He’s always been a solid pitcher, I’m surprised he’s bounced around
The a's and the reds didnt really want to commit to him, and he was a bit underwhelming with the yankees for a few reasons that probably turned teams off to the idea.
@@antonioreconquistador He wasn't bad in 2017 but in 2018 the guy was disappointing. It's probably the case that the Yankee Stadium wasn't the best environment for the guy.
He probably won’t win the Cy Young, but at least he’s making it interesting up at the top. It’s weird to see a Twins team with such good pitching, fantastic, but feels so… unfamiliar since the days of Johan Santana

@@jeffstrosmchats7259 A). This vid has plenty of good reasons as to why he’s underrated. B). I agree that he won’t win Cy Young and C). It’s the numbers not the stuff that matters. Gray and Cole have a very similar way of attacking hitters, and while Cole does have better stuff, it’s the way he controls it that is why he’s the Cy Young this year, not how it moves.

A funny thing about this year is when Sonny gives up runs it is almost always in one inning and he is mostly dominant besides that inning of the game. But it will be interesting to see if he stays with the twins. They will give him a QO so we will see but I would like to keep him on the team.
I’ve really enjoyed watching sonny pitch throughout this year with my dad, especially in the beginning of the year where he went like 6-1 with a 1.70 era or something like that. He just gives quality start after quality start, with reliable stuff. I’m hoping he gets the ball for our first game in the postseason and can carry us to a win. I’m also hoping that we end up keeping him on a new contract because he has been so damn good for us this year that I would hate to send him away, but idk if we’ll have the money to with how good he’s been this year, proving how much he’s worth.
As a Reds fan, I appreciate what he did for us. 2018 we were 🩸 bleeding runs. Ugly. Then we traded for him and he was an all star for us

Sonny has come a long way since his Oakland A’s days I remember watching the games he started and has done well some starts he’s been knocked around but overall I agree he’s very underrated. Happy to see he’s done well in Minnesota.

In the best way possible. He is the best number 2 guy in a rotation. On a bad team, he is absolutely the ace, on a competitive contending team, he is a number two. Just quality.

Imo I think Armstrong is more underrated seeing he's lost in the collection of revitalized relievers (even though hes prob their best one) and starters will always find more recognition then the boys in the bullpen.

It's what hassle a typo players the Yankees try to change or mold into their own erasing everything they've learned to win with in the past. They turn shortstops into third basemen, third basemen into first basemen, and before they were Yankees, they were Allstars. Cashman, Girardi, and Boone like ruining momentus careers and diminishing them into laughing stocks. Sonny Gray was a top five pitcher, and they took his best pitch away. Even Koroda went back to Japan to prove he still had it.
Gerrit cole is the front runner for cy young by a pretty big margin, especially as a fan who values the “workhorse” while being an efficient type of pitcher with a low ERA while eating innings and punching out some of the most in the league and a low WHIP and highest WAR for pitchers. With that being said, gray is a great dude and a great pitcher and deserves 2nd in the cy young race, he’s one of those candidates. The candidate that just needs to pitch more innings and strike out some more guys to prove his true value. Great season by Sonny! Easily the most underrated pitcher with Kyle Bradish.
Gerrit Cole is not only having a great season, but his competitors have teammates who are having good enough seasons to cancel them out. For Luis Castillo, it is George Kirby and Logan Gilbert. For Sonny Gray, it's Pablo Lopez and Joe Ryan.

He was so terrible on the Yankees. The Yankees could be ahead by ten runs but when they put him in as relief he’d make the game competitive again. 5 runs for the opponents almost instantly!I’d be like” now how did that happen?”

Sonny is a great pitcher. Any team (other than the Yankees) would be grateful to have him. Maybe the Red Sox could sign him. Now that Chaim's gone, maybe the Sox can start signing good players and not letting other good players get away. Time will tell.
