It was the same in Switzerland and Germany from the beginning of May, a NE wind which has really hampered the fishing. The Mayfly hatch in Bavaria started in late May but fishing was only really possible from 1800 onwards in the evening.

I was in Ardfinnan last night until 9.15 and hardly a fish rising and it's usually a good spot. I did manage a hook a good fish but lost it after a few minutes.

I agree very strange weather patterns all over the UK aswell. I also used the term patchy when explaining this season.
Excellent video as always if I could give it two 👍 I would.

Hello George the last time I commented a month ago it was about that relentless wind direction! As well as all that rain and now it's nearly drought conditions over here it's truly a depressing picture!

Improvise adapt and overcome, my river seems the same with the hatch.. but have noticed massive amounts of crawfish.. throwing a crawfish streamer might be worth a try.

Here in the eastern US (mid-Atlantic states of Maryland and Pennsylvania), we had virtually no measurable rain in the month of May (and very little in April as well). There is, at this point, no end in sight to the ongoing drought conditions. Our water temperatures, as a result of low flows in the local streams, have risen to the level where trout fishing season may have come to an early end until autumn.
Do stream temperatures in Ireland tend to stay cold enough through the summer to allow trout fishing?

Currently yes, due to the cold airflow, however last year the fishery authorities introduced an advisory ban due to very low water and high temperataures.

Wow ..things were in normslly not predictable here in thé north east united states ,no Hendrickson's no quill Gordon's in april. The blue quills were sporadic.april till now , normally the evening rise is on ,but no sulphers no green drakes a few caddis hatches ,blue wing olives and the rusty spinner is what has been bringing up fish we are in a server drought low low water fishing almost a 20 foot leader and 6 or 7x tippet
