    Can you use acrylic paint for normal painting?
    Do you need to use sanding resin? Can you use west system epoxy throughout?

    • @BendheimBoards
      @BendheimBoards  Před 2 lety

      yes any acrylic or water based paint can be used. This specific board is a poly board, so polyester resin is needed. Epoxy could be used if you don't have poly resin, but not ideal. Match whatever resin the board was made with.

    • @BendheimBoards
      @BendheimBoards  Před 2 lety

      The surfboard will continue to yellow so its up to you if you want to try and color match or just have the ding repair be white. But you would just have to play around with different yellow and white colors to get the mix your looking for.

    Hi tanner, have been watching your videos for some time and try to apply the learnings from them to my projects - you‘re a really great help, thank you for that !
    In one video in which you‘re showing us the repair of the red & black colored surfbord you apply the color after the seal coat. In the current video you match / apply the color even before you‘re applying the fiberglass patches. Where does this difference come from? Which process do you recomend in future or for what do we have to look after when we try to repair a ding like that?
    Looking forward to hearing from you & greetings from switzerland
    Ricky

    • @BendheimBoards
      @BendheimBoards  Před 3 lety +2

      Good catch, glad your able to notice. Do the color match before lamination as shown in this video. That way the color is better protected under the fiberglass and you won’t accidentally sand into it. I should have done the same in the previous repair and fixed that step on this one.

  • @trailswithtyler7427

    Hey Tanner. I found a video where you painted a surf board. My plan is to repeat the same process but on a skimboard. My plan right now is to tape off the sections I don’t want painted (the bottom) and then to wipe down the board with a rag with some acetone on it. Next I would sand down the sections I would paint with 220 grit sand paper and then paint it with Liquitex Professional Spray Paint. I would then let it dry and then spray over it with Krylon UV Resistant Clear Acrylic Coating. Then I would put my pads on it. It seems that everyone thinks it’s a bad idea to do this but it seems to work on surf boards which I thought where the same material. What’s your opinion on this. Thanks.
    P.s. the board I’m planning on doing this on is a medium zap wedge.

    • @PwnTheCodFish
      @PwnTheCodFish Před 3 lety

      it would work fine for the top of the skimboard but not so much for the bottom under constant use, because your sliding on sand half the time. you'd have to encase the paint in fiberglass and resin or else it would easily scrape away with just clear coat

I'm in a bit of a predicament, is like to make an old board look new again would it be best to tint a hot coat or use one of my autobody guns and spray it then top coat? Your channel is very helpful, thank you for taking the time to make these videos 🤙🤙

    • @BendheimBoards
      @BendheimBoards  Před 2 lety +1

      You can try either but it can be very difficult to color match your resins. Spray might be the safe bet but either works. As long as it’s water based paint your good

    Ehi man! You are a magician! Congratulate for your job!
    During the process you use differents resin (normal, laminating and sanding). I just have normal resin. Could i do dings or a surfboards with this or are necessary each kind?
    Thanx!

    • @BendheimBoards
      @BendheimBoards  Před 2 lety +1

      For polyester resin, you just need laminating resin. To make it sandable, you add a wax solution which makes it sanding resin (hot coat). The gloss resin also has wax and a thinning agent added. For a ding repair you could only use laminating resin, it will just be more difficult to sand and gum up on your sandpaper more.

    Question, I’m using sanding resin. Do I sand the fiberglass cloth patch flush to the board? If I do that I see a lot of weave and it seems like that defeats the purpose? Wondering how to get flat.

    • @BendheimBoards
      @BendheimBoards  Před 2 lety

      Prior to adding the fiberglass, your repair area should be concave and below the level of the board so when you add the fiberglass and then hot coat, it will build it back up to the level of the board and sand flat. It doesn't have to be perfect, just as long as its water tight.
