- Last week on the day that Tanner left for Australia, we had REALLY fun waves at our amazing little beach break, Salt Creek. It started off with the tide being a bit too low as expected, and then as the morning went on got better and better. Press play and enjoy the vlog!

Seeing the surfer get tripped up by Luke was therapeutic if I'm being honest. I don't surf out there often, but nearly every time I do, there's at least one entitled surfer who decides to drop in on me on a good one when I'm in position and have been waiting patiently. I usually try to make the same maneuver (or pull their leash), but even when it works, it's still a bummer being treated with such disrespect, and ultimately the wave is still ruined because I can't just focus on getting barreled.
Usually, I'll approach them afterward, calmly explain what it feels like to be treated that way and why I did that, then ask them if they think they're more deserving of waves. They always back down at that point though they'll offer some excuse like "this is just how it's always been." California surfer egos are out of control!
The last session I had out there, I was perfectly positioned for a very nice left. Some surfer inside of me decides he's going right, I don't back off, and he has to pull out at the last second while I get hung up because he's in my way. He ends up furious despite the fact that there literally wasn't even a right. One of the better waves of the day ended up getting completely wasted. I have to assume he was just a regular foot that had a mental block for lefts because it wasn't even close to being close which direction had an actual wave. So frustrating to be disrespected and then made out to be the bad guy. Can't we all just get along?
