Shannon VanFleet I was just wondering if you'd ever do this type of test on a level 8-11 warm tones. and show how beige toner can save a tragic lightening job.
Shannon VanFleet you'd definitely get views for it. I mean what teen hasn't Googled "get rid of yellow/eggy yellow tones without bleaching again" well nice talking thanks for listening.
As a newly licensed salon assistant your videos are so helpful! I️ love really learning the science behind everything! You explain everything in a way that’s easy to understand, it’s wonderful!
I hope you're making more videos. wow the first to do cool experiments and it's so helpful!!! it's important to know these things!! thanks for sharing!
First time viewer. You are a genius and and a true artist born to do exactly what you’re doing. I needed this today. My hair is naturally a level 6 or 7. I’ve been highlighting it professionally for a few years so now it’s more like a dirty blonde with darker roots to give it more a bayalage look. I wanted to experiment (bad idea) and do a few highlights myself. I used 30 developer with lightener. I also added a opalex like protector. All the products were from Sally’s. Well I was a little scared so I left the bleach on for only 30mins resulting in orange yellowish scariness. I used Wella toner 14 with little to no change. I finally ended up adding a roots touch box color medium brown which did the trick. So long story short I’m back to where I started maybe even darker. What do you think should’ve I left the bleach for 50 minutes? I’m almost tempted to drive from NASHVILLE to see you!
Hi Shannon, I’m a new subscriber! Would you please make a video on your hair color and how you achieved it and the upkeep. I’m around a level 9 highlighted blonde and I use a level 7 shadow root but I absolutely love your hair and would like to learn how to achieve that color. Thank you.
Omg here I am thinking you haven't uploaded and I've missed three videos lol its about time I press that little notification bell I think! PS my hairs naturally a light/medium brown, with some auburn/red in it naturally somehow, and I use a 20 volume developer (I always use a blue bleach powder) and it goes a light/medium golden blonde, 30 volume developer goes a white blonde but like a natural looking white blonde, if that makes sense and 40 volume developer makes my hair goes a white colour that looks really off on me, I don't know why but it reminded me of Syd vicious! Haha
I’m in love with the bloopers at the end ! They add some fun, and also I meant to tell you this when you made this video, I had a best friend of ten years who well done what your never supposed to do your best friend, or a friend for that matter, girlfriend wise, people don’t always get lucky enough to find that in life , you and her are very lucky to have each other, MAYBE YOUR KIDS WILL GROW UP TO GET MARRIED :). Sorry for the ramble, have a good night! Day and week :) haha I bet you’re thinking 💭 obsessed much?
Shannon, I need help from someone that knows the science of color. I had perfect white hair and I maintained my white hair with monthly root touch ups and purple shampoo. Well about a month ago I over toned my hair. I didn't particularly care at the time so I just let my hair be lavender. I'm over the lavender and have been trying to get my white hair back. I tried clarifying shampoo. That did nothing. I just did a bleach bath today and my hair is a mix of grey and green, and my freshly bleached roots are yellow. I'm scared to tone my roots without coloring the rest of my hair. Also my hair is super thin(always has been, that's just my hairs natural texture) so it can't handle a lot of washing or I get fly away's and frizz. Now that you know the mess, how do I clean it up?Is there hope for my hair?
So I have level 7 hair color. Like a light brown. My roots are seriously grown out. What volume of developer do you think I’d need to get it to a blonde? I don’t need it to be perfect since I’ll be putting another color over it. Would I need maybe a 20 or 30?
Question: can a 10 vol be used for gray root coverage? The girl at Sally said no, use a 20 and it’s kind of making no sense to me; if 10 is used for deposit only, why would we need to or want to lift gray, only to go back in and deposit. Why not just 10 and deposit only? I’m so confused on this lol
+fuhgetabouddit the standard for gray coverage is 20! The hair is more resistant, and sometimes the dyes used in gray coverage color lines require higher volumes of hydrogen peroxide to develop them!
Shannon VanFleet thank you, ok now I think it’s sinking in. I assume this would be why semi’s do not work (ever) on my grays either! Thanks again for taking the time to explain why ❤️
fuhgetabouddit I am a hairdresser of 35 years and was using mostly 10 volume on grey, thinking I was just depositing and it was working but most my clients are getting a lot more grey and I recently changed to 20 volume and got much better coverage so I realize that the 20 vol penetrates the grey much better
+Heavenly Monique Rivera Ruiz lol!! I love the all caps 😂 I use 07p and Clear 1:1 from Redken ShadesEq Gloss with equal parts processing solution. And then I maintain it with Pravana’s Nevo mask in Perfect Blonde!
The obvious answer is 12% (40 vol). :D just kidding. I'm kind of bitter about the fact that nobody mentions what vol. Of H2O2 is used in box dyes. I remember using a 1.11, black extra ashy. With god knows what presentage of developer it really was. This was of course before I started studying chemistry for trichology.
hello shannon ... I want to know: how can (my hairdresser) bleach my hair without alaplex or similar with as little damage as possible? I want to give up dyeing because my hair is easily tangled and I also want to have the most healthy hair possible, but in general while my hair grows I want a gray balayage. by the way I'm in love with your colori
Not intended to encourage the use of one over the other, simply clearing up some misconceptions so stylists can make an informed decision on what choice is best for the task at hand! That’s clarified in the description as well. Thanks for watching!
I always watch these so I can be congratulated at the end....
+redspirit17 LOLLLL that’s funny. I think you just won the comment shout out for my next video 😂
Shannon VanFleet Thanks so much Shannon! You always make my day 😊😄
Shannon VanFleet I was just wondering if you'd ever do this type of test on a level 8-11 warm tones. and show how beige toner can save a tragic lightening job.
+redspirit17 that’s a great idea! I think I’ll have to add that one to my list!

