Fun to drive, technically sophisticated, and, in most versions at least, drop-dead gorgeous to look at, the Giulietta represents Italy's incredible post-war renaissance better than perhaps anything else. Revered by collectors since the 1980s, the story of the Giulietta has been very well-documented, but I bet you didn't know these five little factoids about it: sit back and enjoy.

Thank you very much for your appreciation. Producing a longer-form video, maybe a 30-min documentary is indeed one of my aspirations. But this channel is a one-man band, and showing up every week would be impossible if I made 15-30 minutes videos. But I'll make a documentary, one day.

Being in the AROC, St Louis, I get to see some beautiful Alfa's one guy has a Sprint Speciale, absolutely gorgeous in person, Red with black interior. I don't get to close to it because I'm afraid of drooling on it! But I'm happy with my 1986 spider veloce! Cheers!

A Spider like yours is my dream car, the Alfa I want as a gift to myself sooner or later. But yes, the Giulietta SS is a sculpture, a car that must be incredibly satisfying to wash by hand, with all those curves...

I thought you could not surprise me anymore with facts on the Giulietta, but wow, you did!
Never knew about the facelift proposal by Bertone! Happy they did not continue that though….
And the name Diruttore for the air spoiler on the SS was also new for me.
    Keep up the good work!!

I was so in love with the Giulietta, and above all with the Sprint since I was a little lkid.
So that I tried to buy one when I got my driving license in 1980, at 18 years old.
But I was a student and Sprint was starting to interest collectors and, even though it was still cheap, I didn't get there on my own with the summer jobs, and my father was against me in the he acquired what he considered to be a dangerously unreliable decrepit sports car.
I managed to buy my first Alfa in 1983, a '69 GtJ super exploited by an elderly man who stopped driving:
it cost only 500,000 lire (like 300 euros), the price that the scrapyard gave him; but he loved his GTJ and he was waiting for me giving me 2 boxes of spare parts, 8 tires and a full tank of petrol, haha!
I still have today that GtJ

That's a great story. It seems incredible that the classic Alfas we love so much once were just scrap... But that's how things were. So cool that you've managed to keep your GTj all these years, well done!

The proposed facelift is one rare case where the required changes for the US market would've improved it - the square headlights would've been illegal so a version with four round ones would've been needed right off, and probably would've filtered over to the European-market models.

    • @Matteo_Licata
      @Matteo_Licata  Před 2 lety +1

@@Matteo_Licata he sold it in the 70s and bought a Austin healy Le mans. He had plenty cars over those years especially Alfa. While he was studying that time he had his own mechanic shop and worked on people's Ferrari and Alfa. He was very well known that time.
This Giulieta of his he modified it to give peak performance. He meticulously spent the most time on the cylinder head gas flowing it. And cut the cams. The Webers he jetted it to the best they could be. The car could Rev up to 9000. The crank and flywheel was also balanced and lightened. He coul get max speed of 150mph out of it leaving all the American big V8 behind in those days.
I know his Austin healy is in the Rupert museum now in Cape Town as it was bought by them 2 owner after and it was restored to original as that specific car the LE MANS was very scarce
