Exactly. Whistle has nothing to do with whether or not the mouth is open. It's about the register of the voice that you're in. Vocal fry register, chest voice register, head voice register, falsetto register, and whistle register. Some people say there is a dolphin register above the whistle register. Also, there's a debate on whether there's a diff between falsetto and head registers. But generally speaking, this is the line-up and the explain on what whistle is.

This "Gakku" festival took place in September 2017 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. It is said that the city center was paralyzed on the day of the concert. More than 150,000 spectators gathered in the central square of the city. Many came then only because of Dimash. Dimash performed at the end of the concert and sang 5 songs. It was evident that Dimash was relaxed on stage because the competition in China was behind him. The festival is not a competition, and Dimash was HOME, among his countrymen and DEARS. In the song "Unforgettable Day" he took a chance and sang D8. And before the D8 he was waving his microphone, but we didn't hear the sound. I think it was some ultra-sound that only animals hear, and people don't hear. It is said that Dimash sang D8 - "the whistling of the dolphin" and it was the longest sound of this high note. In the history of modern singing performance, the longest sound of this note. There are singers who take this high note, but for so long to keep it no one can.

Говорят, что D8 - «свист дельфина», которое спел Димаш, в истории современного певческого исполнения самое длинное звучание этой ноты. Есть певцы, которые берут эту высокую ноту, но так долго держать её ни у кого не получается.

there is no singer who can match him and nobody can imitate him, his immeasurable vocal range.
Everybody thinks the vocal world is all flat, then along comes someone like Dimash hits a d8 with ease and now says the
world is round. Hes redefining the vocal landscape. He has whistle registers in the d8 range, but apparently hes found a way
to use that register for his other voices. So he dosen't need to close his mouth to hit that ridiculous note.

You are still somewhat new to the Dimash experience. But piecing together what the experts have said about his voice, his range and vocal control are almost infinite. Because of his physiology and his 20 years of training, he has reached the point that all he has to do is WANT to hit these notes and his body will do whatever it takes to get him there. It's almost a science experiment. But thank God that his mastery of the ART of singing includes his almost infinite ability to interpret the songs and convey the emotion of the songs. A rare combination. I for one consider myself lucky to be living in the time of Dimash. Thank you for the effort you put into these reactions. They are very enjoyable.

It is whistle register. The highest key on the piano is a D7, He hit a D8 which is off the piano. He also hit it for 5 seconds with vibrato. He also wrote this song when he was a teenager about the Unforgettable Day he saw a girl & fell in love with her. Until this time, seems everything has been said about Dimash exceptional talents in music especially his powerful voice and widest vocal range. Public viewers, supporters and renowned expert in the field of arts and music worldwide remains in wonder of it. Often it clouded questions in our minds …, it’s really true to believe It.? Comments on line say: “Oh his voice is out of this world, Is Dimash human..? An alien..? Is his voice true and real..? It is unbelievable..? It is impossible..? How Dimash do that…? Gosh… what a crazy and insane voice he has etc...”
For Dimash viewers worldwide who are still in doubt of his powerful voice and widest vocal range, probably you can give a thought of these following facts and opinions which I myself consider to be of great help and basis to cancel any doubts we had in mind.
1st ► All other things which are beyond our human expectation and understanding, I do believe that Dimash is really gifted by God with grace for music. Truth is… when God’s power intervene, indeed, no doubt things are possible.
2nd ►Dimash 20 years of intensive studies, training, practice and participation in different singing contest in his own country and abroad proved that his talents in music has been exposed to a series of tests, thorough evaluation and development in so many ways. Within that span of time, he was able to reach and develop an exceptional and extraordinary height of his voice beyond human capacity. His performance on SINGER 2017 in China brings new avenue of his talent to the world. For sure, strict rules and regulations in that contest are to be followed, though Dimash is foreigner and the youngest among them, but at all means, he make it to the 2nd Place, this prove true of his great capacity in the field of music even at his younger age and experiences.
3rd ►His live concert performances in different places is great evidence, that his voice and vocal range is no tricks and magic at all. Persons who work with him and audience who experienced it personally can testify the truth and reality of it.
4th ► Both parents and family of Dimash are musician; I suppose that since at an early age they had been guiding and helping him professionally to boost his talents in music to the full.
The discipline, dedication, hard work and perseverance that Dimash has put into it, and in himself, I greatly admire and ponder with, and I want to share it to the world especially to children, young people and students who are still developing their God given talents and gifts at this time. Of course not all are gifted like Dimash, but how he was able to reach that kind of quality and optimum talent development..?… Is really a great deal to reflect on. His open mind and great passion for his professional field made him possible to soar high even more than expected, in the field of music where he is called to serve the people and do his mission as an artist. In this new millennium I consider Dimash an artist who is beyond borders. Just few years after his Singer 2017 performance in China, he was able to reach out and connect people in various countries with his music regardless of age, language, culture and religion. His music … bridge relationship among people and penetrated unbelievably in the hearts of people wherever they may be.
Behind the scene of his rising career, Dimash always looks back his roots and humble beginnings and heartily grateful to God and to these significant persons mentioned below whom he frequently remember in his various interviews wherever he goes. I greatly appreciate HIS GRATEFUL HEART AND THOUGHTFULNESS a good values and virtuous attitudes which is unforgettable to cherish in one’s life.
With due respect to Dimash, I’d like to offer this song THE UNFORGETTABLE DAY first to God and to these significant persons as our acknowledgement and gratitude to them for their great help and contribution in our human growth and development as well as in our professional field. This song is Dimash own composition in his teens which I supposed relates his journey as an artist. Below are my words of gratitude to each one of them whom we are truly and deeply grateful for.

