    God is not a genie. His will is His will and He will not sway from it. If your prayer is outside of that will, it will be a hard no. But I trust that no, because He is greater and knows things that I don't know. I've received no's but what I can boldly testify is that He has never left me to suffer in that disappointed state. He always shows up, even after a no.

    • @LilJbm1
      @LilJbm1 Před 23 dny +1

      It's us that dont show up. I hear in what Kanye is saying a critique of modern Christians. God doesnt work like a genie, but he does use us to further the kingdom. When someone calls out for help from Jesus, as Christians we should hear that and step up for Jesus to help. Surrendering yourself to God means being obedient and letting Him use you for His will. Most Christians don't want to get involved and help. Likewise we dont want to help ourselves we just use God as that genie and think he magically fixes us but His plan is for us to come to Him and we do that work. We have to wrestle with God hence "Isreal".

    • @am24526
      @am24526 Před 23 dny

      @@LilJbm1 Yh this is true too. We do need to help our brothers and sisters in Christ for sure. I was responding more to what Kanye said about "having issues with Jesus" and him "praying and not seeing Jesus show up". If you pray and you don't see Jesus show up that shouldn't cause issues because He is not a genie. People need to surrender to God and help their brothers and sisters in Christ like you said but people also need to surrender when God says no and trust that He knows best. I think another thing he might be suffering from when it comes to modern Christianity mostly in western circles is the whole 'name it claim it' and prosperity gospel nonsense. Praying for the guy regardless. I hope he can rebuild and strengthen his faith in our Saviour.

    Very interesting, the fear of the Lord. I read spanish, and in the spanish version of the bible, the fear of the Lord isnt “miedo” which is typical fear and terror, rather, the word used is “temor”, which is more in line with the concept of awe and admiration.

    • @DavidMorales008

    • @suzanneflowers2230
      @suzanneflowers2230 Před 24 dny +11

      Yes. The fear of God means that we recognize He is Almighty; all powerful, brilliant beyond description; too much for my words to describe! And we are pitifully just the opposite! If He wanted to, He could squash us like bugs. Yet, He is loving and patient, slow to anger. When we realize this, that is the beginning of wisdom for us.

    • @pepethunder
      @pepethunder Před 24 dny +1

      @@DavidMorales008 there is nuance to that brought on by the context. When you tell someone to “no temas” you are using it in the context if “no temas por tu vida” (dont fear for your life) or similar. It can be used in that way, but in the context of God, it is always used in the respect form. There is also something to be said about “fearing the one who can kill the soul”, the thing about it is the context. It is said this way to put into perspective just who it is that you are addressing when you speak to the Lord. If we are to take that aspect of who God is, then we must take all aspects, which includes the mercy. We are not just talking about simple emotions and concepts here, and to break them down to the bare primal concept of “fear” would be missing the point.
      To sinplify: if you want to tell people to respect a king, I say “ten temor”
      If I say “admire your friend” it would be “adrmiralo”
      There is a higher tier in “temor”. You could even love your king because he is just, but he is king, and my life is in his hands. Its a concept we dont currently feel in society, so perhaps that explains the confusion.

    • @DavidMorales008
      @DavidMorales008 Před 24 dny +5

      @@pepethunder it’s not a confusion we just have to be real careful when we say English translation missed the mark this longer explanation you just did is what you may want to consider in the future because non believers or skeptics would use any excuse to say our God is not real if a English speaking nonbeliever sees your your first comment they may say things like “what am I supposed to do learn all languages and translations to fully understand the Word” some teachers tell folks about the original Greek or Aramaic scriptures that are more revealing but I as former non believer would have said how big is your God if I have to learn Ancient Greek and Aramaic to fully understand, I’m not trying to give you a hard time I’m also bilingual and even have a English/Spanish language Bible that I love but using your King analogy is much better for teaching non believers than using the “it make more sense in Spanish” teaching method I think your a great teacher just want to help you get even better your second example was better when we teach in a open social media setting we have to teach with the unbeliever in mind and there heads are so full of doubt sometimes it better to use examples while still using what bible they may use unless they are using the Passion translation or some non biblical bible translation God bless brother I hope I didn’t come off like a jerk I just believe in iron sharpening iron and I was a big mess as an unbeliever but being born again I can now look back at how my doubts were so blind

      Awe and admiration alone are not sufficient imo for the phrase fear of the Lord.
      Obviously there is more to it than fear alone as well.
      But I think getting rid of the fear part is a mistake.
      The Bible says that you shouldn't fear the devil nor other things, but God Who can destroy both body and spirit.
      What it comes down to for me is to be mindful of God in all I am doing, to involve Him in my life fully.

That people not live in the "fear" of God (meaning to be under a feeling of immense terror) but to be in an awestruck, reverential understaning that God is who he is. There is a level of awareness that comes with that. Like as a child to "fear" your parents is a good thing. Meaning you have an understanding of their expectations and relation to you. That they (hopefully) want better for you and work with you towards that. God has that fatherly role with us and he deals with us accordingly.

