      @mamadouaziza2536 Před 2 lety +5

      Not true.. U can't blackball an actor if there is no work for said actor..
      During this man's heydays, there literally was no work for him in tv or in the movies regardless of any kind of blackballing.. Today, there is all kinds of work for Black talent but not so in the 1970s and early 1980s.

      @@mamadouaziza2536 A major problem of Hollywood casting which is still prevalent today is typecasting a black actor. There was work for black actors in the 70's. Hollywood profited from black actors in blaxploitation films. This led to many actors going to Europe to star in films and television. Many others performed in theatrical plays. Calvin Lockhart had done this himself. He starred in a number of films overseas. There may be work for Black actors today but there is still a huge disparity when it comes to the quality of work being offered.

    This brother was an incredible actor. The genius of his work was amazing and incredible.
    This was a great you tube post thank you.
    The versatility this man had it is really a shame he and many other great actors were stereotyped in Hollywood to play nothing but gangster and pimp roles. Unfortunately nothing has changed quality is overlooked and negativity is praised. Today we are still seeing great talent being limited because they are stereotyped.
    A lot of music not all and the same with some of these reality TV shows and movies the negativity we see today is definitely nothing but negative influence. I can appreciate entertainment but there are some things that is not necessary to see.
    Unfortunately for black actors especially during the 70’s we seldom would get positive roles. Calvin made an excellent point when he spoke about unity and being in control of your destiny vs relying on someone else getting work for you. I wish I could have had the honor of meeting him I feel we both share the same similarities in our careers.
    Being a musician every one and everything that glitter is not always gold.
    The genius and versatility of this man was beyond just playing a pimp or gangster.
    The amazing gift this man had to share unfortunately because of racism it’s sad that talent was over looked and not recognized.
    RIP my brother and thank you for your incredible work.

It still doesn’t everything because everything wasn’t available to me. I even attempted to interview other actors he has worked with but they all declined or didn’t respond or didn’t remember much about him. But Sidney Poitier’s words from a post I researched said it all.

Just remember, there was condemnation against Hip Hop. Now Hip Hop has produced so many millionaires who are able to do other things with their money. Also, there was condemnation against Tyler Perry. Now he owns the largest black owned and operated movie and TV studio in the country. Mafia movies are still being made, giving Italians jobs and income.

    This was a very excellent well put together documentary! I was young but I thought he was a pretty man! Now finding out that he’s spoken so many different languages, what he stood for and believed in. Makes him beautiful inside just as much as outside! I’m so glad I watch this. Thanks for sharing❣️

    Thank you for the acknowledgement of Mr. Lockhart. He was a major star in my family household. My family had movie day on Saturday to see the movies he was in. I remember Cotton Comes to Harlem my all time favorite. He was tall, handsome and such a great actor. He may be gone but will never be forgotten for his outstanding contribution as a amazing black actor. We luv you forever and may he R.I.P. ❤❤❤

    Just because this brilliant performer did not have the crossover appeal so many seek, this should not diminish what he DID accomplish. No one no where can duplicate Calvin Lockhart and Calvin Lockhart should be acknowledged for his contribution to quality performances, not maudlin, predictable archetype crap the powers that be labor to foist on a man like Lockhart. Let that man have the kudos he deserves...he is not unsung...I sing his praise.

    • @Upploadz
      @Upploadz  Před 2 lety +6

      I actually think he did have crossover appeal. It was the powers that be who stunted his growth due to his political views. He was considered too black, too strong.

    Those who know, will never forget Calvin Lockhart! Having said that, thanks for doing this. I came across Mr. Lockhart in a movie titled "The Beast Must Die" in my early teens and his performance in that movie left an indelible mark on me. He was so regal in that and every role he played. I agree with your analysis that it stemmed from from what he thought of himself. They denied him the success he deserved, but they never dimmed his spirit.Thank you Mr. Lockart for all you did. RIP
