During my live stream of hydroneer i got side tracked and created my farming system that basically does everything apart from planting obviously have to use the cropper for that but this works well enough

I like the splitter for veg to be chopped or become seeds. I was stuck on how to do that. I hadn’t thought of splitters. Fantastic idea
Many thanks for working this out! I have yet to setup a big farm yet, automation was keeping me from it (I didn't want to use the magnet setup). I am going to use your concept when I get to it in my main save.
Challenge: can we make a setup to automatically find and pull 5-weight iron ore chunks from the smelting queue for those silly quests? (I know you can reject them via the scrapper, but still.)
Well I've only got 2 hidden achievements left to get. I emptied My system and sold $38m worth of stuff to the jeweler, so I think it's time to just think about how I'm going to pretty up South Hope.

Not sure if it works with the sprinklers so low, but when above they fill up the hydrocroppers water tank
yeah i know about the filling up i just have to raise it up but i have an idea for that a little later to make a filling station its all good.
I watched this video because I was also putting effort into farming automation. I had a couple observations/questions.
1. You may have noticed the crops coming out of the cropper are mixed and they are dispensed in 1 weight units instead of the normal fractional weights. It means it's theoretically possible for you to have an output of carrot - tomato - carrot - tomato - carrot - tomato - carrot - tomato which would result in zero carrot or tomato seeds. It's an extreme example but bad randomness could lead to you having a net loss on seeds. It's also possible that if you had a small harvest where you didn't get much more total weight than the number of plants you can end up with fewer seeds than plants you harvested.
2. Looking at the manual effort you're doing with seeds, why not put the seed bags into the veggie basket and use that to load the cropper? Seed bags lose collision inside the basket and can all be nicely dumped into the cropper is a very small stack.
3. 50% of the harvest going to seeds is going to cause you to constantly increase your seed count which I can see you're putting into seed boxes. I'm not entirely sure why you're doing that. 25% of the harvest is too little. It's possible to do some light logic automation using magnets, logic saw hooks (at least two), and a cut veggie stacker to get an exact seed output. Hit me up through the Hydroneer discord if you're interested in some screenshots/diagrams of a seed setup I did in creative.
All in all, the worst part of farming automation is planting which requires you to use the cropper and the worst part about the cropper is seeds. The problem with seed automation with the cropper is it doesn't play nicely with mixed seeds because seeds don't lose collision when put in the cropper hopper. I concluded the best way to approach seed automation is to use lane farming and have 6 croppers.
Now we just need trapdoors for the seeds to fall through and into a basket. Love the build!
i have thought about putting a conveyor there and a lever to turn it on and off as well. but we shall see.
this is insane i bought the game recently and love it im at the part of the game where i need to farm but im lazy and love those sweet sweet dripping conveyors i love this would like to see a tutorial for the 50/50 swap tho
I put the sprinklers overhead (5 blocks high) and put the logic lights left and right of it to make the plants grow faster. You can turn the lights on with a button, and then put a pipe where the button was (I also place a foundation so the lights don't seem to levitate).
I did not know splitters would do 50/50, that makes things way easier for me
Very nice build! I did similar things but definitely going to adopt parts of this to my system
thats what these videos are for. to help people think different and adapt bits to their own builds.
Is 5 blocks/floors high enough for the cropper to slide underneath? I thought it needed to be 6?
@@Rathamar The cropper is 4.5 foundations high. If you put a pipe on the 5th height (1 being at raked ground level at the wheels) the rollbar will hit it if I remember correctly. So 5 block gap, pipes at 6
I really wish you would have shown the vegetables going to the crushers. My sorters aren’t working properly and it seems to randomly sort the wrong chopped vegetables into the wrong veggie crushers.
Hay man loved the stream yesterday! Sorry if I didn't express myself as well as I wanted to in chat. Basically, what I wanted to say was that farming in Hydroneer is not my cup of tea, at least until it gets updated. Love your content and looking forward to what you will build next.

Definitely going to use that lane setup when I finally get the cropper, but I'm a long way from automation. Right now, I only just got my first sprinkler for my small patch in Ember Cradle.
I'm curious about the radius of sprinklers. I have mine hooked up to a boosted iron pipeline, and it waters my 5x6 plot of seeds. Need to see how far it can go. Does raising the sprinkler actually increase the radius, like a cone underneath it? I know increasing water pressure helps it, but all the farm guides I've seen have the pipes at least five blocks up.
if u raise up the sprinkler higher yes it will do a slightly larger radius

it's incredibly annoying how expensive the sprinklers are. 2100 Tokens for each. the food quests are only netting me 30-350ish tokens per.
if you can get into the higher veg then the soups become worth more but its a real push. doing the kings quests is a bitch to start with but it does pay out well in farming tokens when u do the veggie one.
Sprinklers will fill your fuel tanks as long as they are above and in range

