Loving the Stage 1 tune so far. It is not *Night and Day*, however it does bring out your favorite characteristics of the stock car and make them last longer and more pronounced. The speeds go up way faster on the highway now.

Mic Setup:
- Saramonic Microphone is mounted outside of car on top of the license plate frame in the rear.

That sounds amazing. Stage 1 is just enough for this engine on the sweet spot of sound and longevity
bro i could listen to this all day. heavy weapon u got there sir!! safe driving bro.
Thanks man! Yeah i also made this video so I can get my fix when im away from the car haha
Best video on CZcams to demonstrate the beautiful soundtrack
Thank you I appreciate that a lot! Shout-out to the Audi engineers to making such an amazing car.
I could watch this all day. Thanks for the video. Stage 1+ tuned myself great to hear what it sounds like.
Thanks for watching! Yeah wish it sounded like this in the cabin haha
@@ShaanNotShawn Still sounds awesome in the cabin. Video is what everyone behind you hears. Thinking about stage 2 soon but will be a cop magnet with the pops.

Really does, is it only midpipes? The rest of the exhaust stock? Looking at buying a 2022 rs3, doing some homework now lol.
@@pucci2001 Yup, only Midpipes that remove the secondary cats
Buddy you’ll be 21 in 2022… you don’t need an RS3
@@pucci2001 Yep the rest of the exhaust is stock! I did hear the 2019/2020 models were quieter from the factory than 2018, but hopefully not too quiet after the midpipe.

@@itsalistairjames so strange I'm debating selling up my R33 GTR, freeing up some cash and going for an RS4 avant. Funny how you sold an RS and swapped to a GTR and I'm thinking of doing the same but the opposite way lol.

