  • The worldviews of the technologist dominating innovations in AI involve the technocratic obsolescence of politics, radical techno-optimism, singularitarianism, and beliefs in the simulation-hypothesis. By the standards of most cultures throughout human history these worldviews would be considered “deviant,” “insane,” or “dangerous.”
Zak Stein studied philosophy and religion at Hampshire College, and then educational neuroscience, human development, and the philosophy of education at Harvard University. He is co-founder of The Consilience Project.

I love listening to Zach talk about the complexity of these subjects. We can stop existential risks.

This was a wonderful monologue. As someone that is in data science this is real and is here. Those of us with humanity and imagination will be the ones with the capacity to overcome any challenges created by this new paradigm. Thank you for sharing.

Intergenerational transmission of information, an interesting subject I had not considered. Anecdotally on the surface I think , yes, of course, the state of our public school systems is horrible and teachers just suck at teaching ect. I hated all my teachers and was kicked out of school, I would have loved an AI teacher who had endless patience and could conjure up any manner of visualizations. additionally I'm not a people person and spectrum disorder runs high in my family so that too would have been preferable, but your right, what would this do to our society generationally? I think we are about to find out because I see it as inevitable, so here are my predictions. We are going to have less initial violence as kids are violent creatures and aggress one another often leading to long term PTSD and personality disorders. This might manifest in people who think more logically and are less prone to violence but perhaps more prone to narcissism maybe even borderline personality disorders. This could as a whole make us weaker, a soft target as people who are not experienced in dealing with violence are easily victims of it. This will affect our reproduction and propagations greatly, this will have to be dealt with industrially or we will wink out of existence.

Our education system is garbage , it focuses on breeding specialist for the labour market . there’s very little in the way of transciplinary learning that Ai excels at & not something that will easily be taught generationally due to inhereted blind spots . So Ai brings corrective potential . Who know maybe the blessing in this will be the reinvigoration of generalists & intuition as a form of perceiving emergence .
funny this makes me think of the word emergency & wonder the common epistemology . Herman Hess wrote a science fiction novel in about 1941 called das glassen spielen (the glass bead game) we are about to become players . the question is how to beat the algorithms game & design a new one for human flourishing . perhaps then what is missing is the ability to declare constitutions or principles of engagement that factor in human flourishing & relationships .