when it comes to logic im not great i can make basic things but rhats about it. i normally use levers to makr them work.
@@Hybridsteel Thank you for responding. Have faith in yourself man, your builds and explanations are great. You've taught me everything I know about Hydroneer, so you're doing great!!! I was struggling a bit with magnets today wanting to understand how they work in order to place them underneath my gem compressors, because even with two layers of funnels, the gems were still spilling onto the sides of the compressors sometimes. From what I gathered, the magnets dont need power to work, and they once placed, so picking up and dropping a gem by hand wont trigger them, but when left alone like in the above scenario, they seem to be doing what I want them to do. Thanks again for all your helpful videos.
all logic runs on its own power but oddly logic in this game doesnt really make sense to me so i steer clear of it and only make simple things.
hi hybridsteel. at 6:17 into the video where u have the funnel setup for the seeds, why dont u have the conveyors there to have the seeds go into the harvestor? would be a lot easier instead of having them get sorted by hand.
Did you not finish the video? He explains why he has it set up the way it is. You may want every seed to go back into your harvester, but he doesn't.
Everyone has their own desired outcomes. You want every seed to be in the harvester, while the next person doesn't. That's the joy of personal preference. You can do it your way, while another person like Hybrid, can do it his way. Not everyone wants the same thing. But thankfully, you can build your system how you would want it to work. I didn't quite understand how you managed to split your harvest 50/50. You use splitters to sort everything but what did you do so that half of it goes to the seed mill ? Was there logic behind that ? I would really appreciate some enlightenment. Thanks
theres no logic in this atall.
so the first load of splitters obviously the veg from the main belt into its own run.
the splitter ontop has nothing on its platform so they are designed to split 50/50
the veg that goes onto the conveyor belt that runs under the splitters goes to the seed mill the veg that is split off to the other direction goes to being processed to the storage.
after the seed mill they go into the cropper ready for planting
Is it bad that I am yet to playing around with automating farming …… 😂 your setup looks clean though and it wouldn’t be Hydroneer if things didn’t get stuck 😂
i already did it with magnets and logic, the only thing u needed to do was replant the veg on the other version i made

it was fun setting it all up and making it work so yes.. and honestly when ur doing the quests u need speed to get more done.
If I put 2 drills facing each other on 1 belt will there dirt clumps combine or should I put the drills will 2 belts between them
nope the dirt wont combine u will have 2 rows of dirt
how did you get it to put 50% into seeds i see you have splitters at the top with nothing on their trays is that how the sorters work when they arent told what to sort?
the splitters without anything on them will split 50 / 50 so it divides itself

a spliter belt with nothing on the platform will split anything into 50 percent so it will alternate direction for each item

What would corestone pipes do with the sprinklers?
it makes it sprinkle a little further
how do you pull the hour glass from creative mode
go into creative mode remove it from a shop put it outside the shop then load up in normal.
it will stop u getting achievments though
right i see so you can start in creative then go into normal can you do the same thing with the wand too @@Hybridsteel
yep u can do it with the infinte filter as well.
@Hybridsteel nice to know I do hate the repair thing ever the auto repair is a pain noticed you have a conveyor belt with tools on it
brilliant last dumb question in coming.....is the damage just on drills and harvesters or all machines. ive noticed my cutter doesnt take any damage what so ever. its the veg dicer the one you use to make more seeds its supplied by water but never seen it take any damage and i have that one ran off its own supply without auto repair. is this the same case for say gem compressors and other machines too. many thanks @@Hybridsteel

if memory serves me right so that means a lm not sure its ur action button i changed mine to suit my play style so cant remember the default.

How did you make everything split 50 50 on those veggies I can't seem to figure it out
if you leave a splitter blank with nothing on the platform the spliter will split half and half.

I did just enough farming to get the kings quest done, and I will NEVER touch a plant in this game again. It takes WAY too long for the idiots to stop giving you nothing but tomato requests for miniscule rewards.
farming should have been sorted there was a hotfix that fixed the progression a few weeks ago all u need is more veg
The problem with farming isn't really the grind though I will have to admit it will take a while to get things automated with a sprinkler even with the revamped rewards but that's part of the fun and progression right? The real problem is that there's literally nothing to aim for once you get a decent sprinkler setup and the hydrocropper. Yeah you made farming a hell lot easier but there's no rewards after that if you did the King's quest too. At least prospecting quests give you the endgame of buying lots of T3 pipes to get the fastest and most efficient type of mining, farming doesn't have the same thing. You buy a sprinkler and a hydrocropper and then it's over. You don't even need to buy seeds at all anymore because of the seedmill works. There's literally nothing to spend tokens on aside from more sprinklers and I guess if you really are into building then greenhouse housing items. But there will always be people who aren't into housing so the progression just abruptly stops after farming automation.
@@mblade01 I did the kings quest by cycling two rows of 10 with overhead drip watering and magnets to pull stuff. Yes it's a pain in the arse, but it didn't take too long once I was cycling decent yields.
@@ComradeJehannum I did my crops via watering cans since I just disliked the poor man's version of a sprinkler. I just hated seeing it or hearing it so I decided to never build one for farming purposes.
