This banlist was impressive in the same way that it's a cool trick when someone pulls a tablecloth without moving any of the items on the table
The only thing that changed was the tablecloth. The items on the table and the table itself are still the same.
tbh the banlist just happened, so most of the top players just brought the same deck they already had. So if more top players are playing the deck, then more of them will be in the top finishes.

10 YCS Champion Trophies have been handed out since PHNI released. All 10 went to players playing Snake-Eyes/Sinful Spoils. Banlists aren’t banlists, they’re product pushers. The conflict of interest between maximizing profits and creating a healthy dynamic for the game is so painfully obvious.
Absolutely. At this point I'm not even mad with Konami because they usually have terrible banlists. I'm more annoyed with players because they like to pretend these lists are healthy and good even though it's an obvious tool to push product.
@@Woarkeswat worst part is how frequently it happens. Kashtira went 7/9 on YCS wins in its primary life cycle and that was literally released one day after they hit Ishizu Tear, which went 9/10 on YCS wins between MAMA and PHHY. We’ve had three obviously overwhelmingly best decks in the last 18 months. Banlists have been about product for a very, very long time now.

@danlay638 at least Kash wasn't teir 0. It was tier 1 with purrely, Flooandereeze, branded, and Tears sharing top spot with it at its peak.
Actually I don't know but if they would sellingpushers they would bann snake eyes. They didn't print new support for them in the new set. So buying new product doesn't help you a lot. Except... if tenpai dragon will destroy snake eyes. Then yes. They force you to buy them to defeat snakeyes
Somehow the Fire King version had even less representation post banlist.
Snake-eye is bigger board with synchro variant.
the FK version was never the better one and this becomes more true the more people figured the format out. Notice how FK representation was at its peak at PHNI release and steadily declined?
I think the issue was mainly that a lot of people were expecting the FK variant more than they were the pure variant. Looking at side decks you can see a lot of cosmic cyclones and other cards that hurt the FK variant, but aren't as good into pure. Due to this, the FK players were taken out early.
Thanks to the early release on Master Duel, it gave people more room to experiment with snake eyes without the FK cards. Turn out that Synchro build and Kash Snake Eyes was very powerful and ended having more succes now
@@e-tan3911 Some of the topping players were going for combos where you sac the field spell, so Cosmic is not totally irrelevant, you can chain it to Flamberge's field effect.
Nobody has time to prepare or play test new things for the new format, especially NA, people just bring what they wouldve play in the previous format to this event, and simply change Barone Savage to Omega Dispater
Yeah everyone just went "okay I guess FK is the better variant," sided for it, Pure came in with the 2nd best level 10 and level 8 synchro and nobody knew what to do.

Tbf the ban list probably hurt more rogue or tier 2/1 decks more. They don't have the layered interactions like fire decks have.

Analyzing this YCS is a bit isolated because LEDE was not authorized for this event. I'm looking forward to see the post-LEDE regionals.
And isnt it a bit too soon to judge the changes maybe its just me but i feel like you would need a bit more time to test out the format.

Banning Barrone/Savage/Linkuriboh did next to nothing against SE (it’s not like they didn’t have other replacements like Desper) while it hurt the other weaker decks that used them way more. It’s not surprising that the same decks is dominating still. It’s almost like doing ZERO hits on the actual archetype themselves was probably a bad idea lol.
It is like when they kept hitting tuners because of every halq pile. Surprise surprise, people keep playing halq. Ngl, they are good hits for the future but nobody cares about the future when it changes nothing about the present and we know they can very easily sell newer versions of baronne and borreload.
The thing is, every Snake-Eye variant is STILL a Snake-Eye variant. There are way more versions of "pure" Snake-Eyes than Fire King because Fire King just covers a fraction of the possible Snake-Eye builds. "Pure" is just more versatile since it covers everything from Synchro builds, to Link climbing builds, to XYZ builds on a TINY bit of Kashtira and/or Lyrilusc stuff, to Hand Trap spam, to Board Wipe set disruption.
As I thought TCG banlist was funny one, they hit the end board not the actual problematic cards and this the result "nothing changed"
Exactly what I've been trying to tell people. I've noticed a lot of players tend to retrospectively justify konami's banlist even though it's not a problem they identified (and is usually driven solely but monetary reasons not game health). Doesn't always make it wrong to do so but it happens time and time again and it's hilarious.
I still do not understand how anyone thought this was a good list. There were 0 impactful changes outside of floodgate hits and the most recent event proves my point.
Konami needs to nuke this format from orbit.