Blessed be God forever for He has work great wonders and beautiful things, which He particularly revealed and given to every artist throughout the world.
2. TO OUR BELOVED PARENTS AND FAMILY
Dimash is greatly thankful to his family, who helps him in many ways all the way through his life and in his talents. I do not know Dimash and his family personally, but in his many interviews that I listen to, I perceive that he was raise up well, and taken care of by his loving family, no wonder Dimash grows up with sound values, well mannered, good heart, and humble.
May families worldwide protect the dignity and sacredness of family life, and value sacramental marriage which is a fundamental foundation of every child’s life, growth and development. The love and support of our family are priceless and unforgettable legacy that we will never ever forget. Since families are the first educators of life, great indeed are their roles towards their children right there in their own home and family. Today, young people lives are at risk, because, the world attempts to remove God in everything.
I am afraid that young generation with all the latest fanciful gadgets and pleasurable things in the world faces the danger of materialism and depression at length, more than ever.
I hope that parents, civil and church authorities will work together as models to lead and guide young people to find God in their lives, as they are endanger of losing ‘LIFE’S HIGHEST AND SUPREME GOOD.
3. TO OUR DEAR TEACHERS
Dimash looks back with grateful heart to his teachers, who has been a key factor in deepening, maturing and strengthening his life and knowledge in his chosen field. Dear teachers, my deep gratitude to you, for your great service and help for our brighter future. We would not be where we are today without your tremendous help and guidance. We will ever cherish in our lifetime the great efforts you invest in bringing out the best in us. Although modern day learning is becoming technology led, but great challenge to educators worldwide who lead the young to connect the study of sciences with God’s leading in their lives. Today’s mentality and materialism ideology could be very dangerous to the young, because they might falls prey to the power of the enemies, the devil, who from the very beginning had promised fake and empty happiness.

We have been ill with Dimashemania for 3 years! ))) A little about Dimash: - he is from Kazakhstan and he will be 26 years old in May - engaged in vocals since 5 years - its range is 6 octaves and 5 half tones (A1-D8) - performs in the style of: classic crossover, neoclassic, rock, pop, opera, rap ... - singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist - sings in Kazakh, Russian, English, Chinese, French, Italian, Ukrainian, Serbian and other languages - gained wide fame in the world after the first round of the Chinese project "I am a singer" in 2017. He was invited to the project as an experiment, as a foreign contestant. That's dolphin register right there. The Guiness World Record for highest note by a man is one note higher. Whistle notes are made with the vocal cords, not by the mouth. That's why his mouth was open. And the D8 is not on a piano... it's one note above the highest key.

He didn't do a D8 during that 😅compare the two, the whistle during Drunken Concubine is clearly lower. It's an F something or other, if i remember correctly. Who told you it was a D8??
