The KG-1000G is in my opinion the best mobile GMRS radio you can buy.. The remote-mount faceplate is priceless in a vehicle with scant space (like a Jeep).. and that speaker in the mic is also very helpful when flying down the freeway in a loud, rattle-bucket/heavily used 4x4 .
Yeah tough to mount a small radio in a jeep huh. Chinese radios are the best!
Careful, sad hams may post stupid comments🙂
Thanks, Jason, for the review. Got my GMRS license in December, browsing the market for a radio. Goal this year - my tech/general licenses. You and Josh and Dave C are my main channels. Keep up the good work!
Glad that Wouxun is making turnkey GMRS radios. Helps in getting more people into radios.
WREY-907 - I have two of these radio's. One Mobile and one base with an Ed Fong antenna. The systems work well. I appreciate your video's.
Just installed this radio in my Tundra, Thanks for reviewing it. WRKJ573/KD2VSS .73
Hello and thanks for taking the time to review this radio. I'm taking a hard look at buying this model. I live in the Southwest Houston area and recently obtained my GMRS license WRTG540.
I’ve had my GMRS license for about a year now and recently my amateur! I have been looking at these for awhile but haven’t purchased one yet. I really enjoy watching your videos and want to thank you for all of your help while I learn.
Thanks
Great review. I've been a ham for about 4 years (KI5ASO) and just got my GMRS license WRQG467. I've been looking for a radio and after watching your review this is now at the top of my list.
Enjoyed the video, just got my GMRS license this summer and bought a KG-1000 G plus. Lots to learn not only about gmrs but how radios work, looking forward to learning what this radio can do. Thanks for the information.
Thanks looking at that radio for a truck appreciate your time in making the video WFRX321
Great clear video - no jargon. Keep them coming.
Dang near perfect video. Finally pulled the trigger on my GMRS license because of your videos... WRMI790
Hey Jason. Chris, KD5HIY here. WRKZ272 with you on GMRS also. Hoping to pick one of these radios up soon. Very nice equipment.
KB7VPL / WRMA512 I just bought this radio. Going to get an antenna up this weekend, and see how it goes. Great video, thanks! 73 Jeff
WRFG263 from Maine! Great video. I am going to pick one of these up. Also a ham. Merry Christmas!
Really, no seriously appreciate you going through most if not all the menus, operation and functionality really takes your vid to the next level and extremely helpful, thank you:) Now more informed, also purchased KG 905G x 2:) No need for a GMRS, live in Canada
WRMQ972 - got mine installed and learning it now. New to GMRS, but also have my HAM license (KI5ATB). Great video on the KG-1000G. I'm local in the DFW metroplex.
Jason, the HAMS repeaters you saw listed were put up and are maintained by the Houston Amateur Mobile Society. They have a slew of amateur repeaters around Houston and down towards Galveston as well as the GMRS repeaters.
WROR753- been exploring GMRS and really like what it is capable of. Thanks for the great videos.
The video makes a lot of sense now that I have one to follow along. Thanks
Here in Buckeye, AZ, the only GMRS repeater that is closed to us is a private one, and has two tones. One for TX and another for RX. And since it's private, you can only get the two tones by becoming a member of that GMRS club, which I'm planning to do eventually.
Hi that’s what I have in my truck nice Redio thank you for the video
Thank you for showing the features of the radio. Yes I have GRMS license its WRAX693 to go with my ham license KM4ESU. This looks like a good choice for a GRMS radio.
WQZS494 here.. I don’t have the Wouxon GMRS radio. I have the Midland mxt105. I do like that your incorporating GMRS videos into your channel. 73 Jason. KM6MCI
Jason thanks for finally doing the video on the KG-1000. I'm going to get one soon with a power supply to use as a GMRS base station. I like your power meter, would that take away from your transmit power? Could that of been the reason your meter only showed 45 watts on key up? Another video I saw with a smaller inline power meter showed this rig at 50 watts on transmit.
