Unfortunately Data science/machine learning is a small world and is only available to a select few companies. This field has been so hyped up during the past decade that it has over saturated the market. Recruiters have raised the bar so high that only the best of the best will get the job. They tend to prefer PhD with 5+ years of experience. For an aspiring data scientist or beginner, this is harsh reality!

I will agree to the point of bar being raised but we also should understand industry is maturing hence it will demand for real talents. Does it mean no place of newcomers? I think this is not right, as in my experience I am seeing many new entries in the field. Also new age AI jobs offer more to choose from.

@dees900: Absolutely agree with you . I have 2.4 yoe as a Data Scientist and mostly my colleagues including me facing the same issue .most of the jobs require 5+ yrs and after that 3+ yrs and there are very few job openings for 2+ years. Data Science market has flooded and the saturation has come
