The 23-year-old Gioachino Rossini completed his masterpiece Il barbiere di Siviglia incredibly quickly - legend has it in just 13 days - which Rossini attributed to ‘facility and lots of instinct’. He drew on Pierre-Augustin Beaumarchais’ play Le Barbier de Seville - part of a dramatic trilogy that also inspired Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro. The opera is characterized by youthful energy and bold wit: qualities brought to the fore in Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier’s colourful production.
Il barbiere di Siviglia has all the ingredients for comic chaos: an imprisoned young woman, her lecherous guardian and a young noble suitor. Skilfully plotting behind the scenes is Figaro - an irrepressible and inventive character in whom many have seen a resemblance to the young Rossini himself. The score fizzes with musical brilliance, from Figaro’s famous entrance aria ‘Largo al factotum’ to the frenzy of the Act I finale, when the five principal voices pile on top of each other. Within a few decades of its 1816 premiere, Il barbiere di Siviglia had been toured round the world, reaching opera houses in New York, Buenos Aires, Trinidad and Ecuador. It has remained one of the most prominent and popular operas in the repertory.

I cannot believe he "riffs" on the score making the piece even MORE of a beast than it is. Amazing.
DeShaun Lew it bel canto. That’s what you are supposed to do.
JDF sang and acted wonderfully. such a perfect opera, the cast, the staging, the orchestra and conductor, it is one of my most beloved blurays!
Juan Diego Florez at the top of his form... The most charming Almaviva ever! Beautiful and unforgettable performance with Joyce DiDonato singing and acting in a wheelchair...
She is an incredible actor isn't she
You mean Juan Diego Florez? Yes, HE is an excellent actor, SHE - I mean Joyce DiDonato - too! Both of them are magnificent and very charismatic!
Songelosodelzefiro Yes I meant DiDonato. I love them both too!
whybotherk So welcome on board! Regards!
Voce molto bella, adatta a questi ruoli rossiniani. Un piacere ascoltarlo, bravo Juan Diego! Grazie.
Best Almaviva ever! This cast and staging are perfection, what a wonderful opera. I frequently take out the bluray and it always makes me happy. I also really love the version from the Met, with Flórez, Mattei and DiDonato.
I loved that! But I can't find it on this site, you don't have a link by any chance, do you?
@@annatowers2524 Hello Anna, if you go to the official website of the Met opera and then go to 'on demand', you will find a HD stream with subtitles of this version. They never released it on disc (otherwise I would prefer to have it in my hands also), but the streaming subscription is not expensive, I think the first week is even free. Have a nice day!
@@freesienundrosen8726 super thank you
One of the bests! 🙂
I'm very very proud to say that this amazing man is from my country
Keep going Juan Diego Flórez! 🇵🇪❤️
Stunning voice!
LOVE THIS! Can't wait to watch him live on stage again!
What a fu**ing great voice!! Brilliant & Powerful
Wonderful performance and love the ornamentation.
I love the stars inside the crescent moon.
I love this man's voice. He perfectly captures the concept of the romantic hero.
However, is anyone else slightly distracted by the fact that he looks like Gaston from Beauty and the Beast here?
I'm distracted by the tree.
Yes!
Lmao now I can't unsee it!
Nowhere near how a bel canto tenor should sound. Very forced, too loud, and out of tune so often. I actually squinted half the time because of his poor intonation. Nothing new for Florez though. Here is a recording of the way this aria should sound:

@@bdf8011 I loved this Juan Diegos' aria (I haven't such trained ears), but Luigi Alva's version is much better, I agree
I think it was fantastic and gorgeous singing as well as precise and on point. I still can't believe this applause. Sounds like the applause was muted.
Amazing Rendition and the Noltes Arie claer and brillant
A classic clip starring Juan Diego Flórez to celebrate the impending return of Il barbiere di Siviglia...

thank you, I think I have the DVD I am not so sure.
Bravo Juan Diego :D
The most charming Almaviva ever!
Love this aria!
He is the Direct herb of Alfredo Kraus. I was Lucky because I've enjoyed his Art around 10 times . BEST Liric Tenor of S. XXI
What’s a “ direct herb”?!
Bravo!

Florez è un patrimonio dell'umanità!!
The best Count Almaviva ever!

V
why did they dress him like the Joker ? :''D
Lol
I can no longer unsee that. Good job 😂😂
Because Florez IS a joke. The most nasal tenor ever.
PROBABLEMENTE ARIA de la seducción.
Fabulous!
Conte (抒情男高音): Ecco, ridente in cielo (瞧,天堂的微笑)
Love the fact the orchestra are wearing wigs
Is the high c written in the original score or is it something that Maestro Florez does out of his own accord?
In the manuscript score this aria ends on middle C, but it is not uncommon for tenors to alter this as Juan Diego Flórez does and end on a high C.
Royal Opera House Thanks for the explanation ! Quite kind
Perché Florez non Verdi??? Secondo me un grande Alfredo!!!
@@RoyalBalletAndOperaСпасибо!
@@RoyalBalletAndOpera He's gilding the lily.
The sleeping soldier near Juan is very lucky!
I love the tree
3:33
I think this song similiar with "Bel Raggio Lussigher" Semiramide
👏👏👏👏👏
😻😘
I like his little own improvs towards the end, but the ones in the middle and beginning not so much.
Why does he look like Gaston??
Cordiali saluti
Schipa = Un vero Tenore!
Florez = Schiffo!
What's the aprox date of the recording?
+Nacho Peixoto (Nachinius) This recording is from July 2009.
+Royal Opera House Thanks.
Non raggiunge comunque R. BLAKE ...
No one does this better than Luigi Alva!!! Don't believe me, check it out!!
Very nasal and constricted.
Nasal
Once you listen to the greats, like Kraus, Jadlowker, Schipa, and more, you just can't stand with the fundamentally badly produced tone of JDF's voice, a cercenated, shrill sound, that apparents fullness, but that is insubstantial
Who is JDF? I only know JNF (Juan Nasal Florez).
Agree 100%
nasal and thin voice. not good.
