quadrogong@gmail.com I review “affordable” guitars and effects & I’ve tried almost all of them..
This brand stands out from the crowd.. They both arrived completely set up !
and needed zero setup work! I’ve reviewed 20-25 budget guitars like this, all from Amazon..
and these were the most reliable, and needed no setup work, just new strings..that’s it.
I’ve had one or two good teles, but as for Les Paul and Strat copies, these two take the number one spot.
..and I’ve reviewed a lot of them.
Why is GROTE GUITARS the KING of the “affordable” Gibson & Fender copies?
The feel, for one.they feel soulful, legit..
I have plenty of high end guitars, and the main things that sets them apart from the budget stuff…
..is the overall feel, the tone..and the overall reliability.
I’m not even a fan of the Gibson Les Paul Studio models, which sell for over a thousand dollars.. the feel of the necks always felt cheap to me.
But this inexpensive, $189 Les Paul and this $69 Strat copy from China.. they feel nice, and stay in tune.. I even liked the pickups.
There’s a difference between the pickups on my Gibsons, but the Grotes SOUND authentic, they sound like the real deal..
    and they feel right…
GROTE offers a money back guarantee, so take a risk..if u don’t love it,get your money back !
Amazon is great for that, print a label, send it back..
    Try a Grote..
    thank me later..
I’m still dying to try the GROTE semi hollow 335 style guitar, which is what originally attracted me to the company,
I’ve on,y owned one 335, I had a 1967 Gibson Es-335 in sparkling burgundy.. but it was over 30 years ago, I regret selling it off..
My next GROTE will be the semi hollow. I’m really curious, the reviews are So good.

Hi, I liked your video and appreciate the time put into helping the guitar community, never the less in fairness, I feel I should share my experience with Grote to those considering buying 1and I'm not saying to buy or not buy. I bought the exact same strat you show in your video from Amazon & I should have sent it back but it was not a lot of money & I had just started collecting. I was happy it had a tremolo until I tried to set it up. It was essentially a hardtail as someone screwed the 3 springs a good 2 I/2 inches in to the body (essentially a hard tail). So much tension in fact that after I removed a spring and set the trem up to where it worked I saw that the neck was damaged as a result. It has a literal wave going the length of the neck and the obvious 2 questions are why & where is quality control ! I've spent far to much time since then & will not buy a neck for that guitar so I am going to open tune it and try it out as a slide guitar. I now have 14 guitars, 2 IYV neck thru's, 2 Epiphone inspired by Gibson 61 remakes + an Epi Les Paul 100. Finally I have a Firefly Les Paul, a 335 copy and another IYV Tele semi hollow with P90's & 2 Monoprice stats (1 with a HB in the bridge and a Squire CV 1970 Stratocaster from Indonesia. Almost forgot-a Bad Cat Telecaster with Alnico V's(as good as the CV ). A have a Monoprice 15 watt tube amp with budget pedals, all revealed to show that I am Joe Budget guitar and am like so many who want to get better and grow there collection to sample all the great gear that is now available unlike in the 60's when I learned songs off a turntable turned down to 33 and a third. I do hope the people who assembled my guitar never work for Grote again, or ant other guitar manufacturer. Jimmy Stewart has a lot of Grote's so I may try again, they sure do look good !

I have the Grote 335 and played 2 epiphone 335s and a Gretch that was the same style. My Grote feels way more comfortable to play. I love the neck on it. The only thing that disappointed me was some of the fret leveling was off. But I've been slowly making adjustments.

They’re an old brand, they’ve learned how to give you bang for the buck..they cut corners in places that are cosmetic, like photo flame tops, but they always use good wood, and if you order a new model, you know it has t been in the warehouse long enough to have fret sprout, I’ve been lucky,I’ve gotten three Grotes, and one arrived with a broken neck, UPS just broke the neck in half. I sent them a photo of it, and the box.. and they told me to keep it,and they sent me another one.fast, with zero questions. I also got their new Redid SG, they just released. The pickups sound so Gibson like it’s great, bound neck, mahogany set neck SG
for so little $ czcams.com/video/gxBVSgwTKfM/video.html I was sad the green one was sold out,I got the red.

