  • Here is the one year, 1000 mile review of my 202 Surly Ice Cream Truck. I have ridden the bike in a wide range of extreme conditions year round here in Colorado. From dirt road and gravel, to single track, to big mountain climbs and descents in dirt and snow, this is my feedback on the bikes performance in stock form.
Please check out the detailed videos linked below, or go watch my Fat Bike playlist to see targeted videos on all of these areas. Please subscribe to the channel if you are enjoying my content, and if you want to see what I do next as I begin to mod the ICT for other types of rides and adventure throughout 2021! Hey Tommy I truly appreciate your time tested review, I feel your reviews are so much more credible than the typical ridden 3 weeks “most playful ride ever but we’d change the grips” bike industry reviews. I’m glad to see less emphasis on fat bike snow riding and really looking forward to the bikepacking editions you mentioned producing this year. Thanks for the great vids, keep them coming!

Hi Donal, thanks for the kind words! I do agree, many bike “reviews” need to be taken with a grain of salt based on time spent with the bike. They may have some value, but riding a bike for a year in a wide variety tells so much more. Excited for adventure riding, have big plans for this year. Thanks for watching!!

I have same bike, put about 8500 miles on it since March, including a lot of winter riding.
My only complaint is I destroyed the rear hub and Surly wouldn’t or couldn’t get a replacement under any kind of warranty.
I agree a dropper seat post would be a good mod.
I have studded Dillinger 5’s and I wish I went studded for the winter years ago.
Going to use Nates in non winter conditions. Amazing how much more agile the ICT is on Nates compared to the Bud and Lou, like a different bike.

Awesome! Glad to hear yours is holding up under such mileage and use! If I ever lost the hub I would use it as an excuse to upgrade anyways.🤙🏻 I don’t find much need for studs in my area, but I know they are essential in some places. I love the Bud/Lou for max monster trucking, but am excited to change up the wheel/tire setup and see how the bike feels then! Thanks for watching and for adding your experiences!

I plan to add Paul Klampers and Paul Canti brake levers to mine, as I'm not a fan of hydraulic brakes. I'm also considering the lightweight Brooks saddle. Love the Icecream Truck, The Bud and Lou looks massive, just put down a payment, soon Fat Bike.. I have owned the Surly ECR and what shocked me is how light the Icecream Truck is... Maybe because the ECR has the racks but the Icecream did feel almost as light as the very nice Trek Farly 9.6...

I have been a big fan of the Bud/Lou combo, great in the toughest terrain when you air it down, it goes anywhere a bike can go. If you keep the ICT stock it isn’t too bad on weight, mine is pretty heavy now with the dropper seatpost and the Wren Perseverance bars on it, but those things are worth the weight.

As someone who also has a Volt, I'm finding that although it's not bad, it's not (for me) the most comfortable saddle either. Would this ICT be a good bike to put a mid-drive electric motor on?

I’m not really up to date on the specifics of the moto conversions, however, IF the conversion part is possible, the bike itself is great and I think would be outstanding with some assist involved.

I"ve found Stans bleeds through the tires a lot more than Orange Seal.

I have heard similar to what you indicated. I have a lot of Stans left so may make change after that. I have always had good luck with Stans on the performance side though, especially in goat head season. Thanks for watching!!

When do you think the next surly ICT will be available?

Well, the 2021 came out in December (it’s the Mint colored bike, have a video up on it). Sounds like they mostly sold through the initial release, but I’m sure there will be more coming. Get with your bike shop and try to reserve one! Thanks for watching!!