it was a good list in hitting stuff people didnt like, generic ED negates, its just that is like no. 10 or even lower on the things on the complaints list.
Everyone wanted even SOME direct hits to snake-eyes. like hell even something as simple as a flamberge dragon limit would have done more in actually reigning in snake-eyes than just hitting their endboard cause it would open them up to a nib. i dont really understand how someone would think the banlist stops snake-eyes when they still can play through a lot of handtraps, still put out enough distruption, still keep putting bodies on board during your turn AND do it all over again next turn.
people were salty about 'you need to draw the out' against ariseheart pass but snake-eyes usually needs you to draw 2 cause no single board breaker or going second card is gonna put you at enough of an advantage.
It's hilarious how Floodgate hits resulted in more Floodgate deck topping.
It was a good list for the general health of the game not the state of the format, snake eye will eventually get dealt with some way or another like every other top deck once konami decides they want to rotate it out but in the long term getting rid of generic negates makes the game less degenerate and allows for more diverse endboards instead of every combo deck being a different flavor of baronne savage apo turbo, also floodgate hits are always great.
The hits were still good it just needed actual snake-eye hits to go with them.
It’s almost as if not hitting the deck wouldn’t change a thing…who would’ve thought.
The ban list 100% was help to clear the way for Tenpai Dragons to do well. That deck will definitely be something to play around once it drops. I imagine Snake-Eye FK will still be the best deck once the new set is out but Tenpai should be able to compete hopefully.

Tenpai got second and had 6% of the top cut. Basically the same situation at Raleigh as the Lab player.
People need just admit the problem cards didn't get hit and now a bunch rouge decks got massacred.

This YCS will be good to compare to once Tenpai dragons are legal. We will see how they shape up the meta

In master duel I've been playing without the synchros since the the beginning. It was only maybe 1/10 times I actually got access to jet synchron, and the other 9 times id just have to go for masquerena. Replaced it with the Zeus package for playing through shifter and going second, and extra Promethean for how many people are playing kashtira unicorn

personally, given how close to ycs raleigh the banlist dropped, I'm more inclined to hold any actual thoughts until at least the next one
but if I was forced to give thoughts on based purely upon the results of this ycs, I think simplified would be the follows: good banlist for the overall health of the game, bad banlist for the immediate impact of the game
Handripping is utilized in SHS though Calamity lock is more popular. Don’t worry about HT format, Tenpai will have more handtraps. Maybe Limited Falmberge when Snake-eyes Diabellstar comes. Then Pure Snake-eyes can extend with SE Diabellstar and Yubel support. Yubel support actually can work in SE deck.
The only reason why Snake Eyes can play so many handtraps is because every card is 1 card full combo. Konami needs to stop printing decks with 15+ 1 card combos and the problem will be solved.
Manadium is the most recent version of non-one card combos. Thoughts?

My issue with the barone ban is the exact same as I had with the Isolde ban, I’m not arguing the card isnt broken or that shouldnt be banned, but was that really the most pressing issue in the format? I wish they hit snake eye properly first, then we can talk about it banning barone, now it just feels like there’s even less options
Nah banning Baronne was essential. Generic omni-negates have no place in the game anymore. And Baronne has been around for at least three years in literally every deck. It was time for it and Savage Dragon to go.

There was hardly any prep time for this format. I think now that we have a baseline for what is going on that players will now be able to combat this better. Next YCS will be a big indicator of what's really going to be the top dogs in this format

This banlist makes impossible to play rouge deck that doesn't use arctypes. There's always a hierarchy of arctypes. Once again rip creativity

I really think sometime down the line flamberge dragon will have to get banned only for its mini soul charge effect. Most the reason to me it feels like you need 18 Handtraps is cause on top of having a crazy board flamberge is a massive part of the decks literally infinite follow up that just guarantees they will destroy you on the crack back

Now that you say it, it reminds me of how the current MD event has flamberge banned and it makes me feel SE is almost fair without it.
I would like a limit to flamberge. Just so it doesn’t cycle itself if you get rid of it
limit flameberge doesn't do anything, post LEDE everyone will play only 1 flameberge due to new card released "snake-eye diabellestar" could recycle back flameberge into s/t zone. Genuine argument from me might be limiting snake-eye ash is enough and wait until the deck got powercrept by new card releases
The most infuriating thing about the Omega/Dis Pater combo is that if they manage to extend though your handtraps and rip two additional cards, you're just done.
That aside, I think the format is still going to change up a bit after people are more familiar with this variant. Given that Handloops are now in the format again (and probably will stay there with new Water support on the horizon), that's an even stronger case for Boardbreakers over Handtraps.

I went Undefeated for 5 weeks in the OCG with 0 Synchros. So yeah. Hitting the Synchros was definitely NOT a Snake Eyes hit 😂. Konami might as well have not released a Banlist at all.

