- How to replace your door lock actuator!
Simple process to do! Only unique tool here would be Torx sockets or keys and a bit of patience!
Somewhat of a common problem for the Holden Commodore, 3 out of 4 doors lock and begins messing with you after that, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't!
This video will guide you through the process on how to remove and replace your door lock actuator! :)

Another very helpful video and well documented, too. Might be worth nothing that if you're not too fussed on the plastic, you can just cut out the hole you need access to.

the plastic is there to protect the inside from rain and moisture. do not cut a hole unless you're going to patch it back

Thanks for the video mate. Helped me remember, there are always THREE rods to the actuator mechanism. I had to take out the door panel twice over to allow the outside door-handle rod to connect to the top push eyelet, which I thought was a design flaw. Just a few pointers I had issues with - 1. careful lifting the door panel once all the screws have been removed as there is an air-manifold to the aircon duct that can easily break due to the plastic tab to the window corner. Lift this corner air-duct out first before lifting the door-panel. 2. Have someone catch the door-handle lever pin as it can fly out and it can be re-used unlike holden manual. 3. when putting back the door panel, start from the top aligned with the window seal. but push it in about 1/2 inch and make sure the door-panel slide lever is engaged with the door scoop (a little upright scoop looking metal guide), and then push it all the way down. Make sure everything is snug up against the door, before applying the screws.

Thanks for the video. I see some videos where the actuator is replaced and some videos (like yours) where the entire mechanism is replaced.
In my case the passenger door lock doesn’t unlock a third of the time and you can’t pull the knob up either, it’s stuck. I’m trying to figure out if I should replace the actuator or the whole thing.

Thank you! I ended up being able to repair mine. Only thing I forgot was the rod that connects to the top inside of the door. Not bad for a chick who usually wears an apron.

This is only good for left front door right hand is different
I keep having problems with my drivers door actuator now I’ve replaced the old one with a new gm one and now it playing up again and won’t unlock or lock remotely but when I do it by the actual door button it locks and locks all the other doors can’t figure out why a brand new actuator would be doing this
I've heard new ones can be faulty right out the gate, you might be able to get another new one in exchange for you old one and hope the next new one is operational :)

@@ecotecace7855 the locking mech itself? Or the actuator? Dealing with this BS atm with my second new actuator in the past 18 months
The actuator itself. I've found them to be hit and miss, I haven't had any issues after replacing mine but I can't say the same for my mates car who has replaced his a few times, all with new ones too 🤷🏼
@@ecotecace7855 update on mine, the actuator was sitting super low & I adjusted the screws upwards… the lock itself didn’t have a drop of greaSe/oil/lubricant on… so I fixed both those things and it seems much better

Any tips to get the outside door handle rod to work properly. Mine is stuck closed
Not too sure unfortunately, maybe give it a good yank? Could possibly just be stuck in position
Have you changed a actuator only from a rear door and are they different from the front?
Haven't done a rear door one yet, but from what I can see, the actuators themselves look very similar but I could be wrong 🤔
@@ecotecace7855 my rear actuatorif you remove the rubber boot the white piece where the rod goes through can clip/slide off. I,m assuming on the front actuator the white piece would be removable too.
I’ve got a problem with my vy commodore 2003 model the door lock knob is stuck down on the drivers door but the door is unlocked and won’t lock with the key ect
That's not ideal! I'd say the rod that the knob sits on is stuck in the lock position but maybe not all the way if it's still unlocked? May have to play around with the actuator or force the rod back up 🤔

Slightly different procedure, door trim removal is different on VS to VY but actuator is somewhat similar :)
How do i go about doing this if i cant open the door? Locked the car this morning at work, now i cant unlock the drivers door.
Maybe you could try with the key in the door barrel and see if that works. If not, you might have to climb through from the passenger side, remove the door lock knob (with red button) and pull the lock rod up with pliers :)
Got it sorted. Just had to turn the key in the door really hard and beat the shit out of the door where it latches and it unlocked. Seems to be working again now.
