    Highly informative and clear
    Definitely reinforcing my idea of buying one

    You should mention how this kit has a good neck access on lower frets which, even if not perfect, is impressive at such price range

      I haven't built this one yet. So thank you for that tip I will mention it in the final test 😀

    I have recently ordered this kit and they have changed the packaging. Now the parts are sealed inside little plastic compartments that are part of a large plastic bag. Each compartment also contains the screws and washers needed for that particular piece so it's even easier now.

    I got my classical guitar from Thomann and the box was absolutely huge! There was a lot of padding around the actual guitar's box, so kudos to Thomann for safe packaging. I also bought sound equipment for filmmaking from them in the past and it was the same, you get a huge box and dig in to get to another box that's half the size lol. Btw that white dust was on my guitar's neck too, but got rid of it very easily.

    I've just received my strat copy kit from Thomann today and am very pleasantly surprised by the quality and finish. The neck is absolutely flat straight out of the box and the frets are very well finished and levelled. The only other kit I've made was a LP copy from Coban which looked beautiful with a spalted maple top but the electronics were a bit of a mare, it was supposed to be non solder but I ended up buying a new wiring harness for it because the harness supplied with the kit was, as expected, pretty cheap and tinny and, unfortunately, not very well constructed. The Thomann strat copy electronics, on the other hand, look better and are well soldered - all in all, I'm very pleased with it. And it was less than half the price of the Coban kit (although the LP is a gorgeous looking thing and I love it to bits, it plays beautifully!)

      @guitar-academy  Před 4 lety

      I guess the most expensive part is the wood, so I nice spalted maple top is worth paying for and you can experiment with the electrics. I think one of the good things about the strat is the fact that you can do most of the electrics outside the guitar so you can move around it and see what you are doing. Hopefully you will find the same thing . . good luck with it . . . 😊

    Awaiting your construction and finish video...Considering this kit or HB SC450 CB (present cost difference $29USD). I would apply Tru-Oil or Minwax Wipe-On Poly to the back and sides and a spray-painted gold top w/ clear gloss enamel. I'll carve a serious belly cut to dump the weight of these HB boat anchors. Cheers!

    The thing nobody ever says about the strings that come in the kits is this. They are there to set up the action of the guitar. So when you are shaping the nut your not filing and pulling on and off a good set of strings. If you aren't setting up your string heights at the nut and topping the nut so your strings aren't buried. Your guitar will not play well and when you form chords the notes of the chord will be sharp or flat. Action is important.

    Afer watching your amazing SG build, I was curious whether the body of the SC kit is also made of rather soft wood.
    I already did a Harley Benton Strat kit I build, which also had the same issue.

    • @guitar-academy
      @guitar-academy  Před 4 lety +1

      I will be can't answer that question yet as I haven't built any of it, but I can tell you the body is a lot heavier suggesting it is harder wood. . .I will do the build soon

      @@guitar-academy Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. :)
      It being a heavier type is promising, if only for the reason that I do enjoy some of my guitars with some weight to them. Particularly singlecuts.

      @guitar-academy  Před 4 lety +1

      @@theharlequin7280 I'm a bit different I guess. I like a light guitar, but it's because I have a bad leg from a motorcycle accident years back and when I'm working in the studio it doesn't take long before the pain becomes too much. I can work for longer with a light guitar . .

    Hello. I bought this kit and it arrived today. I noticed that the nut slots are not cut deep enough, and the strings don't really go in. Is this something I should worry about or is it fine? Was yours any different?

    • @guitar-academy
      @guitar-academy  Před 2 lety

      The nut slots were find on the one I got, but it was a while ago I bought mine. With the one you're describing it might be a good idea to give it a nut upgrade before the build. 🤔