Kinda like with fighting games, the best character gets nerfed, unless butchered, the best players keep playing and winning with them for a few weeks! Because they’re still the best players and they’re more familiar with these characters than the new “best character.”
But they switch once they’re ready to use an objectively better character.

I'm interested in how yubel post field spell and phantom of yubel will affect the current meta. The deck is crazy and has better interruptions than snake eyes.

I can’t tell if the results of this YCS are because it did not give players time to lab out alternative strategies so everyone just played what they already were going to but sub in similar cards aka dis pater omega, OR that this is a symptom of a banlist that made the top deck weaker but also made EVERYONE weaker so nothing meaningfully changes. Like sure snake eyes can’t protect themselves with barrone anymore, but neither can dragon link/swordsoul/pendulum/any other deck. Everything just shifted together so what was on top stays on top.

Imagine playing a deck that relies on you drawing a floodgate and going first
I expected Snake-Eyes to still be the top deck but I didn't think it would be the pure variant. I thought more people would move to Snake-Eyes Fire King but I also didn't think people would find replacements for Savage and Baronne so quickly. Maybe at the next major event we may see changes but something tells me the pure variant is sticking around.
Same I expected FKSE to be the best deck after the bans do to the hit to the end board of the pure version

No because of the banlist tenpai got a better chance to win going second now. So it could be tier 2.
Even if people had more time to prepare the end result would still be snake eye dominance.
I’m still shocked Branded has remained at full power for…what 2 years? 3 years? And has ranged from the best deck to tier 2 deck. Usually TCG is quick to deal with problems but I guess even they are Branded stands.
Pure snake eyes rarely goes into the synchros, at least from my experience. Heck, I've even seen builds that didn't run thrm at all. I don't know why people though hitting Barone and Savage would change anything.
Snake eyes still beats tenpai since you can sp the field spell then your hand traps still have an impact
Tenpai is ALWAYS going second. So you can't exactly S:P the field spell. Tenpai is running as many handtraps as snake-eyes. They could lightning storm, imperm, vieler, ghost ogre, or literally any board breaker before ever putting the spell on field, thus forcing you to make S:P early and then making S:P useless.
@@jeanpitre5789 and snake eyes can just ash or ogre the field spell, imperm or ghost mourne inr battle phase, or side judgment, d barrier, threatening roar or messenger of peace. The deck isn't a real threat until infinite forbidden. And snake eyes is a lot more consistent.
Totally agree that the generic omni negates have been a problem for way longer so I don't think it was a dud, but that also doesn't change the fact that I hate snake eyes and handtrap wars and just won't be playing the game until the format changes

I think its just because its a ycs. Nobody thinks " i can't wait to reveal my new strat for ycs". They just go for the old reliable and that's it. I hope things develop better at locals where the stakes are lower and people experiment more.
Yeah Runik Isn't the problem. Recently I played against Runik spright fur, I ve never seen a single spright/fur monster, only that Runik that cost my duel. Runik, alone, is basically stun
most people who payed hundreds of dollars won't just drop everything the same month to try and get new decks.

by the time people will change off snake eyes they will print new stronger stuff and will sell you those for 100$.

well jokes on them, im playing pokemon thanks to this new banlist. $20k for winning a regional and doesnt feel as one sided as yugioh. also its not a tier 0 format and full meta decks cost half the price of an S:P

As it turns out without baronne and savage the deck that has the funniest nibiru interaction wins more. For real though, that lab player opened nibiru in all 3 games in finals, no wonder he was runner up lmao.

If they wanted to hit the pure version they should have hit jet Synchron instead of Baronne and Borreload because Dis Pater and Omega are functionally similar. They didn't ban Laplacian, they banned circular. Should have used the same logic here.

Fixing the Fire format is very easy: Limit Bonfire and ban Original Sin.
With this changes Diabellstar/wanted arent going to fix/carry the consistency of the fire Decks. With Bonfire limited they can only rely in the hard draw of the Ash and they would need more engine in their main deck in order to play, and more engine = less handtraps(which makes sense, because we have this kind of ROTA always ban/límited unless the archetype sucks).
With oss ban you don't need bonfire limit, consistency is cut by more than half cause diabellstar and poplar and itself no longer exist as starters, though I'm not saying limiting is bad cause like you said generic type searching spells have a history of being limited like rota and tenki

