  • A literature review is a process of critically reviewing and documenting relevant published and unpublished research work done thus far in the area under investigation.
It entails the systematic identification, location and analysis of documents containing information related to the research problem being investigated.
    Purpose of literature review
    i) Prevent duplication of work that has already been done
ii) To refine the problem statement by establishing what others have learnt and reported
iii) Helps the researcher to familiarize with the research methodology- by identifying the strategies procedures and measuring instruments that have been found useful in the investigation of the research problem
iv) Helps the researcher to justify why the research is needed.
    v) To ensure that no important variable that has been found in the past to repeatedly have an impact on the problem is ignored.
vi) Help make the researcher familiar with previous studies and thus facilitate interpretation of the results.
