    I also find air humidity makes a big difference, currently it's 90% humidity here so violets I dried yesterday I'm keeping an extra eye on with conditioning since it's not something I can run to store to buy more. Today is meats, they go do fast with my dog it's usually no issue😅

    Hi Darcy! Been binge watching your videos (they are AWESOME!) but have a question regarding something I’m still not sure about: If I condition the pieces of vegetables I’ve dehydrated, will I need to dehydrate the powder I make from them also? OR- can I skip the conditioning step for the dehydrated vegetable pieces and just dehydrate the powder?
    Thank you!!

    • @ThePurposefulPantry
      @ThePurposefulPantry  Před 11 měsíci

      Don't skip conditioning - and some things need it after you make the powder - especially those prone to clumping. Generally vegetable powder doesn't need it, but fruits probably do, garlic/onion - yes. It's one more step to help preserve properly. But of course, it's always your kitchen to do as you want.

    • @ThePurposefulPantry
      @ThePurposefulPantry  Před rokem +1

      no - especially for storage. But if you prefer the chewiness of less done, store it in the freezer. Too hot? yes, too long, no.

    • @ThePurposefulPantry
      @ThePurposefulPantry  Před 10 měsíci

      I don't know what machine you have - so it depends ;) In a cabinet, I rarely have to rotate unless I'm doing fruit leather. in a stackable, every 2-4 hrs. depending on the length of time of the project.

    Can you put a oxygen absorber and a moisture absorber together for long term storage. Ty

    • @ThePurposefulPantry
      @ThePurposefulPantry  Před rokem +1

      Not recommended - neither are necessary - but they also negate each other when used. O2 is for long-term. Moisture absorbers are for those things that you are in and out of a lot and need to control the moisture being introduced.

  • @Dion82866
    @Dion82866 Před rokem

    Thanks for the super informative videos. You answered my questions about powders, but can you use desiccants in place of "conditioning" when you go to store dried items, to help remove that moisture?

    • @ThePurposefulPantry
      @ThePurposefulPantry  Před rokem +2

      No. Condition. Moisture absorbers aren't there to finish the job, but to prevent further moisture in storage.

    In my area there is a shortage of instant iced tea, has been for months. I tried brewing tea and dehydrating it to make my own instant tea powder, but I was unsuccessful. You aren't doing anything wrong. They need more time to dry - and make sure you give them 10 minutes or so to cool off before you test. If not dry - dry longer. Food is dry when it's dry, not by the timer.

      You didn't do anything wrong. Their stems can be tough if it's older, so they will take a while. Remove the leaves if you think that will help and do the stems separately. They take as long as they take to dry.
