Enlightening. I have a WWII sporterized Mauser 98 that was very poorly bedded in a synthetic stock. I’m first looking at how much of the old bedding I can Dremel away. Thanks for the info. This 30-06 will be a backup gun in my truck in case something goes wrong with my finer rifle. I don’t want to leave an expensive rifle in the truck when I’ve walked mikes away.
Thank you, I will be fitting a Brownells 96,sporter stock to my badly sporterised M96. I know the 94/96 is quite different setup (with tube spaces) but putting together info from various sources.
In my opinion you produce the best bedding videos on CZcams. Would love to see you post more series on bedding the different rifles. Your bedding compound is on my list for my Mosin sporter project.
Great stuff Nathan, this video will save a lot of heartache and frustration. :) I might try "Bogging" up the forging @ grinding imperfections on the receiver to remove any 'keying' and to 'straighten up' the surface prior to bedding. I could test the release / using a Plasticine and talcum powder as a release agent in the stock before the bedding compound. Cheers.
Hi Bern, yes. As long as the operator is aware of the critical aspects of the job, it is possible to employ various workarounds. The VZ for example, has milled windows cut into the lower section on the action to reduce weight. These are obvious trap points which need to be filled with plasticine to prevent locking.
Another informative video. Could I run a layer of masking tape along my box magazine/trigger guard to give me the space as well? Assuming same issues for M38 Swedish Mauser?
