private knee doctor through the VA's Office of Community Care. Several years ago I was driving somewhere SW of Lubbock and passed a man wearing work clothes and crrying a convenience store bag walking fast along the road on a vast open stretch of highway many miles from town. I did not stop and offer him a ride. I still feel guilty about it to this day

    There are a lot of vets like Jim. I am lucky being in Phoenix, with a large hospital! I have big problems with my back and had several appt. missing work, only to be told they decided to do nothing for me! I was so angry with the system, but no skin off there backs. CARE would be a good option for Jim. God bless you for caring WH!!

    Oh give it time - things will come together eventually. In the mean time, live the life, and love your time in it. You are on a wonderful adventure! I live out in a rural area, like you and I do stop to help anyone needing it, but in a city I'm not so trusting - different environment there. Perhaps I should work on that - it is just that there are so many people who are destitute. It is overwhelming. Keep old Jim around if you can. It seems he is willing to work for his stay, and he does have a lot of wisdom and knowledge he needs to share. You and your sister are good people - worthy people. .

    My experience with the Las Vegas VA Hospital (VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System) has been very good.
    The hospital is awesome. It opened in 2012 at a cost of $600 million dollars. (The first newly constructed since 1995).
    It's well staffed, clean, organized, bright (lots of windows). There are also four VA clinics located around the greater Las Vegas area. (I'm a 67 year old US Air Force veteran. That hospital and staff have saved my life...twice)

      I’ve been trying to post a comment that wonderhussy should check out the VA website but it won’t post. The website tells all about free transportation for Jimmy to and from VA. Disabled American Veterans is another source. Has anyone posted specific links to the VA?

    Your house is looking very good, I knew you and sis would make it happen. Well it took the VA 25 years to admit my injuries were service related but in the meantime they gave me great service and health care. I'm still waiting on the money part of it but my case was unusual because of what I was doing. I would do it all again if I could, I love this country and my people and If everyone in this country looked after each other we all would be alot happier. Thanks for helping Jim I know he loves being needed I know, when you find yourself alone the worst thing is not being needed that's why I still help my ex, even though she drove me nuts it's good to help someone. There were alot of good suggestions, there are organizations that are willing to help Vet's with vehicle and their very willing to help. 👍👍👍👍👍❤🇺🇸

    Your house looks so much better! People say down size. I say get a bigger house with lots of closets and a kitchen pantry an a full basement. That's what I want an I already have 10 rooms. Can you turn your house into a 2 story? Be able to see sunset and sunrise better. I also help people. It can be scary! I'm not much bigger than you an I don't have a gun handy when I'm on the road. Good luck to Jim. I wish him all the best.

    So so meaningful, and so true, brought tears to my eyes thinking about how society treats ppl especially our elder and vets, thank you for putting this outreach on YT, this need to change, treat EVERYONE with respect and dignity and give everybody a smile and don't judge people, and give a helping hand to ANYONE in need. Super wish I was making it to the east side of Death Valley today but stuck playing on 395.

    I know you're not a religious person, but I'll say the bible did warn of the days mens hearts will grow cold. Sadly we are in those days. I wonder often what has happened to our society when people will video someone needing help rather than helping them. One day those people who passed him by will need a ride somewhere & won't find one & they will have to walk. Sadly not until then will they understand. Going through hardships makes us much more compassionate people is what I've gathered in all my 50 years on this earth. And most people on social media only say they've got your 6, most will never show up in your time of need. Our current society is quite selfish.
    I will go donate to this sweet man helping you & your sis who is willing to teach y'all life skills for free. God bless him & y'all. You'll know them by their fruits & regardless of any of our beliefs, you bear good fruit Wonderhussy. Thank you for sharing this. Perhaps once you're all moved in you can do your own rummage sell & invite your subs to purchase items online & donate your profits to him.

    When I retired from teaching and moved from northern Illinois to Florida 5 years ago, like you, I took everything I owned with me. I have spent the last 5 years getting rid of most of it. My lifestyle changed so much that I no longer needed or wanted those things starting with shoes and clothes. I now live in flip flops and sundresses. It feels so good to have an uncluttered home which is now easy to leave for my adventures. Good luck!

    I'm a veteran, and I'll never go to a VA for medical treatment, especially now. Depending on where you live, it can take weeks to see a specialist. They basically want to rush you in and out, and sign you a prescription to placate you. The doctors there are overworked, yes, but any decent doctor would not make their full time career working at the VA.