Great review of the guitar, and the company! I am really thinking of pulling the trigger on one of these (though it would be difficult to choose a color because I like them all though the purple does certainly pop!). I have recently purchased the Grote "335" and have been blown away by how much of a quality product it is (I did a video review of it I liked it so much) for the low, low cost. I am curious; have you had any long-term issues with yours?

I have a DeArmond "somewhat Les Paul" and I have an Epiphone Les Paul Ultra. My taste is for the sound of Gretsch, and I have three of them. The DeArmond is a brick, or maybe four or five of them, it's heavy. The Epi, I've had for maybe twelve years, and it has maybe one hour playing time on it. The neck of the DeArmond is wide and flat, which I like a lot. The neck on the Epi, I'm no fan of how skinny it is. BUT. Neither of the LPs will give me anything like a playable sound and I don't like distortion of any kind. Not that it matters, my hands gave up about twenty years ago. But I still like owning them, even those I consider worse that the Walmart First Act. When I try to play now, it's a Gretsch. I get the tone out of them I want.

So far I’ve had nothing but good luck w customer service, u can email them and ask them if they think Amazon is quicker..

I purchased Grote LP. Beautiful , came flawless appearance. The pickups, tuners bridge and saddle all good. The fret board is really hard and dark like ebony wood, fret work nicely done. The nut appears to be real bone. The setup wasn't good at all, had adjust the truss rod, set the string height, new strings. The intonation wasn't close at all. After the setup, this is a great quitar. This guitar has great bones, you can leave the hardware as it is.

@@quadrogong1111 Thanks for that. Strange that they have just recently come onto my radar. Their 335 style model is what I first saw. It seems to have some neck dive according to some reviews, but perhaps no worse than a "real" 335?

Pretty awesome with the exception of a few high fret spots on the high E side. Just wondering if this is to be expected, or if I got one that was off? Did you have to do any spot leveling at all? Thanks!

The Grote I bought from Amazon was a little disappointing (Thinline style Tele). The tuner screws holding tuners to neck had 2 of them totally rounded where Philips screwdriver head fits…
    Looked like screw gun install.
Pickups were bland and just not fun guitar.
    Glad you enjoy yours.

I had good luck w them, the pickups weren’t anything amazing, but they were bright, and okay..there wasn’t a huge contrast between tones in the different positions,on the Strat, but in all it sounds like a Strat
haven’t tried the tele yet, but I was very happy w both my Grotes, I’ve tried a few budget thinlines, the Glarry has a huge baseball bat neck,I’d avoid it. But hey,Amazon, money back guarantee.. roll the bones & try again ! Thanks for the feedback, good to know..

  • @Happyland_Motel_Gamer_Cat

I was thinking about getting a Les Paul from China, but the thing is i have never played a guitar before and I am just scared i will find it to hard to learn. What do you think Kevin?

    • @quadrogong1111
      @quadrogong1111  Před 2 lety +3

Well, it’s much easier than learning acoustic, an electric guitar has a thin neck, and smaller spacing between strings, plus it requires much less effort to fret the notes than an acoustic.
If u learn to tune it up, and get some simple chord charts, (like these)www.libertyparkmusic.com/read-guitar-chord-diagrams/
      (open E , A, , D, G, E minor, A minor) that’s all Elvis knew, he tons of played concerts like that..
they’re basically three dots arranged in a geometric shape,
once u learn 3 or 4 of those, you’re playing music.. I think it’s fairly easy to learn the basic open chords, and those are the ones that sound best for rock, punk, new wave, etc
Some of these guitars come with an amp, cable, pick, electric tuner, and soft case.. that’s basically all you need.
I’d say go for it, u can always sell off a $199 Les Paul for $160 on Craig’s list if u lose interest,
Or.. you’ll start getting good at it, and really into it, worst case scenario u have a cool guitar in your room, u can always come back to it at a later date, only you’ll know if you’re motivated or not, but it’s not that hard.. violin, cello, flute,trumpet,piano..that’s hard.
      Guitar? Not hard.
