Also, Armand leaves for literally an hour and his whole house of cards falls apart. No wonder he wanted to stay close!
It will be interesting to watch Armand figure out his next move.

Someone told me that in the books Lestat is stronger and more powerful than Armand. Did they reverse that in the show or does it still hold true or are we not sure yet?😂

The scream i screamed when i realized Armand said literally word for word the explanation that louis gave earlier in the episode about why "armand" saved daniel. Such a perfect way to show that yep, hes messed with louis mind and he even gave him the same script. Perfection!

Yeah! Poor Louis got bashed again. I'm not really liking this season half as much as the first one. This one is rather dark. I did like the outfits Lestat wore in episode 3.

I thought this too, and long wondered if anyone asked Neil Gaiman in an interview ;) if this relationship from Anne Rice inspired him to create his famous friendship between Dream and Hob Gadling in the Sandman. Hob essentially proves to Dream how to change his own perspective over the years, seeing this mortal man unwilling to give up life because he wants so much to live. Definite parallels.

I think Daniel would have continued on his journalism path. When Armand was seducing him into death at the end, he pushed back a little… “I like my life”, “I’m a reporter with a point of view”. It was one of the few things he was excited to live for.
Daniel surrendered to Armand. They were showing you the way Armand took his prey.
Agreed! But apparently addiction and denial were also taking over his life even before meeting them so who knows what could have happened without this interference...
I think he probably would have too, but there’s now going to be that question of “was it what *i* wanted or what was suggested to me”. But it makes me feel better to believe that he would have always ended up with journalism no matter what, so we’re sticking with that

I know I shouldn't feel bad for Armand, but I do and I relate with him so, so much. The "you're boring" part was very hurtful. And I can't get mad at Louis either, because... well, he's unstable at this point, and he says horrible things out of his sadness.

You should feel bad for Armand, and everyone else. I mean he was you know what as a child, no one deserves that. But this show is about sympathizing with the monsters. They’re all victims and they’re all monstrous. There’s no one not deserving of compassion.

Did his tone of voice sound different to you? Like not Louis' or Armand's or Claudia's versions of him. Like he sounded his most direct and sincere.

About Daniel and the journalism of it all: I think he would have continued regardless. It's the one thing that was clear that he at least enjoys the people aspect of the work. To me it's such a beautiful moment between him and Louis because those words gave him something to hold onto even through his worst moments. It's the voice that prompted his sobriety and the one that pushed him towards the long/successful career he had. It shows Louis's compassion and ties the two together in a way that's very heartwarming.
You know what, this is a wholesome way to look at this, and I’m going to indulge in your assertion to assuage the heartbreak in my soul right now. So thank you
That's how I saw it, too! It made enough of an impact to be written in his memoir, and kept him going when things got tough. So even when his relationships failed, he could always have something to rely on
@@AutumnBottomBrown Yeah that's what it was. It's why Daniel was so emotional. Because even when he broke up two marriages, lost his daughters and felt at his lowest, he never stopped being a journalist, he never doubted himself, because Louis words, the words that he wasn't nothing; that he was a bright reporter with a keen mind and there are still stories to be told, that's what held him on and kept him clinging to life, his lifeline. In the depths of despair and loss, it can be easy to forget or even lose who you are or forget why you're even alive anymore. Louis words were the anchor that echoed in his mind, reminding him of his reason. It's such a beautiful and profound moment to know that Louis was there for him when he most needed it, even when he wasn't physically present, even when he didn't realize it was Louis who said these words to him.
It's also such a beautiful circle moment, because Daniel started this series being pretty bitter of Louis because of their last time together when the last thing he recalled was being bit by him and that being his last memory of him, to now realizing that Louis had been his anchor to life, to remembering who he was and why he walks this earth-his passion, his craft, what built him up and kept him going, even when the world was pulling him down. ❤

I absolutely love watching your excitement, because I have the same level of manic obsession over this show.
Stuff: The whole "maitre"/"Arun" Master/Slave dynamic...is wild. The whole "Lestat Lestat Lestat Lestat" acting from Assad is so so so good and them mocking each other's accents is such deserved Emmybait. The whole Hannibal Lecter sadism of Armand torturing Daniel while screaming "This is fine," is so mesmerizing. His obsession with the word "fascinating" after being called boring...The echos of dialogue like "What happened next?" which just so lovingly mocks the original text. I hope that the, "You're going to teach me how to be fascinating..." is a teaser for more Devil's Minion.The sound design is also really significant this episode with those three solid notes reflecting when a memory is being edited. And a huge shout out to the actor playing young Daniel. He KILLED it.
This was just a perfect episode.

