shoutout to the beautiful nine year old for being safe and doing a lovely performance on flat instead of rushing to go up en pointe for competition and potential hurt herself
Virginsuicde totally agree. I didn’t even go on pointe until I was 10 almost 11
YES
Right!? Like it still shows off her gorgeous technique!
Sophia Liu which is wise. such a talented girl should not hurt her future for the present. its smart to do the variations and work she can handle en pointe and being honest by returning to a flat shoe when the work is too advanced.

I would just like to comment on the outstandingly talented 15 yr. old ballet artist, Mr. Yuma Matsuura, of Japan (9:27). He has won the Senior Age Division @ the 'Youth America Grand Prix' this year and is set to become a student at 'Britain's Royal Ballet School' this September 2018.. A brilliant ballet star in the making, and continued good luck and good health to him.
linda thompson how does he do all that soft landings,he makes it seem so easy uggh
Strength and balance...☺
Urrrh he's just beautiful and talented. Some people are so lucky. Congratulations to him & best of luck!! 💐💐
His landings look like all his joints had a spring system. So soft! Either he is a wunderkind or we have Cylons living among us.
YES! The way he stops perfectly on the first turn killed me
2:51 it’s Brady from Dance Moms season 8!😍
Blueyed _Hawkley omg
Yes
OMG NO WAYYYY
Tara N I know they did but that was simply because of Abby putting them down. They had the choice to leave, they chose not to because they thought being on a tv show would get them somewhere. Also a lot of them never wanted to be a professional
I didn’t realize that!!
9:26
I'd watch him dance all day.
i love the little smirk at 9:34, like "eh, you like that, right?" It's nice to see dancers show personality but also reactivity to what is happening around them. It's so easy to get into this zone where you shut everything out, which is not great not just because it can make you rush or late but also because you want to interact with people sharing the stage and the audience, you know? So much better for everyone all around if you are tuned into your surroundings. Some of the other dancers did have that glassy, over-concentrated look to them, and I don't blame them one bit for it, but it's impressive Yuma is able to be so level-headed at this stage in his career. He's only 15!!!
А я люблю танцевать под балеринскую музыку
@lar ljd so you say but most of the other contestants had a frozen smile plastered on their face... I agree every dancer should be able to do it but if the majority can't do it, it's still worth commending.
I enjoyed his performance the most, he really sold the dance with his facial expressions compared to others :D
I love when men (dancers or not) say or show that 😻💘 being such secure of themselves, I love it

It seems odd to me that the girl at 4:49 won first place... she seemed to really struggle with bringing her foot into a correct coupe position (it was overcrossed) and maintaining her turnout while coming down from releve. She also didnt balance very long... makes me wonder if she won because of her good ballet body and feet
Same I'm shocked she got gold
I totally agree! I don't think she should have won with that performance. However, she is an amazing dancer... but the other 2 girls that placed below her had cleaner, more technical variations.
@@TristanSimpson Tristan Simpson Alright... i actually said that she has good feet... and honey YAGP doesnt watch classwork, they just watch the variation. And this variation did not deserve a win. I stand by what I said. She did not show strong technique in this variation. Im sure she is an excellent student and performer but in this variation, she did not show clean coupe position or turn out.
@@TristanSimpson HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Does "struggle to bring her foot into a correct coupe position and maintain her turnout" sound like a phrase from someone that doesnt know ballet? I trained ballet from age 6 to age 18, went on to dance with a professional company in my state, and TAUGHT ballet for 3 years before I quit to pursue my college degree. I also competed in YAGP myself for 3 years, and no the judges DID NOT watch the class. But sure, tell me how much more you know about ballet. What I said wasn't incorrect: she DID struggle to find coupe and she DID struggle to maintain her turnout. Frankly even if the rest of the variation was perfect that does not deserve a gold medal! But thanks for your opinion. Bye bye ✌
@@TristanSimpson imagine getting so pressed about someone making a valid observation (you literally cannot deny that she didnt do a proper coupe and that her turnout was not being kept) that you feel the need to attack them. Hope you find your inner happiness soon so that you don't have to put other people down 😊 and btw, dont call me "sweetie." I'm older than you AND taller than you so you have no business calling me a name meant to imply that I'm younger/smaller than you.

The female senior silver medalist was absolutely gorgeous. I personally found it better than gold...
i agree, her turns were so beautifully controlled - but we didn't see the full performance so maybe there were some parts in which they were better?
Her turns were beautiful yes but they weren't controlled enough compared to Senior Gold's plus her landing/ending was wobbly. Even a non ballet dancer could see that.
that girl is very poor and has suffered severe injury! She has trained hard and faced many hard ships, rebecca hadibroto. poor girl. she did so well!