I also use the Kenwood NX 3320 and NX 3820 and they work great for me
WRCI575 Dale, that is a fine radio! I use it for a base at the farm, so easy to operate from the front! Thanks for the video Jason, K7DFL
Just picked one up, great radio 👍
I have twoKG 1000 connected as a repeater works excellent
Nice video. great radio. I wish the FCC would consolidate call signs. If you're already licensed in one thing, that same call sign should be the same across all your other licenses.
Team replay for the win!
Glad to see more GMRS content.
Looks like a great little radio.
If GMRS was more active in my area I'd consider picking one up.
Thanks for a great review.
More radio traffic has to start somewhere...you may be the one to kick it off
@@theblindsharpshooter ya know man, you are right. Easy to sit back and complain, I'm going to start calling out. Thanks for the motivation man. You rock.
Hope to hear y'all on 462.675
@@TheNoCodeTech I hope that was sincerity and not sarcasm 😁. I'm still waiting on my KG-905g to be able to legally participate on GMRS.
@@theblindsharpshooter very sincere, made contact with two local GMRS operators.
WSCB835, Ex-Truck Driver Retired. Haven't found anyone to talk to on GMRS. But my Stryker 955hp reaching out there. My GMRS needs work I'm getting this one next. I enjoy watching you and Notarubicon on you tube.
Thanks for stopping by, hope to hear you out there soon
And I just ordered 2 Wouxun KG-905G GMRS tonight
Great little radio, very professional looking. If I didn't already know that it was only $110 I'd think it was a four or five hundred dollar radio. I suggest that you order the longer skinny antenna that is normally supplied with the 805G because it goes better with the looks of the radio. The supplied antenna is shorter and looks more like a VHF antenna. My two cents.
WRUF615. I have this radio on a Slim Jim I bought for camping but plan on buying an Ed Fong. Have a Nagoya magnetic on my motocycle and Sidecar
Thanks for the video Jason. The radio looks pretty good. Nice job of explaining some of the terms we use in ham radio as you go along.
This is WRCGXX6. Greeting from Buckeye, AZ
Here in Australia we do not have GMRS, we do however have 80 channel UHF CB at 477 MHz, limited to 5 watts with repeaters.
Nice review Boerne TX WREM781
I, know it's been a few months since you have posted the video, and like to thank you for the info. I have just applied for a License and looking to get into the GMRS as a hobby.
looking forward to new videos on the subject.
WRKX756, also working on my HAM Technician
Just ordered the KG-805G today from Buy Two Way Radios, and will likely get the KG-1000G at some point for a base unit when I get my HAM shack built.
GMRS--WRMD741
HAM--KF0EAV
I believe that port on the left side of the radio not only is it for programming but I believe you can link to kg 1000g radios together and make them into a repeater.
N3PLA HAM - WRMB762 GMRS I understand two of these and a GMRS duplexer make and excellent GMRS repeater.
WRMH669 here, looking to get a nice mobile radio to fit my needs....i think ive found it here. Great video and thankyou for your instruction. 73's
I can tell you something I've noticed with several of the gmrs radios in reference to the output power. For the Base/mobile types you need a really good power supply and an accurate meter. The higher the voltage setting is close to between 14 and 15 volts and rated to at least 30 amps or better you will get your wattage. If you are running economy, your output will suffer. I've had at least 10 of these radios and they all seem to be weak at 12 volts and if you are at 13.8 your output will be nominal. A good antenna with an excellent low loss cable is a requirement and of course the higher your elevation the greater your distance. There are allot of other factors as well If you are looking for skip ... forget it ! My cable was the most expensive part of this system. If you want performance its going to cost, otherwise if you go cheap, don't complain . WQXK742
I just got my KG-1000G set up last week and started using it. I really love it. I am very new to radio (and to GMRS for that matter), but I've been using one of the local repeaters out here about 30 miles away and have already made a handful of contacts. I have one question though...every now and then I see the receive light come on when I have the channel set on the repeater channel but no noise comes out of the speaker (even when I have the volume turned up). It usually only happens for a second or two at a time. Do you have any ideas what is causing that to happen? WRKJ910
I currently have a Midland MXT275 in my Jeep. Unfortunately not much traffic on GMRS in Wichita Kansas. If it ever catches on this radio would be a good upgrade. WQZB703.
