    The Black Thorn durian that have the Department of Agriculture registration number D200, have won many prizes since 2011. Now, is the world famous champion durian. It is same par with Musang King durian. Both have their own specialty. The first generation of this durian was used the seed from Thailand. Therefore, it has a strong Thailand durian outlook. However, there is no similiar durian in Thailand. Then, this durian has named as ‘Black Thorn’.
    ‘黑刺’榴莲农业部注册编号D200,在2011年起夺奖无数,目前已是闻名世界的冠军榴莲,与‘猫山王’榴莲齐名,各有千秋。此榴莲第一代是用泰国榴莲种籽种植在威南双溪峇甲的附近,所以其外型还带着浓浓泰国榴莲的样子。但是,泰国是没有这个榴莲,才命名为新品种‘黑刺’。
    Mr Leow Cheok Kiang is the person who brought unknown ‘Black Thorn’ to become the famous champion durian. The Black Thorn trees in his orchards are considered third generation. Mr Leow’s orchards are mainly located at Seberangn Perai Selatan and Southern Kedah - Kedah Junjong, Nibong Tebal Relau and Sungai Baong.
    廖石乾先生是把这个从前默默无名的‘黑刺’榴莲带红到成为冠军榴莲,他的黑刺榴莲树已经是属于第三代了,他的园都是集中在威南和吉南交接处 - 吉打三巴央、高渊的乐劳和双溪堡。
    Many people said Black Thorn is named because it has a “black colour thorn” at the husk bottom. If you are visiting to a durian orchard, take a look that almost every durian has this “black colour thorn”. In fact, it is a dried pistil. Actually, they called the first mother tree as ‘Black Thorn’, not the durian but the tree. After sometimes, it became to call this durian as ‘Black Thorn’ until today. Of course, you cannot find any black colour thorn on this durian.
    很多人都说黑刺是壳底带着一根黑刺,如果您去到榴莲园注意看一下,差不多每一种榴莲都是有这根黑刺,这个是干枯的花蕊。其实是他们称呼那棵第一棵母树为黑刺,是树不是榴莲,后来就演变成了今天黑刺榴莲名。当然,您也不可能在其身上找到任何黑色的刺。
    It takes more than 100 days from the flowering to fully ripe and drop. Black Thorn outer shape characteristic is round. Every compartment looks like a “pregnant woman” shape. It seen like a pumpkin. The middle of the bottom is concaved. Sometimes, you can see that ‘black thorn’. The stem is about a thumb long. The stem is very easy broken from the fruit because the fruit is too heavy. When you are lifting the Black Thorn durian, please be reminded to hold from the bottom. This is to avoid the stem breaks from the fruit.
    黑刺从开花到成熟掉落需一百多天。黑刺的外型特征是浑圆、每个隔间好像大肚婆突出,好像南瓜一样。底部中心凹进,当然有时您会看到所谓的‘黑刺’。枝柄大约一根拇指长度,很容易脱落因为果实太重。所以记得拿黑刺榴莲时,要托住榴莲的下方,以防枝柄脱落。
    Black Thorn durian flesh is orange in colour. You can differential the tree age from the colour. The young tree is a light orange to the old tree with dark orange carrying dark colour. The flesh is very thick. When we are tasting, we can have a big bite. Then, our mouth will full of the durian flesh. Or you can bite a small hole on its membrane, then suck the flesh slowly. Both are different kind of the tasting. Black Thorn is sweet coming first before the bitter taste. The bitter taste is a bit slow to pop up. Therefore, do not swallow fast. Otherwise, you will think that Black Thorn is only sweet. Hold and let the taste running on your tongue. The taste is very strong, bitter sweet, carrying some wine taste. The old tree is very sticky. Most people like it. Generally, the seeds are big size.
    黑刺的果肉是橙色的,可以从它的颜色分辨树龄,从年轻树的淡橙色到顶级老树的深橙带黑色。它的果肉是非常厚实的,在品尝时,我们可以大口一咬,满口爆浆,或在膜上咬一小口,然后慢慢吸吮,这是两种不同的品尝。黑刺是先甜后苦的,它的苦味比较慢来,所以不要一口吞下去,不然就以为黑刺只是甜而已。把果肉含住,让它的味道在您的舌头上跑。它的味道是非常浓郁的,甜中带苦,带有丝丝酒味,老树是很黏的,非常讨喜。一般上核子都是偏大的。
    When we want to buy the Black Thorn, we still have to go back to Jawi, Nibong Tebal to get it. This is because the Black Thorn durians in his orchards are very old tree. If you buy at other places, mostly are light orange young tree. It will not as tasty as the old tree. This is the reason why we have to go to the mother tree area to buy that durian. Generally, the durian trees are the oldest in that area, or the durian trees are older than other places. The old tree durians are the most delicious.
    在购买黑刺时,我们还是要回去威南的爪夷买,因为他的园的黑刺很多都是老树了,如果您在其他地方买,很多都浅橙色年轻树,不会好吃的。这是为什么我们一定要去母树的地区买榴莲,一般上那边的榴莲树是最老的,或那个地区的树一般都比别的地方老,老树榴莲才会好吃的。