Bonkers mate

Holy shit....Yeeeeeessss! 👺💪🏾
Haha I am making sure to get my money's worth out of this car.
Damn 🔥
sounds so sick!! only thing that puts me off is 4wd, no bum twitchyness lol. nice vid man
Haha, yeah this car definitely understeers alot during track days. I ended up buying a 2007 Cayman S for a really nice handling car. So these two have been an amazing combo.
@@ShaanNotShawn That's awesome mate best of both worlds, Porsches are next level!
I have the new RS3 with their new "torque vectoring" system, and I can make the ass end swing around all day. Audi really seems to have hit the sweet spot between AWD and RWD with the new one. I thought it might just be a gimmicky thing that didn't really work, but that's not the case. No understeer, and you can literally blow donuts if you want.
I traded in an M2 for it, which is RWD and I'm not missing RWD at all. (I am still missing a clutch though, but overall I like the RS3 more)
How did you get such clear audio? I ended up buying the same mic you used and we have similar setups but my audio comes out all distorted and chops out at higher rpms unlike yours. So strange
I think having the mic positioned at between the licence plate frame and the rear camera allowed for the least amount of wind noise which helped out a lot. Getting a better quality wind sock would probably help even more
Sounds amazing.
I have a question, I just got the car , it's a 2019. I'm looking for a tune. I'm going Stage 1 91oc. But unfortunately there is no 91 oc in my area , only 87 and 93. Uni doesn't offer Stage 1 on 93 so I guess I'll go with Stage 1+ 93oc. but If I go stage 1+ 93oc then I have to go along with Stage 2 TCU. ( it says on their website)
I'm so confused. I just want to do Stage 1 ECU + TCU tune on 93oc.
I don't want to push the trans too hard.
I think you will be fine. Stage 2 tcu will just allow faster shift times to match the higher power level. I noticed on normal driving it still chooses to shift slower(to conserve the transmission) and only shifts fast when driving aggressively. If I had 93 octane I would gladly do that tune.
My dream car
Hope you get one! Learn how to do maintenance yourself and it makes this car alot more affordable.
@@ShaanNotShawn tysm my guy, I'm driving a s3 now, but I want more power. Do you recommend going stage 1 ECU tune or save up and upgrade to RS3?
@@yameboxing4882 S3 is capable of making RS3 stock power easily, BUT the 5 cylinder engine is just special the sounds/and feeling you get from it is what makes it worth it. After this car I don't really want a 4 cylinder again.
If hp/torque is more important and you think it will be satisfying enough at S3 stage 1/2 levels, go that route it will be cheaper. Tuning the RS3 makes it very fast but it isn't as cheap so you'll also have to save up for those upgrades after you get the car. But even stock RS3 was great.
@@ShaanNotShawn yes the sounds of the 5 cyl sure is amazing. If I'm thinking of resale for my s3 , would you say that I just upgrade my tyres and update on haldex + transmission services ?
If your car is stock I think that will be great for resale. If your current tires have a decent amount of tread I wouldn't even bother. Otherwise go with some decently priced summer tires like continental extreme contact sport or Michelin pss4s. If you are selling privately yeah getting the haldex/dsg fluid done would be a nice bonus too
Sounds awesome. Did you need the TCU tune with the stage 1 or is it only optional?
It's optional with stage 1, I just wanted to make sure the two played well together.
You'll put down more torque with a tcu tune
What mic did you use to record this? It sounds really nice, want to try it myself!
Hey check out the video description. The mic I used might be discontinued tho, but you should be able to do the same with any mic. Just find a place to tape the mic with the least wind noise
@@ShaanNotShawn Thanks!
How is it possible your car makes the dsg burble sound on shift after launch control? I thought they didn't do that.
Hmm do you mean the upshifts during the launch or the burble antilag sounds during downshifts? If it's the latter I think that's default stock behavior. You just downshift and mash the pedal immediately and it kinda does a rolling launch. It's awesome
@@ShaanNotShawn I actually meant during launch control. But funny to know what the burble on a downshift is aswell when immediately mashing the throttle. Rolling anti lag cool!
Hey mate. Sounds amazing. I want similar! What is the exhaust set up please? Sports exhaust with resonator delete?
Yep exactly, Sports exhaust with ecs mid pipes. Honestly get the mid pipes of the brand that you would most likely get the matching downpipe.
@@ShaanNotShawn Miltek probably best in the UK! Thanks mate
What exhaust setup you have? Sounds good AF
It's just the stock sports exhaust but aftermarket midpipe that gets rid of the secondary cat.
@@ShaanNotShawn does removing the cat only affect sound or does it enhance performance?
Moving for 91
Like you don't have access to 91 currently?
No, actually, we don't know where I live. We have 87,89,93 100 unledded, 110 ledded, and e85. Metro Detroit Michigan. We don't have 91 here. I was impressed as to how well it moves for being on 91 as it would he down on power vs 93/98/100 and e85
What exhaust do you have?
Lol this thing is moving this well on 91!? Looks fast as fuck from the POV
Actually running 92 on a 91 tune, wish I had access to 93 for that tune . Should be on e85 this summer!
But yeah the car is pretty quick, I love it.
Also what year is your car and what country are you from? And is the with the Audi sports exhaust?
2018 Audi RS3 in the USA. Yep this is the Audi sports exhaust. The midpipes come with a secondary cat here so thats why I got some midpipes.
@@ShaanNotShawn Thanks for the reply, I have a 2018 as well however it does not have the sports exhaust. I’ve been trying to figure out whether or not it made a difference other than the black finish because when I called Audi Canada they said that there was no difference in sound or the exhaust note.. wierd
Hi mate, could you provide a link for the midpipe you have for the Audi rs3. Mine is 2018 also

