@@TheMNrailfan227 Amazingly, yes! Just a qualifier heat race though so it's not really as much about winning is putting down the fastest time that you can to level up in the mains. I would have been happier if I made another lap and got third.
This is practically the first time I've seen this. Modern Lipos are very robust, however I've seen CZcams guys recommending charging them at 10+C discharge them at mega rates to get them hot, all for an extra 0.01%, it can happen. Not sure what happened here, a short circuit probably, but I don't think they are any less safe than nitro. I've seen run away cars and brake failures on those. Risk in everything
with LiPo batteries it can happen if they get a tiny pin hole in the battery letting it make contact with the oxygen or it can happen like you said if they discharge to fast it will make them hot, melting the out casing letting the inside make contact with oxygen. (I'm pretty sure) I feel like this came on as a warning on one of my old lipo batteries.
These guys charge the lipos at a very high C to get the most amp pull out of the battery to get an edge on the other drivers. Of course you're limited to 1C charging according to the rules (not certain of the rules for this event), but people don't care. And it sure sells a lot more batteries.
Yeah. I remember the days where typical use would puff up a lipo, they are so much better now. But anything that stores energy if abused causes risks. Spill nitro fuel over your car the outcomes aren't good either. People will always abuse, which is why I think Hydrogen cars need to be very carefully considered
@@julesverne2509 Lipo's don't need external oxygen to burn, they already store it in the electrolyte. That's why most usual fire extinguishers are useless when they catch fire.
Imagine if this is at an indoor carpet track!!!! Would be horrible to witness!!? Not much of a safety guy but damn a fire extinguisher would be a must at an RC track 😮
Shouldn't approved lipos be better though? I guess the companies have to cut down on safety to afford the bill of that "Approved" logo >_< The blanket is a good idea! And/Or gloves
All you guys talking about high amperage charging like it’s common in 8th scale. It’s not! If they really did that everyone’s cars would catch on fire. The power systems draw so much amperage (like hundreds of amps) the batteries get warm within a few minutes. They only do the high amp charging for 10th scale stock racing because the systems draw so little amperage they need that amperage to come with much less resistance in order to have more punch
@@buggyworld7723 that’s not why they cycle batteries . The battery fade comes on later when cycled at high amps. It’s for stock racing to run the lightest battery possible. I’m almost certain the 1/8 scale guys do it as well at least at the most competitive levels. I could be wrong 🤷🏼♂️

Man, I feel bad for who's ever car that was. There should be a fire extinguisher at every turn marshal position that had room for one. As a community, we need to step up our safety. Fire extinguishers and flywheel stops need to be on hand for every turn marshal. Drivers should have to supply their own stops.
2023 Psycho Nitro Blast is one of the biggest and gnarly rc track events. You would need like 50 fire extinguishers. Its the 40 foot jump that's making cars fall apart if you case the jump.
@shayne jenkins the reason for the fire is understood. Having 5 fire extinguishers placed around the track at the places most likely to have this issue is better than what we have now. Which is nothing close by.
This was the first thought I had. Where is the closest fire extinguisher? Clearly not close enough. You would think with all of the 4S batteries, and Nitro rolling around, that fire extinguishers would be a no brainer. Hopefully this is a wake up call to consider providing them with a little more accessibility to the marshalls.
i thought that was a bit strange like i would be using that kind of ramp for my xmaxx to be bashing, right in the middle of a race? thats a accident waiting to happen lol
@@danielszanto2955 i disagree, because of the amount of money this race generates the layouts shouldn’t just be for professional drivers that takes the fun out of it & could possibly detour new comers from getting into the hobby which we need