WRFY970 here. I'm considering this radio.
One of the top sellers right now
WRHT976 out of NW VA. I have been looking for a remote faceplate and this is great. Will be moving from a midland to this, thanks!
Very thorough review Jason. Thank you. 73
WRML487 here. Great video but would have like to seen this with multiple contacts across different distances and equipment on the receiving end. All we kinda know is that you can push power through a meter and probably hit a repeater. I kinda want more from a radio and antenna costing almost $400 all-in ;-)
I never planned for this to be my only video about this radio
I’m considering purchasing this radio.Hopefully I will be able to hit a few of the repeaters in town 20 miles away in Houston with this unit. WRKQ564
WRNA759 here. Have armature extra (K1ATM) for ham and just recently got GMRS license. Not sure which radio to purchase. Watching your videos with respect to Wouxun radios befor purchasing. Appreciate your informative videos. 73'
Thanks
I am new to the radio world and just got a KG935G. Is there a base style radio you would recommend that can be moved from the house to the car ?
applied for my GMRS license. im looking for a 50 watt mobile unit. what would you recommend ?
wrpy611, I'm in California still waiting for this radio on back order and the KG-UV9G PRO
WRVF952 I'm thinking about buying a Wouxun1000G or a Midland MXT500 ,I leaning more towards the KG1000G. But like the idea of the turnkey 50cal. ammo box can get for the Midland
Great radio! It’s on my wish list. WRKF836 😄
Good choice!
Can I use, for example, 462.700 more than once? But programmed with different codes, or do I need program each one one separately while traveling? Thanks WRFT350
Thanks I have a mxt400 in my truck
WRFX900 Nice review
WRPZ857, I just bought one KG-1000g it awesome.
This is relevant to my interests
Can the TYT MD-UV 390 Plus perform the same functions as the KG-1000G? This obviously a newbie question.
Great review, on a really nice GMRS radio. WRKP 889
Update, finally got my KG 1000G, and it is a great radio.
Hey
What’s the link to the Ed Fong a tan a for this GMRS frequencies? Couldn’t find it below video
Howdy! WRTA820, Newly licensed and learning as much as I can. I live in Mansfield, just down the road from you. Wanting to acquire a nice HT, and mobile unit for my rig. Your videos have been very helpful! Would love to correspond, pick your brain a little. It’s easy (and fun) to get carried away with this stuff but I want to do it right. Cheers!
Is there any repeater coordination in GMRS ?
I am Amateur callsign AB1OR along with WRKY522 located in Haverhill Ma I have been thinking about this radio for quite a while but haven't been able to buy anything because I was in the middle of restructioning my fiance's and paying off loans but this month I cleared 2 major hurdles so in the upcoming I might pick up this radio by the way I have been a ham for over 30 years ans an Extra class licensee and involved with radio since the age of 10 and what I have seen of your shows you do make very good if not great presentations an your show keep up the great work de AB1OR
Love the video. Been very interested in the kg1000g. I appreciate you going thru the different functions. I think I'll get the kg1000g after watching this video. Currently I'm running the Midland MXT115., but it has some limitations. Thanks again for the demo. WRFV702 SE Michigan
Jason, My call sign is WRPN884 for GMRS, and for Ham radio it is KI5KHR, enjoy your videos. Does the face of the KG-1000 detach for separate mounting?
Yes
Jason, There is a GMRS repeater in Arlington. Closer than Venus.
Is it actually on the air? If so, they need to put it on the website
Just got my GMRS license. Call sign is WRQW587. Looking for a good mobile radio to add to my truck. Will this one allow you to transmit on FRS as well? I realize it would be less than a half of watt of transmission power.
