The garden on the slope can be beautiful, with a unique atmosphere that you can hardly reach on a plane. However, it is redeemed by the difficulty in setting it up. It is worthwhile to proceed thoroughly and carefully, to select the appropriate plant species, to invest the necessary construction work.
Sloping terrains are common here, thanks to the richness of our landscape. Solving the garden on a slope is interesting, both in terms of compositional solution and in terms of species composition of plants. Even gardens with steep terrain can be very attractive and charming, even easier than the gardens on the plain. We can use various walls, terraces, stair steps, rock gardens, cellars, stony hillsides as well as water puns (waterfalls, streams, terraced lakes…). Thanks to the terrain there are also completely unconventional views, views, detailed spaces, private corners and above all beautiful views of the surroundings, which seem to enlarge the garden.
Land on slopes is mostly characterized by desiccated areas, which should correspond to the plant composition. In these places we plant very thermophilic plants suitable for poor, light and permeable soil.
As far as plants are concerned, we must take into account both their growth characteristics and their living conditions when planning a future garden on a slope. Both the aesthetic and the artistic aspects are applied when we consider the distribution of plants over the area and in space.
As far as planting trees on a slope is concerned, the possibility of drying out the root system where the slope is too steep and the tree standing directly on the slant must also be recognized. However, spacious slope benches can prevent these problems and provide large solitary trees with enough space for planting and subsequent growth.
If you settle down the slope, you can enjoy a different perspective in every season. Just as the seasons will change, the vegetation on the slope will change in shape and you will enjoy the work done.