I have a stage 3 B5 S4 and a Stage 2+B8 S4.Should I sell them and buy an RS3 is my question?🤔
I'm not too familiar with how either of your s4 drives. But if they are similar in horsepower/torque it would come down to if you like the 5 cylinder sounds and attitude better than both of your cars. If you do plan to buy one I'd sell one of your cars now while the market is hot, then buy an rs3 when the market calms down. Either way sounds like your cars must be fun!
does it have anti-lag or something? at 3:50 it makes a noise similar to how my BMW would when i used anti lag. i heard it a few times throughout this video. thanks!
I didn't install anti-lag so this is some feature that came stock with the RS3. Its kinda awesome where I can downshift, floor it and there is a second of building up boost (that noise) and basically launches me into that gear.
@@ShaanNotShawn we’re you able to rev past 3k rpm? i just tuned mine but it has the stupid soft limiter still..
did u also install non-factory downpipes or did you only install the ECS mid pipes??
Nope just the midpipes. Still oem downpipe.
@@ShaanNotShawn did u have to cut the factory exhaust at all or weld anything or did it fit right on
@@danmina8921 nope it was a simple remove 6 bolts and put the ecs pipes on. I will suggest if you plan to upgrade the downpipe in the future choose the same brand midpipes for better fitment. I didn't have any fitment issues tho
I would like to know wit installing Unitronic Stage 1 - 91 octane, has the unwanted LAG (low rpm) reduced considerably?
I guess depends on if you drive in auto mode. In auto mode it takes a second to decide if it wants to downshift. If I'm already in gear it takes off pretty quick.
I can't say it will be a huge difference if that's what you are after. Stage 1 91 makes everything a bit sharper and more power up top. At 93 tune car feels a bit more happy at lower rpms
Now are you running stage 1 tcu because everyone is telling me to run stage 1 ecu and stage 2 tcu
I'm running stage 1 tcu. It's not a night and day difference to be honest with you. But I'm thoroughly enjoying stage 1 with it. Yes everyone tuning their rs3 has been ready the go stage 2 since they bought it lol. I love the car as is. But yeah when I go stage 1 e85 I will go stage 2 just cuz it's required.
How have the ECS Midpipes been? Deciding between getting those vs a AWE exhaust..
Awe sounds very expensive. I'm not sure how much of an improvement you will get over the midpipes. The stock sports exhaust with the midpipes provide plenty of amazing 5 cylinder noises. Always get compliments on how good the car sounds.
@@ShaanNotShawn Ah yeah, definitely think I’m leaning towards the midpipes now! Have you had any issues since installation? What made you go with ECS vs unitronic?
I think the reason people go that route is to avoid the wastegate rattle that comes with upgrading the downpipe. But with the stock downpipe don't see a reason to do it.
@@muscularweeb I went with ecs just because they had a crazy good deal. No issues and easy installation as long as you get the car up in the air and get some extensions to get to the bolts. I will say if you do plan to get a downpipe try to get the matching midpipes for best fitment.
@@ShaanNotShawn Appreciate the reply. How has the tune been reliability and daily driving-wise? How many miles have you had it with the tune?
wait for the new 2022 Rs3 :)
Probably a good thing I don't have drift mode cuz I'd get into trouble
Good luck finding one....and if you do, not paying a 20k markup. Sick ass cars though.
Why does the Tac changes in color? Green yellow Etc?
When you are in manual mode, it gives the shift lights.
makes me want to sell my type R and get one of these
Type rs are so nice though. I haven't driven one but they completely destroy at autox. I'm sure fun on the track too.
@@ShaanNotShawn yeah man, super fun car. Before the R i had a mk6 GTI with a K04 turbo and I do miss the DSG bangs
What kind of gas mileage do you get when driving in manual?
If I'm driving in manual chances are I'm going fast 😹. Honestly drive in dynamic sport most of the time. It's really boring to drive slow or accelerate slow in this car
Spirited driving-14mpg
City driving - 19mpg
On average probably 19mpg
Conservative highway driving in comfort mode- 30mpg
At the track 5mpg
@@ShaanNotShawn have you driven a tuned Golf R MK7.5? Obviously this is faster by a country mile but what about the driving dynamics etc.
Sounds awesome! Does it pop/burble more on downshifts and on upshifts after tuning?
And does the exhaust valves behave different than stock?
