  • Had 3 Thermoecell units stop igniting or would not stay lit several years ago. Bought new ones and decided to tinker with the old ones and found an easy fix.

    Thank you! I actually threw mine away but decided to check CZcams for a fix and came across this video. Took it out of the trash, followed your directions and now it’s working again. Thanks for saving me $30.

    Thank yu Strut. Got 2 fixed this way now an 3rd device i actually had to slightly bend the sparker slightly closer to the fuel nozzle so it can make an arc to ignite.

    Good video! I found the same fix works well for me. While I have it apart though I do one more thing that I found helps. I take the mat holder/heat plate apart and there is a brass barrel with a screen at the top that the butane actually travels through and is the actual "burner". I take that barrel out and clean the screen with some brake parts cleaner and then let it all evaporate out before I put things back together.

    Let me start by telling you I have no affiliation with the author of this video! I do have a love for CZcams and the Thermocell Backpacker Mosquito unit I was having trouble with. The Backpacker is an entirely different unit but hopefully has the same basic components as the one described in this video. I have to admit I didn't watch the entire video before attempting to fix mine because that's the way I roll. I got to the portion where you stretch the spring and decided I would attempt it. My Thermocell Backpacker would light but not stay lit. Now this unit was almost new and only used a couple times but I've had it for a few years so I didn't want to throw it away before at least attempting a fix. Well, It worked!! Without this video I would not have attempted it and really wouldn't know where to start! Thank you thank you thank you for this post. I give it a big "ThumbsUp" and am now subscribed to you channel. Great job and keep the videos coming!

      Steve Fredlund you’re welcome bud. I’m not a “youtuber” by no means, but I kept buying new ones when they wouldn’t light or stay lit so I discovered this easy fix and thought I’d share. Thanks again.

    ty a fix. I bought the patio version today and it would not stay lit. The spring was in a different configuration but I stretched it as best I could then put it all back together and it's been working for an hour, thanks again.

    I have a new MR300 with this problem. They have updated the design now where that spring is behind a little allen keyed set screw. Carefully remove that with an allen wrench, stretch the spring as you see in this vid, and carefully push the spring back in and put the set screw back in. Mine doesn’t light immediately, but at least now it does light eventually after a few minutes of trying. At least it didn’t end up in the garbage :)

      Is the ignition wire near the flame supposed to turn red and stay red?

  • @ruthiefranczek2327

    Great video! It wasn't my spring...the copper wire had slipped off the strikeplate. Anyways, problem solved. Maybe next time, help a girl out and state that it's a Phillips head ...hard to see into those little holes. Enjoyed the malaprop (buprane)!

  • @brianjackson779
    @brianjackson779 Před 5 lety +2

    Realized that if your hear it hissing then you probality don't have an issue with the cartridge emitting gas. Removed the cover plate and moved/bent the copper wire closer to the burner. Closed it up, turned it on...waited 5 secs and click click...back burning and ready for the woods...

    Good video, when I took mine apart I didn't find a long spring like you show. It seems it's that the spring is stuck inside. I tried to insert a small diameter screw to hook the spring and remove it but no luck. I'm sure I can't find a spring to match it so I'm stuck buying a new one. Still like your video.

    That was not my problem because I could clearly hear the bupane (lol) flowing out of the cartridge. It just would not light. Occassionally it would light but then it finally would not light at all do to a lack of ignition. Had an old thermacell that worked for 8 years till I lost it and then I bought this newer model and it sucks.

      I’d check inside and make sure the switch is functioning properly first. Then check the spring is allowing the valve on the fuel to close.