Nice video, thanks. I have the KG-1000G and really like it. Solid build and tons of functionality. The ability to create multiple scan groups (using the software) and then scan two groups simultaneously (side A/side B) is great. It’s pretty much 2 radios in one box. It includes several additional RX only bands including Air. Audio is significantly better compared to other GMRS models out there. Has 3 speakers in total, backlit faceplate /mic & much more. Currently using it as a base connected to a 30amp MFJ power supply and paired it with the new Wouxon handheld that just came out.
Great Video! WRKT259 here (also KE8OLB) I have the KG-805G and the KG-905G HTs. Love them both. I need to get my hands on two of these KG-1000g's for a repeater function. You can connect two via a cable and set gmrs repeater function!
I'm eying this when it comes in stock. Not to derail... but any rumors if Icom is planning to release a new upgrade to their 7100 to compete feature wise with Yaesu 991a?
WROD320. Have the kg905 and the 935 now
What type / model cable to you
Hi Jason, I am also WQLX406
Can I use midlands ghost attena with this attena ?
Looks like a neat little radio. I too have a GMRS license, hello from Los Angeles. GMRS: WREL500, HAM: K6WTG, RR:00162553, (and Experimental on its way, fingers crossed)
have the Btech GRMS 50x1 - WRKU865 Always good to have multiple line of communication. 73, Ed N6XEW
pre made GMRS radios are pretty much a new thing the last few years back in the day we used maxtracs micors or whatever part 90 radio we could set up. I had a regency 16 channel it was a pain you would have to re tune the receiver section every 6 months
WRMB912... Hello. I'm new to the GMRS world. I used CB Radios back in the day. I purchased the Wouxun KG-1000-G a week or so ago and just installed it. I need to program in repeaters for the Reno, NV, and surrounding area, and obviously, learn how to use the radio.
Would be interested to hear about your experience. I'm also new to this and looking to purchase this radio along with Ed Fong antenna for house. Please share!
Buy a second KG-1000G and make a repeater very easy. WRCX586 GMRS and ham is KA0KAE. I do want to get two of these and a duplexer to make a repeater for my family to use. What would happen if you mistakenly used your Ham call sign on GMRS? Are you placed in GMRS Hades?
I'm GMRS WRCV874 in Tennessee
jason did you make up your call sign for GMRS i have not heard of that.
Nope
WQXM648, Austin, TX here. 73
Is it possible to do a video on the repeater function of this radio please? Heard its very neat 👌
He talked about it in the video, did you watch the video?
@@SbrGrendel65 or does this radio have the ability to act as a mobile repeater?
@@babj615 Two can be linked to create a GMRS repeater. We have a video that demos this on our channel.
@@BuyTwoWayRadios yes, I watched that, just didn't want to post it here out of politeness. Thank you!
What happened to the digital watt meter?
If I had your callsign, I would ID as w-RF-k### with emphasis on the RF part.
Nice video. If you have had your GMRS license for 10 years you better check to see if you need to renew it. If I remember they are only good for ten years.
I've had it for about 12 years and have renewed it once during that time
Been looking got a mobile for in the truck, WRJK223
THE PROGRAMING PORT IS FOR CTCSS AND DCS. NEEDED FOR REPEATER USE.
You should push them for another HR20 discount!
I’m getting a GRMRS license on the 19th. I’ve been waiting for the license price drop.
WRCI356 Longview Texas!
KG-1000G vs BTECH 50X3 comparison? i can't decide
Curious about mounting the Ed Fong J-pole antenna in my attic or does this defeat the purpose of putting something outside.
It will work better outside, but if you can't do that, having it in the attic should be fine. It'll definitely improve reception over having the antenna inside at ground level or just using the HT antenna
It's indeed the best GMRS mobile radio. Hope they revise it to provide a way to dim the display. Otherwise it is perfect.
