This is the problem with VAR- the refs almost feel obligated to give a penalty once they go to review. Refs are becoming such focal points and they are now upstaging the game itself.

Gauvin is absolute world class #9 potential. Traditional forward with great movement. Great with thr pass to link the attack. Needs to improve the outside shot but was very impressed with her.

VAR is of course just a tool, very USEFUL in judgement of OFFSIDE decision so far. Issue about penalty call under VAR condition so far is many REFEREE simply not playing enough football personally in experiencing various situation to gain the sense. As to football fans, there are far lower ratio of knowledgeable type nowadays.

Well in all honesty, the ref looks at the screen and makes a decision, so in my opinion, the ref is actually responsible here and made a terrible decision.

Some may argue that the Norwegian defender Engen touched the ball first thus it is not a foul.
Exactly. Went for the ball, hit the ball first. No pen in my opinion. Plus they still had possession of the ball after the incident.

@@matthewmayer9066 Accidental does not mean that there is no fault. It can cause serious injury to the player. After maybe the penalty is too serious a punishment. An indirect free kick would have been better but the rules do not allow it.

Well the referee when I played football should've not excluded me that one time I broke someone's leg in the middle of the match . I mean I did touched the ball , and I should be able to continue the match and break someone else's leg...as long as I play the ball .

@Hona Hona now now don't let your feelings get to you and i watched the game , clearly you are biased ......again the french had a good first half just couldn't connect on the last passes, norway looked good on a couple of balls going forward but there was always an intervention by the french defense , i thought they had a chance with the right side where they managed to get a couple of crosses in , the second half by the french team started well they got the goal and then the crazy error by the defender, for me there is penalty because the defender touches the ball but commits the faul none the less, i thought the last 15 mins were hard physically for the french and they began to throw the ball away , in all it was a great game by the franch and they deserved the win, maybe you'll see sense after the deception is worn off🙂
