If i recall it correctly, some "pros" got alpha of this game in spring, when some got only WHEN THEY GET TO THE TOURNAMENT, by the time it was like 50 heroes and 70% of original items, all of them was like beta testers for the game. I saw some interviews that the game is not good.

That's bcos they WERE bots, not legitimately, but a lot of then ddin't know how specific items worked and didn't understand the game well enough. Dendi mentioned it in one if his videos. People were buying bkb first item after treads back then, shit was wild.

People are going to comment things like “the level got better” and stuff, which are true to some degree, but if you watched a lot of WC3 DotA, that doesn’t check out. The players are much better than this.
The reason why this tournament is so screwed up is that DotA 2 was still basically an alpha build. The game would lag like crazy at random, disconnects were very common, and there were issues with casting spells/using items as a result. The hero roster was only a fraction the size of what it is today, and there were basically no stuns. With the old health pools(feels weird to call them that) the strategy was throw disable + juke but with so few reliable disables this wasn’t even possible.
Some of the teams got DotA 2 to practice on 1-2 weeks earlier than others, some of the chinese teams didn’t really practice drafting/playing on DotA 2 until the event or didn’t get access till then for various reasons.
This wasn’t a ‘real’ TI in the sense of TI2 and onwards, where everyone was ready for it. At the same time, the teams that performed well should be respected for being able to play insanely well under impossible conditions, which we haven’t seen since.

@@jasonenrage3997All the items weren’t in the game at that time either, so there was very little to buy. Vanguard was good because it had few alternatives for instance.
Treads -> BKB is kind of a weird example as that would still have been a pretty good build on certain cores until the end of Source 1 but I get what you mean, people were buying BKB on almost every hero because it could disable the few stuns implemented, and also wasn’t hard to micro(which was insanely hard in this build of DotA 2 due to how unfinished and extremely laggy it was).
I think pretty much right after this the game started to normalize though with people actually building good items and being able to practice consistently, and Valve largely fixing the micro/lag.

@@Reaching8 they're better than this indeed, but WC3 pro's are still very funny to observe nowadays, they're not even remotely close to the current level of Dota.

@@IsakIngenborg nah mate, you can totally see what's going on from outside the fountain, and only after some time when Reddit whined enough that "reeeeeeee we're just getting played with, Volvo do something plz!!" Volvo added high ground to the fountain area. There also have been several improvements so the losing team can't be played with for too long (invul after respawning, fountain getting stronger with each hit, True Strike for fountain etc etc etc), but I digress
