This guy knows how to make a guitar sing. It sounds as if the guitar itself enjoys the playing as much as we do. :)
yeah chris is the best guitarist in the world 2nd to me
Well said, my friend.
his signature slides into and out of notes are killer sounding.
perfect symbiosis
He is a smooth operator for sure. Love his feel and composition skilz.
Chris Buck, I have to tell you that in the world of guitar players you are a singular joy to listen to! You have gone beyond simply playing and are now an artist who has command of the instrument and can express yourself perfectly. I literally feel more alive after listening to you! You should be touring the world and be recognized by music fans everywhere. Thank you for being the person that we have come to know through your music.
I love this. Bolan is super underrated, but when u dig into his rig it’s very cool with transistor heads etc and a massive tone. Great singer/songwriter and sadly missed by fans. ❤
Coolest thing is you’re a killer musician, a gear head of sorts AND are super accessible and like, normal dude! Love FFWs man!!!
Chris is such a bad ass player! Damn!!!!!! The emotion and technique of which he plays is untouched, he has his own sound!!!
He is kinda the Uncle Larry (Tom Bukovac) of his side of the pond.. :p I am waiting for more recordings of Cardinal Black
Absolutely amazing playing ❤ Thanks for the ongoing inspiration Chris 🫡
That.....was one of the most soulful leads I've ever heard
Pardon my french but you never fucking cease to amaze me with your playing man you are it brother the cream of the crop love that intro jam.....
Bolan Les Paul 1973 (2nd half of) Carsmile smith : One of guitar history's most sublime pieces, in both composition & execution. A fine demonstration of the expressive emotion of the les Paul sound.
Lovely guitar and great playing, but you know, I would much rather Mark was back on this earth. I was eleven in '71, and his hits rocked the boys, his looks rocked the girls. R.I.P. the most amazing talent.
What an epic song in the start of the video!!!
One of the amazing things about Chris Buck is that he doesn't use his pinky finger that often, usually just the first three fingers on the fretting hand! 😮
You and Tim Pierce are in the pantheon of great players. Always a treat to hear you belt one out.
Just about the only guitar player that amazes me EVERY time I watch you play!!!!!
Fantastic and emotional playing, Chris. Keep playing and inspiring us all!!!!!! ☺
Nice bit o' Buick McKane, played Chris Buck style!
Always look forward to Friday fretworks and watch it as soon as it pops up. Sounds great !
How much for it
I don’t even have to see the video. I can listen to about 20 seconds and tell that it’s Chris Buck playing …very unique sound!
It has a monster sound. Just shows, it doesn't have to be a "Holy Grail" late-50s rarity to sound great. Lovely!
That into jam was something special! Great video.
I always learn something cool when I watch these; thanks Chris!
Really enjoyed your playing on this video, especially the intro section - had to listen to it a couple of times for some reason. Thanks for posting.
My favorite Jam section so far. I always enjoy watching you play and your content is amazing. Thank you for another great video.
A wonderful episode and that Jam from 0.08 is absolutely beautiful...can't stop listening to it!
Great history lesson! You could pretty much play a broom and make it sound amazing. Definitely one of the most passionate players out there. Cheers mate!
AwesomeThankyou
The finesse and melody of your playing is astounding.
I’ve always loved the Custom neck with the block inlays and the design on the headstock. The first custom I fell in love with was the white one Randy Rhonda played with Ozzy. Chris has the best feel in the game by the way!
Randy Rhoads had a white LP too.
That intro song is amazing! Such a beautiful melody with a very tasteful note choice!
I'm always complaining that when people do demos of guitars they always keep the volume on 10. The tone changes so much when you back off the volume, even a little. Especially the neck pickup. Which you did turn it down to about 8 or so at one point. That will make almost no difference in the actual volume, but it sweetens the sound up a lot.
Most people who think the Les Paul, and humbuckers in general, are dark on the neck pickup have never heard them with the guitar volume backed off. There's a reason it's really common (standard?) for Les Paul players to use two positions only, ignoring the center switch position, with rhythm volume set on the neck and maxed out volume on the bridge for solos.
Great episode, BTW. I always appreciate when you talk about the history of guitars. Most guys doing these presentations don't do it from a player's perspective. It's more from a historian's perspective, or collectors, with some catchy phrases and buzzwords thrown in. There's a guy, who's name unfortunately escapes me right now. He's Swedish, or from somewhere near their, (lol) who does a lot of vintage amp reviews and he reminds me of you when he demos. You listen to him and you immediately understand why those amps are so revered and sought after. He holds them in revere too, just like you do with these guitars.