    Bro Hooi,我又来也。你的这个黑刺引诱得我口水流满地,还那么大个的黑刺。记得前年我在槟城中路,Red Rock Hotel对面附近某榴莲摊每kg RM90++,花费$200++吃了一个黑刺,capli和坤宝售价才$30+。意犹未尽后来又在balik pulau再来一个,还好浮罗山背的黑刺没那么贵。每kg也要RM$80+.。味道确实美味,售价也确实更令人忘不了。
    记得去年有位美媚,花费千元马币买3个特大黑刺,吃过后觉得做了冤大头被人砍了菜头,到衙门吿到官里去。闹得槟城整个榴莲业界一时满城风雨,恐怕连清官和包公也难断定谁是谁非,一时也难说得清。Bro Hooi你今年真有口福,昨天在CZcams视频中看到说由于少了游客和外销,槟城这一季的榴莲售价大跌,在浮罗山背某榴莲摊黑刺每kg才卖$40--50。

      谢谢你的支持,如果你在Lorong Susu Ah Teik买的,他的黑刺一般都是爪夷的,和我这一粒同样来源。浮罗的黑刺最少要落后15年,一般不会黑的,比较浅橙色的。吃黑刺是要问好价钱的,不然随时一粒黑刺榴莲RM300。这粒不大,准准2kg,有的去到4kg+,要价RM200+,不买。吃黑刺会吃到心痛,太贵了,哈哈...

      ong cheok beng 其实榴梿没有一线、二线的,是依个人口味喜好,任何冠军榴梿都是甘榜榴梿出身。😀 如果您找到老树榴梿,就算无名,都与黑刺不相上下或有过之无不及。站在果农一面,都是偏向种高价、大种、耐病、高产的果树,给他们带来更大的利益。我是到处吃榴梿,好像寻宝一样,你找到了你喜欢又合理价钱的榴梿那份喜悦是不言而喻的。像蔡澜所言的,我们要吃得聪明。😀

      Is a basic theory demand and supply. The export is increasing the demand of the durians and the supply is limited. Definitely the price will go up. As a local consumer, we have to pay higher price to buy the durians. As the suppliers, they will earn more monies.

      @@Batman-R7644 When it is exporting, have to include the freight cost, customs clearance, middleman profit, license, frozen packing, defects and etc. RMB300 is about MYR180. Just like you courier a document to China. The courier cost is very high. It is not surprise at this pricing to reach the buyers in China.

      和上海比太便宜了,我一定要来槟城。今年吃了40多个泰国金枕和5个猫山王,花了超过10000人民币😭

      找对地方,榴莲还是在可接受的价格,现在榴莲已不便宜了。去到上海,运输费、工厂冻结费用和中间人佣金(应该不止一个)加进去就价格非凡了。

      Durian Hooi 是的,上海猫山王的价格大约在80-100人民币每斤(500克)黑刺就更不用说了。吃的比较多的还是泰国金枕,毕竟价格亲民多了,大约20-30人民币每斤,但是味道差猫山王太多了。从未去过槟城,等疫情结束一定来玩。请教一下槟城榴莲季是何时?

      @@user-dt8fz6fe5i 我们这边是以公斤(2斤)计算,那边的价格是我们这边的一倍多,猫山王大概在MYR45/kg左右(人民币75/公斤)。榴莲季节每一年都不同,要看年头开花才能知道,一般都是在6月左右。但是今年特别早,4月头就开始了。等明年开花了我会拍视频放上来,预测在农历新年左右,一般花期是90-120天,每种榴莲不同。

    sir, may i know what's the most ideal weight for Black Thorn durian? and how do we actually choose a deep darker coloured flesh like the one u had? any particular characteristics or smell that i should look for? thank you

      If you want all the compartments have the flesh, the ideal weight should be at about 2.5 - 3.2kgs. None of the compartments has been "eaten". The deep darker coloured flesh u have to smell the strong fragrance on the fruits. It is subject to the timing and the old tree fruits. Not all have it.

      i've had BT durian 3 times before, one from Johor, the other from Pahang and the last one was from Kulim. and i must say i wasnt so impressed with the flavour and taste. i suspect those BT durians came from younger trees as the colours of flesh werent as deep and impressive as yours. guess i have to make a trip to Jawi next season myself to get the real deal

      i have yet to find any durian that can match the flavour complexity of an old tree Tekka durian. Tekka for me still reigns supreme on my list together with D17 of Pontian, Kasap Merah of Segamat, Red Prawn, Green Skin 15, Capri and Tian Song of Penang although i hope Mr Kiang's BT durian will finally change my view
