How To Rehouse A Guitar Pedal (Danelectro Fab Chorus)

  • In this video I'm making another guitar pedal from the five old lolly tins I found recently. I bought a secondhand Danelectro Fab Chorus pedal very cheaply. It was like new. Originally I was going to just use the effect board and make my own input buffer, as I did with the Fab Distortion pedal. But after some testing, I decided to reuse the original buffer/bypass board after all.

Watched the distortion and chorus vids. Stella work. I have bothe of those pedals (although it's my chorus that is older and the distortion I bought new) I've long wanted to rehouse them along with my Behringer pedals. Now I've seen you're video I'll give it a go. On the subject of a 5 pedal board, you have to have a delay and a verb. That only leaves one space, Trem? You could go for a combined delay and verb pedal. Then you have the option of fuzz or od.

Fun seeing this video popping in my recommended feed, I am in the process of rehousing the Wasabi AD-1 Forward Reverse Delay

Nice one. Good luck with the project!

Great mods as usual Rob:) Would be interesting to see an envelope filter on the board.

That's a good call. If it was a pedal board for bass, then for sure. I just picked up this rusty old sewing machine foot pedal thing, and I think it would make a great looking wah. So there may be a 6th on this board!...

I want to get a StewMac DIY phaser and put it into a Boss pedal Housing (I have OCD and only collect Boss pedals or Boss clones). Picked up a beat up DS-1 for $20 at the pawn shop, may take it apart and use that housing (custom paint job, of course!). 🤔

I could make you some custom knobs matching the lollies from each tin?

I love the knobs on this one! A little bit of powdered sugar could be added 😂

Yeah, they kind of match the cherries in the artwork. I think they'll stay... :)

@@RobMods It would be cool to make some candy shaped knobs out of epoxy for future "tin" builds

@@rockstarimotski It's funny... I actually do have "knob casting" as an old entry on my (huge!) list of crazy future YT vid ideas. Maybe I'll give it a shot for one of these lolly tin builds...

Thanks. I’d love to see a rehousing tutorial on the Danelectro food series. Those pedals need it.

I agree. I think those pedals look like furbies. 😁

Hello there I was wondering if you can help me I have been trying to find online that annoying little screw in the fab metal pedal on the bottom of the pedal any chance you can send me the correct link to buy it driving me crazy😢

Hi mate. I just had a look at my old casing, and the plastic screw has an M6 thread and goes about 5mm beyond the plate. I doubt an M6 thumb screw would fit, but just a regular pan head would work if you are happy to use a screwdriver. Also I doubt you'll find an M6 bolt that is as short as 5 or 6mm, so you'll probably have to cut one down. Good luck!

With this enclosure, the 5th pedal has to be a fuzz face clone.

@Rob Mods. Why do you do it? Because you can. I build and rehouse a lot of gear. I find some great old industrial and ex medical enclosures. They look great. They go from being bargain bin fx to boutique, nice to own objects