I'm from Indonesia, and I'm so proud with Rebecca 😍

Is it just me who thinks Elizabeth's performance was a bit sloppy for a gold medal? She is a great dancer but she turned in her foot to turn more easily and also didn't develope at the same angle every time...:/ just an opinion
yes, she didnt quite reach the correct coupe position either
It could've been her musicality on the baloneys and the transitions. I saw her perform this piece live and shes a lovely dancer to watch!
@@giads7110 I think she is a lovely dancer with almost aspect of dance in her favor (ex. turns, musicality, acting, form, gracefulness, etc) and a sweet person as well! I am just saying that THIS specific performance of Grand Pas Classique was not deserving of gold. Have you seen her do Paquita? If she did Paquita I think it easily would be a fair win. I don't know... just my opinion
@@charlottetanner-morash8072 I agree! I haven't seen her Paquita, but I have seen her La Esmeralda. I do agree with and respect your opinions though.

At 8:48, the lovely and exquisite Elizabeth Beyer, at age 15, has deservedly won the Senior Gold Medal. Her strength and poise are outstanding, and her technique near perfection. The training she is receiving is second to none, and it shows! Congratulations, Ms. Beyer!!!! Beautifully done!

Girls under the age of 16 should NOT be allowed to perform Odile's variation. If the variation is to be danced in character, and it should, even in a sterile and vapid ballet competition, then the choreography and the suggestive nature of the role is far too adult for eleven year olds to be dancing. Preteens have no business tackling "mature adults" material like Odile. Forgive me for being old fashioned.
Agreed, it's easy to forget that ballet is a form of storytelling and some pieces are just inappropriate for children to perform.
Aves Raggiana a
what about dances like Latin dance? Many moves are suggestive in nature, but you can't delay training till the moves are appropriate for the young dancers. They just kind of copy what they are told to do without fully understanding it.
J You’re hitting at a subject on which my opinion differs from the vast majority of more permissive and more casual observers. I don’t believe it’s appropriate for young girls to learn highly sexualised dance forms like some types of Latin dance, jazz, or pole dancing. Call me puritanical but young girls aping moves from the more adult side of human experience, regardless of their awareness of the suggestive nature, just seems like making young girls grow up too fast. It also seems just a little creepy. Again, I fully admit that this is just my hang up. In any case, ballet is a great dance form with which to start. Even if you move on to other types of dance when you get older, you will always bring with you the core strength and sense of line that ballet cultivates in you.
totally agree! the sexualisation of very young girls needs to stop.
8:48 she really looks like she's suffering while doing this LOL

Vera, the first little nine yr old was beautiful! Really proves that you don't need to rush into point work.
It’s is so cool how they can do all this stuff, like some people think it’s easy but it’s not there is so much work that goes into this and it’s amazing. The variety of dancers and all their talent is so amazing and it looks so easy and clean😍
Yuma Matsuura holy WOW AMAZING 😮
Absolutely stunning performances, every last one.

Damn !!!! They’re all sensational ... and at such young ages. So poised and mature. The 14 year old looks a lot older than the 11 year olds .... but they’re only 3 years apart. It’s uncanny. You’re a senior at 15 ???!!!! The gold medalists .... wow!

Rebecca alexandria - all the way! Such a prescence!
it makes me sad seeing all of these 11 year olds on pointe
dancing on n
I agree.. it's okay for 11 yos to start pointe gently if they have well grown and strong feet but the level these kids are at they must have been training en pointe a while😯😯 they will have very painful feet when they r older probably, I hope they r ok
dancing on its perfectly fine for them to be on pointe. There’s no magical age to start pointe. Beginner pointe dancers also progress faster than some people think. These kids are probably all in some sort of training program where they dance and train everyday. That means they most likely have pointe class everyday and teachers to help train them and hone their skills. Outside of class they probably stretch and strengthen on their own. All of them shown are steady on their feet and that shows that they have the proper strength to go on pointe. Some may also be twelve, because they might’ve had birthdays after YAGP registration.
Such elegance. I can't even imagine the time and work each one has done.
Everyone is good and beautiful!
5:12 his costume tho
Mostly for those of you critiquing the dancers, #1 just remember, They Are Real People; #2 learn the variations (see if maybe that coupe should be crossed O.o); #3 I dare you to try to get that good, instead of hiding behind a computer screen whining about various placings, who does which variations, etc.
You should be celebrating how beautifully these people danced and how hard they worked to get where they are now, not pointing out little mistakes that they are probably still beating themselves up about.
People a lot more experienced and knowledgeable than I'm assuming the majority of you, placed these dancers.
And last but not least, yes, I have done most of these variations, but I guess I'll leave it to you to decide what was a mistake and what wasn't since "youtube viewers" are judge and jury.
Feel free to comment/reply but know I won't be reading or responding, I actually have a life.
I love your comment sense. I know you won't be responding tho O_O