Chris I know it's good when my eyes start to water. You have a gift from above!
This video was very informative. Thank you Chris. I never knew about this Les Paul history.
Over time I have become enamored of your Friday Fret Works playing. It seems so thoughtful as in thought through to display or emphasize something ... Much more intriguing than most demo plays. Well done and keep up the good works 😊
Thanks, Chris, your playing is just mesmerizing...thanks ;)
I remember when the Les Paul was "found" and posted on the MyLesPaul forum. I remember at the time a lot of people quite upset over it being suddenly "found" If I recall, Antiques Roadshow had been enlisted on another of Marc's guitars and refused to touch it considering it's origin. Marc had a lot of stuff stolen and the night of the accident, as I understand it, his house was ransacked and a lot of stuff was taken that night
But not the Les Paul. That was stolen during Bolan's lifetime. He played a late 70's standard for his last gigs and TV appearances.
Thank You Chris for the great story and great inspiring playing you and your band must come and play for us in the USA.
I love watching your videos coz your playing style is like I play when I’m sitting on the sofa and watching videos with a fave Solar, Ibanez etc.
cheers from NZ 😎🤘🎸
Again nice play Chris
⚓️ Thanks Chris 😎
HOLY!! Playing 0:59 - 1:00 on a loop now
Nice fretwork buddy! Good backing track too! Always appreciate the history lesson in my fav subject!
Love T-Rex! I was in 7th grade when i first heard him. bought all his albums! Had his poster on my wall for years! My parents hated it! 😅 thanks 😊 just remembered mark and my father both died sept 1977 the year i graduated from high school! Bummer year!
Nice to see you giving Mark Bolan some love great playing as always !!!!
Yes!
Cheers Chris, i loved his music.
That intro solo...... *claps*
Amazing playing!
Greetings from Germany!
Great as always Chris! 👍🎸
on Sunday I'm sitting outside a tea room in Bath UK and this guys walks past pushing a stroller who looks exactly like Chris Buck. I'm sure it was him. I've travelled all the way from Australia and chanced upon this young guitar genius and I was too stunned to move or speak!
Ah, mate! You should have said hello! Hopefully we’ll be coming down under some day soon 🙂
@@ChrisBuckGuitar FARK it WAS you!! I had a similar experience with Jimmy Page last time I was in the UK!
Beautiful work at the start, Chris. I particularly loved that section from 1:10 to 1:13 and that string rake was 🔥
Great playing as always Chris. Nice video.
Cheers from Hawaii
Thanks Chris, I did not know that full story, quite amazing really. Such a tragic end to that talented young man!
Marc is probably my favorite guitarist I think. He had a great ear for pop writing but also could do some soloing that was good but not meandering. If anyone has a favorite solo of his, let me know, i always like finding more stuff from him.
Highway Knees and Carsmile Smith and Rabbit Fighter are 3 that stand out
Your playing at the beginning of the video was so beautiful! It almost made me wept!
WoW Chris!!! Your sound is……..wonderfull!! I love this sound!!! 😊😊🎸🎸🎸🙏👏👏👏👏👏🤗🤗🇮🇹👏👏🤗
That squishy bend your rocking has become the most defining element in your style. 👍👍
Marc did have some oddball's. I remember playing a Black Beauty which when we took it to Kingfisher music (Fleet) turned out to be a re-sprayed gold top.
Intro was awesome Chris 👍👍🍺
Great video.. going to dive in to some R-Rex now… it’s been a min!
How about Peter Greens Les Paul… it pretty famous to and has been changed a number of time..
Nice playing!
Splendid!
Lovely guitar. I like relatively plain top Les Pauls where you can see the grain in the maple but they are not overly figured with lots of flame or bird's eyes. For me they start looking like a piece of furniture when the wood gets too fancy.
Around the same era MIck Ronson's LP Custom with its sanded top was another prominent instrument. Much later Gibson Les Paul Raw Power Standards, with a plain, non glossy maple top look good to me as well. Great playing, as always. Thanks Chris.
Jeeeeez was a good story and passionate playing!
Interesting video, that’s more necks on one single LP than I have ever heard of. I’ve had my Radioshop CS63’s for about a month and they are wonderful.
Wow that sounds great
That middle position sounds great
Chris makes music for the beauty and emotion. Rob Chapman makes sound to be cool to his shredder friends, who also make sound.
Great one
Firstly What a glorious instrument matched by heart felt playing
Loved this vid having been a huge TRex fan at school! Fascinating story but would have preferred to hear you playing more MB riffs on it!
