  • In this video i show a proximity sensor holder which goes onto the cnc plasma torch. hopefully it will replace the floating head setup that i use at the moment.
I got this idea from "Tool Junkie" Langmuir systems Z axis sensor upgrade and Demo

The type of sensor is: inductive sensor k factor=1.
    I am going with: IGS278
EDIT; "I DECIDED NOT TO GO FOR THIS EVEN THOUGH I TRIED IT AND IT WORKED.
REASON BEING TIP UPS COULD HIT THE SENSORS WHILE CUTTING CAUSING PROBLEMS"

suggestion wire the sensor input threw a double throw torch fire relay . that way when torch fires the input to the sensor controller is open so no false triggers wile cutting

hi jeff and Ross, im just trying to work out what you mean with this comment? im not getting it...dont you want the sensors to be closed and ready to open shutoff the torch etc? any info be great thanks, im running the acorn and ohmic and collision touchoff like this...cheers

@@petermcauley4486 i suggested to have torch relay disconnect the sensor when torch is cutting to prevent false trigger in to the controller when cutting. to be honest this setup been tested buy hypertherm many times they never been able to make it work correctly

Hey Ross, I understand that a floating head design is ok on thicker material, but tends to push down on thin stuff, but I'm wondering how close the proximity switches will be to the material, while the torch is cutting?? Nice design, though.

I got the idea from this guy, His is working OK. czcams.com/video/9HZsRRleJug/video.html

@@rosswoolley2854 That's a cool setup. I guess you choose a proximity sensor with the desired clearance, so it's out of the way while you're cutting.
Look forward to seeing yours set up.

Might be the same as an ice-cream on a hot summers day. Enjoy it while it lasts!
