    In the 1996-97 Karl Malone was named the NBA's Most Valuable Player, posting averages of 27 pts, 10 reb & 5 ast on 55% shooting while leading the Utah Jazz to a 64-18 record and the first NBA Finals appearance in franchise history.
    In 1997-98, Malone finished 2nd in the NBA MVP voting, again posting averages of 27 pts/10reb/4ast on 53% shooting while leading the Jazz to a 62-20 and another appearance in the NBA Finals.
    In the lockout-shortened 1998-99 season, Malone became the oldest player in NBA history to be named NBA MVP -- winning his 2nd Maurice Podoloff Trophy at age 35. Malone averaged 24 pts/9 reb/4 ast and lead Utah to a 37-13 record --tied for the best record in the league.