That’ sounded Soo sweet .. 👍🏻
mate youre the mutts nuts , one awesome youtuber and simply one of the best guitarist out there
Changing a bolt-on neck is one thing but changing a Les Paul neck is another, he must have found some real good guitar techs/luthier to do that job correctly, intriguing story thank you.
If i remember correctly, Marc stated he did the neck change by himself, which i absolutely doubt. It's a very difficult to change a glued in neck!
I've read the thread. Very interesting
Interesting Buckmaster. I saw him play an LP at the IOW 1970. It was bigger than him but sounded amazing even with the erratic PA system. I'd go for authentic 59 burst. Maybe 😂
You definitely need to find a way of adding that guitar to the collection. Brings out some great playing
Mark Bolan himself told me it was a 58 at the Whisky on Sunset strip when T Rex played there.
Chris. How did you get so good on guitar? There is real. And there is Unreal. Chris Buck's playing is above the Mesosphere. Somewhere in a realm above the atmosphere. He has come to us from beyond.
parent musicians? otherwise, become the guitar, live as guitar. Fall asleep two nights a week while still holding guitar. Repeat until 10,000 hours.
You will feel it coming, and it will keep you going!
Gotta love music, and your guitar as much as Chris obviously does. Best thing I can find, nothing comes close.
Nice to see recognition of T Rex from the Tyrannosaurus Rex era…I discovered them via Unicorn & fell completely in love.
I’ve never really come to terms with their switch to electric, actually
Holy smokes Chris! You could make a broom handle and elastic bands sound great, but I really think the Les Paul suits you so well! Common Gibson! Sign this man and build him a signature model to his specs! Outstanding
You're Better than Ya Know. Ya remind me of Gary Moore! The Melodies are So Sweet!!!!
Fantastic playing as always Chris! If you could make the backing track in the first jam available on your website it would be much appreciated!
I think he had it top wrapped though? Stellar tones as usual.
Mick Ronsons next?, assuming you could get hold of one of the Gibson issues.
Technically Gibson never did make a Ronson reissue. I almost bought a made to measure 68 reissue on reverb identically to micks. I missed it. It sold within 2 hours! I was pissed. There is a music store in Massachusetts who makes his guitar with permission from the Ronson family. Around 8 grand. They used his actual guitar and recreated it.
Accurate repro or no, that is one magnificent guitar in its own right.
Marc bolan was a pop star not a virtuoso! I loved the whole thing he had going with Mickey Finn and Gloria jones and another girl as backup singers. Not the greatest musicians but what a great vibe. The whole package was cool to watch
Missed ya
Interesting story that I hadn't heard.
What a beauty - and played a darn sight better than poor old Mark could ever do!
*Marc* also, he was a fabulous player in his own right.
The point is, you could have had John McLoughlin playing guitar in TRex, but it just wouldn't have had that signature sound, identity - or huge cultural influence.
Errrm. technically yes. In all other respects NO.
@@thomascroft5076 What, like having Eric Clapton playing in Status Quo?
Wow Chris I hope you know how special you are.
sweet intro
Really interesting show today. I’ll bet that guitar feels really weird… lighter weight body with a 70’s style Custom neck. My ‘78 Custom is very heavy. Lol.
Wow! That intro playing ❤
What is the backing track please?
I can't believe Marc Bolan threw a '59 Les Paul standard off the stage ☹️☹️☹️ then again, Pete Townshend didn't seem to care much about his guitars either...
Across the stage. If he’d thrown it off the stage I’d venture to guess that someone would have broke the fall
@@nickdryad My bad 🙂 I must have misheard what Chris Buck said...
If I had been in the audience when he threw it "off" the stage I would have run away with it ha, ha, ha...
Also. Forgot. Congratulations on making the Blues Cruise. And be prepared to eat so much that you return home the size of a small continent. 🎉
The real question , at least for me is : Will it enhance my enjoyment of playing? Is it better than the Epiphone SG or the Les Paul Goldtop I have now?
I did not realise that wide range Humbuckers were any different.
I think Fender is not going to have any success with the Stratocaster pickups. They just don't look like Stratocaster pickups. And it's kind of a sound that nobody is chasing on a Strat really.
Really enjoyed the vid though Chris. Stellar tones and playing as always 😊
Beano was reissued also, how?
could you make a video on the Marshall supa fuzz?
Chris, I am curious about the ES-355 reissues from a couple years back? Are any more being considered?
I don't think Marc refinished the guitar. There was an article in a guitar magazine maybe a decade ago where ones of his roadies/helpers said when Marc bought the guitar it was already finished that way. IIRC he got it from a guitar shop in Essex.
