I think the shirt thing was neat. But every time the colors become homogenous, it should trigger the next group to completely randomised shirt colors for all drivers, to give a visual indication of changes
Alternatively, the colors could be based on the neural network, with mutations in the network changing the shirt color of the drivers.

I agree with TimerErTim, any program has to have a purpose. If you tell it to mutate itself without giving it a goal to get towards it will randomly mutate and destroy itself. Maybe add useless shit. Bunch of random lines and numbers. Dots all over the screen. So you have to give such an ai purpose."get better" isn't a purpose. It's a void statement without "at ___".

So Evan hope you'll read this. You can make the evolutioin simulation faster and even more demonstrably (A nice goal to achive for your future videos). Just split a simulation calculation into two threads: one is invisible (no need to render) and wokrs backround uses an all availaible cpu capacity and the other simulates as usual with render BUT it takes a current best specimen from the hidden thread.

I would say you're silly for adding the genetic shirts but that's exactly the sort of useless features I end up adding to my code so I don't blame you mate.
The randomness/mutation factor should have allowed a slow shift in shirt color over time.
when you are stuck on a problem, useless stuff lets you wonder on another thing without leaving wondering away.

I remember when I was coding a game for an exam and had users input a name for score and on every single conceivable name our examiners might use I set the difficulty to impossible.

This is awesome. I think you can even improve it by building a lookahead into this by doing a Fourier transformation of the terrain ahead and use the Fourier coefficients as inputs to your neural network. Thus, it should be able to learn how to do flips at big hills ...

The one of the reasons cars were doing it bad that they dont see all the grass on the screen but only grass towards them
i was thinking of a different solution for not crashing: only update the fittest players, and when one of them dies, start updating the next car. So if you have 100 cars, you only run the 10 best. When there is a tie, for example the first 2 cars have the same fitness, then it should be chosen with the frame count: on odd frames, it is car 1 that is updated, and on even frames, it is car 2. This should be a solution to smoothly see the progress of each player in the late game, and to eliminate the risk of crashing in the early game. Also, to make the training faster, you can cut a generation when the fitness drops by more than a certain threshold (constant or dependent of the dead player's fitness), to speed up the training, and exclude the bad players instantly. This method has a risk component to it though: some players that might be good but don't progress quickly can be eliminated, so this threshold has to be adjusted to get the best results. Also, i think the fitness function should encourage both distance and speed.

Id love to see some AI learning with Tank Trouble. There could be 3 teams of learning AI with the goal of surviving the longest. I imagine one team might get super kill hungry, whereas another might try to avoid other tanks when possible.