Of course, i understand why he liked this kind of Baronne/Borreload bans, of course those 2 are very good synchros etc, but the fact that you put them on the same lvl as Crystron, VFD, Rhongo, Shock Máster or Azhatot (Banning them) is like a joke, even more with they 15+ Handtrap format that TCG format is playing, which is even worse than Baronne+Borre lol
@@Rain12093 2 cards being banned doesn't mean they're equal, just means both pass a certain threshold of brokenness and/or toxicity that is deemed unhealthy for the game, in this case being generic omni negate boss monsters which frankly I think definitely warrant their ban given the impact they've had since they were printed and how many people are tired of every new combo deck devolving into a different flavor of baronne savage apollousa turbo
@@jimtsap04 not agree at all, since this was a "hit" for Snake Eye and not for "every deck" if you put attention to this top, you cant see a single Synchro deck and this takes me to my first point about OSS: if they cant go for Jet Synchron because they openend very well they cant go for this Synchro Plays and Baronne/Borre wouldnt see any play in this format.
So anyway, playing Dis Pater + Driver in SE just makes the deck weaker to Nibiru, but dont fix the issue of the SE deck at all. We cant ignore all the pluses and recovery that SE has.
This kind of cards like Apo-Baronne-Zeus-Borre-Accesscode etc always comes and goes depending on the format. So, if we use your argument as a Rule to ban cards that see too much play all the good genéric extra deck cards should be ban or with limitations to their respective decks. Even Josh cant complain about the 'Baronne spam" since he won his last YCS playing Baronne+SP in a Runick deck, thats hypocracy.
If people gets bored of this kind of cards, it's because every single time that Konami makes a new archetype 2 things happens: 1) Their Boss Monsters sucks and 2) they make a very good deck but they nerf the deck to the point where you cant play It or isnt the best option.
At least i feel like they have been trying to fix this issue in the new archetypes, like Tenpai, Voiceless, White forest, etc.
@@Rain12093 I don't think you got my point fully, baronne and savage weren't just banworthy because they were too popular or because of snake eye but because they did suck the identity out of combo decks for years regardless of if you deny, and in a way that it actually didn't even matter if the archetypal boss actually WAS good like chengying for example it still couldn't hold a candle to the immediate safety and power of an omni. It's also not hypocritical cause other cards that have come close to that level of deterioration to combo deck identity like apo, ip and sp have also been heavily scrutinized regarding potential bans and by many people are seen as next on the chopping block after rarity collection 2. Regarding snake eyes, again I didn't say banning the omnis would magically make the deck balanced, in fact I completely agree that oss is the true problem and getting rid it fixes almost everything wrong with the deck, however this doesn't mean that because they failed to hit the deck directly in a very impactful way that the other hits, snake eye just like every other broken tier 1-0 deck before will eventually inevitably get the ban hammer when konami decides they've made their money and it's time for the next deck to take over. However cards like baronne, savage come and DON'T go, they have and will persistently remain causing problems format after format regardless of which decks are at the top so the sooner they are gone the better it will be for the future health of the game and it will even accelerate the kind of unique good archetypal boss monster design you mention since they konami won't have the crutch of generic boss monsters to fall back to when they are too lazy to actually make the archetypal bosses good as well as discouraging them from further printing future bosses that are this strong and generic so they won't invalidate all archetypal bosses again. Lastly, even now looking at the hits in a vacuum of their impact to the snake eye format specifically they still had a positive effect cause while omega and dis pater are strong they simply aren't omnis so snake eye endboards feel much easier to deal with using boardbreakers and engine that you know will resolve rather than hoping to go first or draw enough handtraps, not to even mention the hits to floodgates that snake eye abused making game 2 and 3 hell, which also similar to omni negate bosses are indirect snake eye hits but also good to get rid of for the future health of the game.

The ban list still was rrally good for the overall health of the game, it just didn't do enough to Snake Eyes. But then again, did anyone really expect it to do that?
I think snake eye is a fair deck now. It’s not completely overpowered. I play rogue hero deck and beat them all the time on master duel that’s even with the linkuriboh legal

It seems pretty obvious at this point that Snake-Eyes needs to have 2 Ash taken away and I think also maybe WANTED to 1. I wouldn't hit bonfire because I kinda like that it's non-specific to Pyro, so other decks can have fun with it. But the Snake-Eye engine is what needs to be hit, not the end board, otherwise they'll just end up banning every good extra deck monster for the sins of this one deck.
Omni Negate banned simply means that non-Snake-Eyes have no access to it either so yeah. This is exactly what happened in OCG when they tried to nerf Ishizu Tear but also heavily nerfed spright and branded 😂

To be honest, saying the format is still fresh/new is nothing more than coping mechanism...the format is solved within a week of banlist announcement and it'll stay the same or maybe slight change due to sideboard decision from other deck, but the percentage will more or less be the same
No format is ever 100% solved, and one event certainly isn't enough to get it even close to being solved
At least we don't have SP semilimited 😅

Ash 1 can fix but with LEDE new card now can only one flamberge per deck.