Need to find the nearest Danlou Union chapter and sign up. Louis encouraging him to keep to journalism because there are stories worth telling and he has the talent to do that telling? God. That being a through-line in Daniel's life and giving him a sense of self and purpose even in his darkest, most clouded momrents?? GOD. Being each other's forgotten support system for all this time??? GODD.
The fight I can't even get into. Someone give the back of the couch I almost shredded watching that some kind of bravery in service award.

@@AutumnBottomBrown I did pick up on the darker read from your reaction but I can't bring myself to see it that way. It's so beautiful that they can come back to each other like that and be gentle as they both work through remembering. PLUS the shot of Daniel and Louis all burnt at the table when the sound cut out will haunt me. Tenderness and hope from a monster vs the seduction into giving up from an angel. ARGH.

At this point I wait for your reactions are as much as the episodes. The "boring" line: the gasps i gusp. The "beige pillow" line: the hair i tossed. The sunglasses and the whole fashion of it all: the pearls i clutched.
No air has been left in that state of Colorado, for I have gasped it all!!!
My favorite part in this episode is when young Daniel took off his shirt and was so eager to sleep with Louis and Louis turned him down like Daniel wanted to sleep with Louis so badly and old Daniel keeps saying oh I was young and stupid or i was high nah Daniel you wanted to sleep with Louis and i think Daniel still does because why would Louis offer to sleep with Daniel now in the present day , Louis must have read Daniel's mind and he was like aw he still wants to sleep with me 😂😂, oh side note this episode shows that Louis and Lestat haven't seen or spoke to each other since the whole debacle in New Orleans over 80 years ago apparently so my question is where is Lestat now and why hasn't he tried to see Louis in all this time 😭
When Armand said to Louis about Lestat walking around and finding his book published and reads what he Louis thinks about him“then he’ll come after you again”. When he said that I think we will see in the next episode or the finale that Lestat is in Paris finding Louis and Armand stops him from doing that. Maybe Armand threatened Lestat to stay away from Louis idk and it pisses me off we have to wait another week.
I think Daniel is more gay for pay (drugs)
I don't think Daniel wanted to have sex with Louis. I think he felt he owed Louis sex for the drugs, and that is what Louis expected from him. As the previous comment said, he's more gay for pay.

Armand was SCARY this episode. This explains why he's had such a personal grudge against Daniel. Also, I just about lost it when we heard Lestat. I can't wait until we see him again!

Something interesting that I noticed is that throughout this episode, (old) Daniel never calls Armand by his name, just always refers to him as Louis's boyfriend. I'm sure that has some sort of significance, I'm just not sure what it is yet lol
“Your boyfriend” this “your boyfriend” that!! Again, it’s kind of showing the distancing that *Daniel* referred to at the very beginning of the episode with Louis. How a person will cast themselves and the people around them into the third person to not show closeness to the situation. Love love love it!!

I watched episode 5 TWICE and I'm still shooketh to my core! Do I live in Armand's powerful eyeballs? It took me some time after the second watch, but I realize that although Louis is imprisoned in a way, Armand thinks he's doing this because he's on "unalive" watch for Louis, but on the other hand, it's because he knows Lestat is out there still deeply in love with Louis.
Yes, yet they show RJ saying to Daniel 'you fear Armand but you should fear the other one'.
I feel like you explained it perfectly and it's so heartbreaking. It also ties into the implanted script of "Armand does what I won't or can't do for myself" which if I flip the dictionary open to "codependency"...
They really went for everyone's jugular with this episode, it was phenomenal!
I think Louis wants to write the book again bc he can’t remember. That’s why Armand was pulling the whole Rashid thing and is now all in the picture, to manage the situation and hope it’ll satisfy Louis and they’ll move on.