The hallway analogy was really helpful. Love how these videos are always so educational for us laypeople!
Haha, I loved that jelly bean explanation xD 👍🏽
+Reed Redline thanks!! I thought it was pretty clever myself 😂
Excellent, great experiment. your lucky to have a close friend for all those years. Thanks for sharing.

you should have done this video with hair colors and their developers on Virgin hair as opposed to lightener, as the title says hair color.

I just found you, and subscribed. You are so informative and sweet. Love watching even though I’m not a hairdresser
:) ❤️
Another great video Shannon, Thank you:)
+Abby TOO SHABBY thank you!!
Love love love your videos! Question what about if you sit under heat? What does that do?
+Lyza714 heat acts as a catalyst to speed up the chemical reaction! It’s rarely recommend and most products advise against it!

According to Redken what is the level on the final 2 swatches after the full bleach time?
So I have level 7 hair color. Like a light brown. My roots are seriously grown out. What volume of developer do you think I’d need to get it to a blonde? I don’t need it to be perfect since I’ll be putting another color over it. Would I need maybe a 20 or 30?

+Heavenly Monique Rivera Ruiz lol!! I love the all caps 😂 I use 07p and Clear 1:1 from Redken ShadesEq Gloss with equal parts processing solution. And then I maintain it with Pravana’s Nevo mask in Perfect Blonde!

And thank you!!
you're very pretty ❤️ I also love the info ❤️
hi shannon what is your hair color? ive been trying to explain my stylists but i dont know the exact words to use or process
The obvious answer is 12% (40 vol). :D just kidding. I'm kind of bitter about the fact that nobody mentions what vol. Of H2O2 is used in box dyes. I remember using a 1.11, black extra ashy. +Time Axl it is definitely frustrating that it’s not always easy to find all of the necessary information!!

+Alexis Aguirre the best way to do it is slow! Only lightening a little bit at a time will create the least amount of damage!
20vol is all that's needed if you want healthy hair. You really should not encourage 40vol is trashes hair. 😊
Not intended to encourage the use of one over the other, simply clearing up some misconceptions so stylists can make an informed decision on what choice is best for the task at hand! That’s clarified in the description as well. Thanks for watching!
Now I want jelly beans lol
+Lyza714 lol!!