Unitronic includes a stage 1 variant to specifically say valves always open in S mode. So I chose that one. I think because of this the valves are more open across the rev range in sport mode and the pops and burbles come way more often when driving spiritedly. It's awesome. Most pops happen when letting off the gas.
@@ShaanNotShawn perfect! Thank you!
@@ShaanNotShawn Stage 1 Unitronic ECU tune allows for the valves always open in S Mode? Or is this Stage 1 TCU you mean? I really want this!! Please can you let me know if it's Stage 1 ECU or TCU that has this feature? As I am going to get it right away!! Thank you
@@zaksampson8445 Hey Zak,
Yep there is a couple stage 1 ECU tunes with S always open valves or just stage 1.
TCU tune won't matter for this feature.
Hope you enjoy it!
do you have tcu tune with this as well or just ecu tune
Yep tcu stage 1 and ecu stage 1. I don't really know what it's like to drive stage 1 without the tcu tune, but I imagine a little bit of hesitation there with the added power.
Got the same setup (Unitronic Mid pipes and Stage 1) but doesn’t sound like that?🤔
I had the mic mounted on top of the license plate, it definetly doesn't sound as good in the cabin. Also not sure if you have a 2019+ model it might be a quieter exhaust.
@@ShaanNotShawn 2018, do you have it on S or M dynamic mode?
@@jazcars757 I had it on M this time around, but sounds similar in S mode. Also with the unitronic tune, there was a particular stage 1 tune for 100% valves open in S mode all the time.
@@ShaanNotShawn Thank you so much! I didn't know about that 100% valve being open. I'll check it out.
Hey in 1 week I will get my audi rs3 2019, what changes did you do to get the monster sound? Did you take off the opf?
Hey Luis, this sound is extra loud because the mic is on the license plate in the exterior. But this tone is just by having the stock sport exhaust combined with any brand of straight midpipes.
@@ShaanNotShawnOkay but it still have an awesome sound, but your rs3 is 2018 so maybe it doesnt have opf
@@luisjaneiro7820 oh yeah I forgot they changed that from 2019 forward. Not totally sure how drastic the sound difference is
@@ShaanNotShawn in the 2019 forward rs3 you don't get those pop bangs when you acelerate🥲
But still has a nice sound
What made you choose the ECS mid pipes over the unitronic ones or any other brand
It was the cheapest set at the time, and no difference in the performance no matter the brand of midpipe. I would have gone with unitronic now that they are both 250$. But still pretty much the same.
Could you provide a link to the mid pipe you purchased from ECS? I don’t see their brand. Thanks.
Interesting it looks like they discontinued it or its no longer available. Its the same result regardless which straight midpipes you end up getting. I would recommend whichever brand you expect to get the equivalent downpipe for, just to ensure perfect fitment if you go that route. Otherwise the most inexpensive is just as fine.
@@ShaanNotShawn is there a real difference between IE Stage 1 ECU and your Unitronic--or would you suspect they're relatively the same? Have both tunes sitting in shopping carts not knowing which to choose.
@@brandonaitken1180 I went with unitronic just because of the high % of tuned rs3s that used them never had issues. I'm sure at stage 1 levels you will be fine either way. Heard good things about IE but just wanted to stay safe and go unitronic. What's the price difference?
@@ShaanNotShawn Right now IE Stage 1 ECU with power link is $850. Would you consider Unitronic Stage 1+ ECU worth the extra cash over its regular Stage 1? I want to copy your setup. I already ordered the mid pipes.
I agree about staying safe. I'm not looking for pure power increase although getting rid of that initial lag would be a huge plus. I'm more interested in amplifying that I5.
@@ShaanNotShawn just purchased Unitronic Stage 1 after seeing additional recommended hardware for the Stage 1+. Thanks for the videos man. You're the sole reason why I went with my purchases.
Démoniaque!!😥😥
Is this the sport exhaust or standard exhaust?
Sport exhaust came with the car when I bought it used. Then just replaced the midpipes.
What tires are you running?!
In this video it was the michilin pilot super sports 4s. They were being chewed up on tracks days so I switched to hankook rs4s
Any change to sound after the tune? Are valves completely open in dynamic? Feels like they aren't at low RPMs when stock
Yep so with the tune its 100% open in S mode all the time. Dynamic and D mode I think they still close a bit at lower RPMs. But definitely alot more crackles and pops than before and louder in S mode.