I was continuously refreshing my YT feed to check when your reaction is dropping!! Ahhhhhh!!! Louis actually called Armand bland and boring! WHATTTT!? And Armand threw Claudia in Louis' face. He said Claudia didn't love him!!! And telling Daniel "teach me how to be fascinating." And again the "Yes Maitre" and "Arun" at the end. I think show writers just saw the audience calling Lestat and Louis dynamic toxic and went aww that's cute. . .hold my beer we will show you toxic dynamic.
P.S - Sorry for the ramblings in the main comment. Had to put it somewhere. Really really excited for the 2 Daniels interview!! Daniel Molloy is definitely one of my favourite characters.

Another BRILLIANT episode. By the life of me I CAN'T explain the lack of viewership, which equals low ratings. It's a BRILLIANT, WICKED GOOD show with such a stellar cast and A list performances! Soooo good!! I hate to say it, but the radio silence from AMC on Season 3 is making me seriously afraid.

The low ratings is probably a result of streaming services fatigue. From what I see the show is only available on amc/ amc+ I feel like it would do much better if it was on a platform like HBO max

And I'm with you, I can't get over with their beauties, especially Armand. He is like a painting, so beautiful.
He is my favorite in the show, I thought tv version of Lestat will have my heart, like in the books, but sadly, he is my least favorite (except for season two ep 3). I do hope they redeemed him because I love Lestat in the books (and 90's movie).
Assad continues to raise the bar as Armand. Every episode he gets better and better. And Lestat’s gonna get his redemption, don’t you worry.

i swear, this show is fucking me up by edging me so hard with the way the last two episodes final scenes have been cut. talk about cliffhanger. when armand was talking to daniel in the 70's, giving him a glimpse of what imagined future he would have, it is like armand's version of the 'no pain' performance by the theatre. he and santiago must both have some intense mind gift to be able to get into their victim's heads like that. can't wait to watch your interview with daniel molloy.
I don't want to sound weird or anything but when I was watching this ep, during that fight scene between Louis and Armand, I had to keep pausing because I was freaking out and I was like "I wish I could talk to Autumn because OH MY GOSH" etc etc and the weird part is that they were both right! The only thing I wasn't on board with was Armand leaving Louis in pain just because he was hurt, but like Louis has said, vintage Lioncourt, so he at least knew on some level what Armand was capable of. And the end, well, THE GIRLS ARE UNIONIZING. LOUIS'S PISSED. ARMAND BETTER RUN.
TALK TO ME!!! I’ll pick up on your telepathic thoughts like Armand did with Lestat. This show does SUCH an adept job at not painting anyone as an outright villain or completely in the wrong in any given circumstance which I can never commend enough. Both Louis and Armand had faults here, and the fight- just like Louis and Lestat’s- were inevitable, but it doesn’t lessen the repercussions of both.

Amazing episode! The sweetest thing was seeing Louis and Daniel just hang out and act like two friends shit talking the others ex. And Louis bringing him to the zen garden to help him with his memories! It's also very bittersweet that while Louis did encourage Daniel at the end and gave him hope, he also might have mentally influenced him to keep chasing stories at the expense of everything else.
I loved seeing them chilling out at the zen garden; they should do a lot more of that. Then they might get some actual peace

Louis is that friend that break's up with the guy, but spends every moment annoying everyone around them talking/ complaining about that same guy. I just love poor broken Louis. He is just really deep down wants Lestat to come rescue him from Armand.
BTW, Jacob’s performances are amazing this season. He is able to make you fall in love, hate, be upset, feel sorry for and every other emotion for Louis. This is superb acting.

