BEAR COUNTRY Camping ALONE in a BEAR TENT

  • I love looking for new places to camp. In this video, I go deep into bear country for an overnighter in my bear tent with an electric bear fence. Luckily I wasn't eaten. This is called a bear tent by RBM Outdoors. It's just a name. No magic bear proof materials.
The jaylegere discount code is discontinued.

How much experience do I have?
That depends. I am pretty good at starting a fire these days and gathering wood. But I don't really have true bushcraft skills and definitely no carpentry or construction skills or training. I could probably make a shelter if I had to, but that would just come from all the CZcams training (watching) over the years.

You can easily tell the difference between black bear scat and grizzly bear scat. Black bear scat has berries and sticks and the like in it and grizzly scat has bits of flannel and smells like pepper spray

Never had the pleasure of an invisible bear fence, but I know from experience that urinating, or marking the area does not work----- A hungry bear knowing there's humans around, will wait till dark and use stealth to try and get your food----- We've heard bears walk by our tent at night, sniffing loudly, and have had a few come into our tent while we were out fishing--- Never leave anything edible in the tent-- That includes toothpaste!!!!

Who else thought a Bear was going to come up behind him while he was eating his sandwich. Not sure that tent would even stop a Rabid Chipmunk let alone a several hundred pound Bear. The tape is there to remind you not to walk into the fence the Bear is coming for your food he doesn't care about some tape. If you have a good white pine to hang your food, or even in a food storage locker in Alaska, try to minimize the time you have food out, cooking time, and clean up afterwards--- Avoid wiping your hands on your pants, and keep them washed---- Bears want food, not us!!!

I was going out one day with my air rifle, and came across this "thin wired fence" that had at its corner what looked like a Curling Stone (game played on ice by sliding marble stones closest to target circle, Canadians and Scottish folk will understand. So I gets ready to cross "this silly looking wee fence" Put hand bang right on top wire, never saw a bottom wire, so was a bit perplexed as to "why a one wire fence?" I soon found out. I placed my full hand on it and gripped it ready ro pull other leg over it when I suddenly got this sensation (if you don't know, never experienced this before, it's how I cross a fence, or obstacle) Couple of seconds in I'm getting this strange feeling in my arm that's holding wire. Next thing I'm on other side very sore and "waking up" Yes weird alright!?" I still don't realise qhats went on. So I get up, look at this wire fence, remember only the one wire and I think "did this metal wire have something to do with me waking up unglued ad ti what just or at somepoint had happened, I touch it again, this time with flat fingertips. That's when I realised it was an electrical fence was only, about waist height. So this te I o lying get a small dock, but I'm shocked to say the least. I was miles away from anything valuable and no cows in field, but the shock is not nice. Unconscious! Then to wonder and touch it warily a second time. Someone told me "Yeah they only give out 12 volts. I've been shocked by household sockets in Scotland and theyrev240 volts, but this fence and its allegedly small voltage, 12, I thought I was wrong g. How can home electricity blow you across the room, but these electrical fences sound likebnothing, but do some painful damage. Not long lasting, the fright lasts longer. Those pink and green labels aren't to attract a cow to check it out, it's ro show You where exactly your fence is. Ciws hear that electric buzz too, and have built in "stay away from that" Us? We're thick as two door planks and will try anything for a shortcut. Pardon the pun there, only just found it, quote a funny one, but u intended. See a one/two small wire fence, tread very carefully all round it, if you see the charger. Climb over without your skin touching. Easier said than done. I've encountered a few now, and see that at some stages in its length that it has rubber hand grips for us idiots not to get stuck or thrown on your backside by then. I'd never take one camping. A fishing line with some cans threaded through does same job..Noise? You'll hear it.

Lorne Elliott, the host of the CBC Radio comedy show Madly Off in All Directions once said that "The mosquitoes in Canada's north are so big they can stand flatfooted and bugger a moose". Although it appears the mosquitoes that were bothering you were nowhere near that big, which is a good thing!

The D cells only charge some big capacitors, as long as the capacitors don't release their charge the battery loss is low. The little red tapes are not for the bear to smell, they are for humans to see lol ! Also you should get an electric bug zapper, the larger ones with single grill, not those small multi grill designs, they will clear a tent in a minute cause you can get the mosquitoes from any angle really

Jay, so you are not a gun guy and that's ok. But on the other hand, buy yourself a single shot shotgun, a few 5 shot boxes is all you need, slugs/buckshot/bird shot and non-lethal. The non-lethal can scare away one with no real harm. Cost is cheap.