I actually think that when we are told that "fear of the Lord is beginning of wisdom" that we're actually talking about wonder and awe more than anything else. Like the wonder and awe of seeing something miraculous or surprising, like if one day you opened the front door and there was the Grand Canyon or the Great Pyramid! In the scriptures the angels always say first, "be not afraid" and that's just a member of his host! When we think and pray, the majesty of God should be overwhelming...we should be transfixed, get chills, our hearts should filled to bursting, and our mind should reel. I hope this makes sense!

    The two fears referenced are not contradictions, Kanye is taking them out of context.
    Im further addressing the difference between 'we do not have a spirit of fear' (2 Timothy 1:7) and 'the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom' (Proverbs 9:10, Psalm 111:10). The first one is about overcoming fear and timidity, while the second is about having a healthy respect and reverence for God's power and authority.
    Think of it like this: one is about being bold and courageous, while the other is about being in awe of God's majesty!
    And let's not forget about Doubting Thomas! He's a great example of how it's not about not having doubts, but what you do with them. Thomas had doubts, but he brought them to Jesus and said, "My Lord and my God!" (John 20:28). He didn't let his doubts hold him back, he brought them to God and God set him free!
    That's the key! If you hold onto your doubts, they can take you away from God. But if you bring your doubts to God, He will set you free! So, don't be afraid to bring your doubts, fears, and questions to God. He's big enough to handle them, and He'll meet you right where you are.
    Remember, it's not about being perfect, it's about being honest and bringing your whole self to God.

    What's supposed to draw us to Jesus is who.he.is. When you begin to get glimpses of who Jesus IS and what he gave up for you and me your heart begins to melt. If we approach God with a transactional attitude we will be sorely disappointed because he doesn't operate the way the world does.
    It kinda seems like Kanye maybe never got those glimpses of Jesus' character. I would say that you get out what you put in when it comes to your relationship with Christ. If you want to know him and let your walls down and put the effort into learning who he is at any cost, you'll find him and you won't be disappointed. If you have a surface level approach to Jesus and treat him like a genie instead of a holy yet loving God, then I think this is where you can end up.
    Thanks for the great videos! Please keep making content that glorifies God and fosters a deeper understanding of who he is! We desperately need it!

    I finally figured it out!! I've been watching your videos for sometime now and I love the content but I can't put my finger on what is "off" (I apologize, for I don't mean to offend). But I do have a question... what is the distinction between these terms and I'm interested in the responses and possible answers, but what is 1)wisdom 2)knowledge and 3)understanding?
    Just curious on our perception and encounters with these.
    Will keep all in prayers and have a blessed day!

      Those words aren't the same for secular people either, so any dictionary would help you with that.
      To illustrate, there's a famous phrase that goes: "Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad." You can be knowledgeable (say, about science, art, history, etc.) and still be bad at decision-making, have a dysfunctional moral compass, be immature, etc. That would be a person who has much knowledge, but not much wisdom. Understanding, on the other hand, is related to knowledge, but knowledge may or may not be superficial, while understanding is always profound. *I'm sure that there're a lot of people that know you but don't understand you.* Understanding requires knowledge, but knowledge doesn't require understanding. For example, I may know many scientific facts and may be able to perfectly recite the works of Shakespeare because I was forced to memorize them at school but that doesn't mean that I really understand whatever I'm saying.

    Good commentary and well said Brandon - prayers are to strengthen your relationship with GOD. To worship GOD and accept HIS will - ask for forgiveness and strength to withstand evil
    *Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.*

    As soon as I heard how he was bringing up how his prayer wasn't answered, I figured out part of the issue. He doesn't understand prayer.
    If God doesn't grant the prayer, it's either because it's not something that's good for the person. Or He's asking the person to wait patiently. If what you're asking for truly is worth it, you should be willing to wait for it. At the same time, you need to reflect and ask yourself if what you're praying for is truly good. But keep in mind, even if you come to the conclusion that it is good, He can have a good reason for not granting it in the grand scheme of things. Plus, it truly is a test. Who or what do you love more? That thing you're asking for or God?

    Prayer in the sense of petition, asking for things, is a small part of it; confession and penitence are its threshold, adoration its sanctuary, the presence and vision and enjoyment of God its bread and wine. In it God shows Himself to us. That He answers prayers is a corollary - not necessarily the most important one - from that revelation. What He does is learned from what He is.-CS Lewis-

    He thought that his walk with God was going to be easy and at the first trials he dropped off the narrow path. The walk with God is not for the faint of heart. Just look at what happened to the apostles and many Christians now getting murdered for their faith. God has to strengthen us in the walk by testing us to see how much we believe and rely on him. God knows what he is doing with us and we have to let go and surrender.

    Most people will get this I hope, I love my dad and I know he loves me but as a child I also feared his punishments. He never abused me or anything, I just respected the consequences I knew he’d lay upon me if I did wrong. And I knew he would punish me if I did wrong even tho I know he didn’t enjoy having to do so. And so there was fear of the consequences I’d be held accountable to, but not of my father in general. And I think that’s how we should be towards God. Understand the bad that will come from his punishment but also understand that he loves you and doesn’t want to have to do that.