Series wise, I believe this was one of the best episodes. Truly amazing. Harrowing. Intense. Much like Anne’s own writing.
This was my favorite episode so far of the show. Assad is so heartbreakingly beautiful. I feel his pain as Armond and he just wants Louis to love him as much as he thinks he loved Lesat. I so agree with you, this is Emmy award winning work. Agh, so beautiful.

My favorite part was the fight, I loved the emotion and the wrath that came from Armand when he said “HIS NAME” “Lestat” there was so much going on in that scene it was amazing !

I'm soo happy that the show gives so much time to Armand, he was always my favourite from the books (like I skipped two books to read The Vampire Armand faster) and I feel this show understands why; he can be so sadistic but at the same time so easy to understand, because he has so many flaws. The fight between him and Louis was perfection and I can't wait for the moment that Lestat will be added to this mix 😅
That seductive monologue from Armand while prepping Daniel to be devoured cut so deep they attached a suicide prevention message to the end of the episode. That was intense

It’s like he’s still directing theatre except the stage actors and plays have evolved into a scripted reality and Armand is the man behind the curtain……. Armand, what a mindf*cker. I 'm beginning to think that he doesn't really love Louis and took what Lestat wanted in the '70s and stayed with him still since Lestat still loved Louis. Now, Armand realises that there is no love left in their relationship.
I mean, Louis was doing the same thing back in the '70s as Lestat was doing to him in the '20s & '30s.
Hopefully, Armand & Louis can end this relationship amicably. I don't think Lestat has reformed either however. Everyone in this show needs therapy! Except Santiago. He's perfect.
Louis turning into what he quote unquote despised about Lestat is one of the best things that was shown in this episode!!! I unfortunately didn’t get the time to talk about it more in this video, but it’s SO FASCINATING how he’s absorbed that part of Lestat (or at least what he remembers of Lestat) into himself and projected onto others. Making Armand “the housewife” that he used to be. But I digress. I think Santiago could benefit from some therapy, but he’s living life so fabulously, why do anything to disrupt that.
@@AutumnBottomBrown Santiago has conflict issues with the "boss" Armand. But his maker (I need to consult the Anne Rice Companion because I can't remember Santiago's maker's identity. Of course, I didn't care about him that much until Ben "brought him to life".) That being said, the one thing that actors didn't like is aging, not because of getting old, but getting the lead roles, 20 years later, he'd be getting roles as "Wise Old Man", ie. Prospero in "The Tempest". But relegated mostly side roles now if he were still alive, not to be Hamlet anymore but his ghost father, Claudius, or Polonius instead. Theatre de Vampires is that he'll never stop being the lead or aging out of good roles. There's an appeal to that. And on top of that, the gift of mimicry enables him to improve his acting technique.
Of course, with Claudia, stealing the limelight, from his perspective, she's got to go. Number one rule in acting: never work with animals or small children. They'll totally upstage you. ^.^
You said that you can understand where Armand is coming from, I understand where Louis is coming from. Imagine having someone make you the center of their world, and they are not living their life. Armand is peace and Louis and Lestat are chaos. Even Claudia is chaos.
Who bashed Louis then? This season is very dark. I can't wait for it to be over. In episode 3 Lestat had some nice clothes to wear.
That’s the brilliance of the show! No matter how much I might feel for Armand, I can never throw stones at Louis and say “well, you were completely in the wrong here.” because no one really is. That’s the messiness of life. Exacerbated my eternity! I get where Louis is coming from as well and I relish this show for its perspective!

I think Armand stated why I'm not a Claudia fan. She really doesn't love Louis. In fact, it seems like she flat out despises him most of the time. Lestat loves Louis. Armand loves Louis. Claudia doesn't love him.

This show should sweep the Emmys. Seriously. *Especially* Jacob and Assad for this episode (with a special mention to Luke). Unfortunately, they have stupid f*cking arbitrary rules about how many episodes have to air before a certain date and because of the strike, they got behind, so now the greatest show on tv gets *nothing*. Why aren't people watching it? Because AMC is cheaping out on advertising and the people who would really appreciate this show the most don't know that it's not some cheesy CW shlock. It is a f*cking artistic *masterpiece* and the world needs to know that.
