Recreating Twitch Plays Pokémon

- This is a journey that spanned multiple days as a total of 150,496 unique players controlled a single game of Pokémon Crystal. So huge thanks to @DougDoug allowed me to recreate my favorite historical event: Twitch Plays Pokémon.
Even though this adventure originally started as a race between the Twitch Chat communities of other great trainers (@PointCrow, @CONEYZZ, @GrandPOOBear, @Linkus7, @stanz, @failboat, and DougDoug himself), it became something so much larger. Genuinely my favorite experience I've ever had as a creator. This story takes place over multiple days alongside several mental breakdowns. It wasn't easy, but at least it was possible. One day, I hope to venture off to create Twitch Plays Pokémon once again... as we continue onwards through the Kanto region... eventually...

Chat using the Masterball on an enemy pokemon is quite possibly THE most Alpharad thing they could have done.
They screwed up using not 1, not 2, but 3 whole master balls. And the fact the last one was the biggest screw up of all is just the icing on the cake. Only in an Alpharad stream.

I love how each Master Ball was wasted in a different way. One was thrown at a rival's Pokémon during a gym battle, one was used to catch a Magikarp mere pixels away from a Red Gyrados, and one was just discarded into the trash. All 3 uses were hilarious and 100% Alpharad in nature.

It’s incredibly interesting to me that Alpharad only had to cheat during puzzle segments and in order to rearrange move sets, yet chat managed to delete Hiker Anthony’s number and waste 3 masterballs, while killing 2 legends and releasing/running/killing 3 shinies mind you. Honestly a part 2 to this would actually be kinda funny.

Honestly, my favourite part of this video is right at the end, when Alpha is telling us about the 3rd Master Ball, you can hear a slight hint of disappointed laughter as he says ‘because we f*cking threw it away’
The most impressive thing in this video is that Twitch-chat actually managed to delete the number from the hiker that was getting on their nerves all these days.
Someone else mentioned it was a mod who put the chat in emote only mode just to delete the number which is far more believable and honestly funnier

I'm gonna have to disagree with you there. Fighting Red is climactic, sure, but he reeeeeally isn't a hard fight. Especially in the gen 2 games, the only one of his Pokemon I had any trouble with in my Crystal run was his Espeon, and that's only because it's the only one that felt like it had a decent moveset.
Honestly, overall I think that postgame is overhyped. Going through Kanto is novel, sure, but the end of Johto and the Kanto postgame is where the game's wonky level curve is at its worst. You are practically required to grind for the Elite 4 with how much of a level jump there is, followed by an extra region where everyone aside from Blaine, Blue, and Red are extremely underleveled, and Blaine is an easy fight despite that. And once you get to Red, you're at the point where large level gaps matter significantly less to survivability than the early game.
@@darkiusmc979 yeah I just beat Blue and I'm level 50, Red is level 80 and I can only grind on the level 45 Donphans and Misdreavus in Mt. Silver since Gen 2 has no league rematches
This must’ve been a nightmare to edit. I can’t imagine how hard it was to manage several-dozen hours of footage. How much storage did all that take up? How many external hard drives did you use?
The footage isn't graphically intense or anything, so all 80 hours took up about 320GB, which is way less than I would have expected.

Minor note here- IIRC, Hiker Anthony's number was deleted by a mod who set the chat to emote-only mode so he could assume near-direct control (just to delete that number), not by everyone coming together. It doesn't matter too much, but I thought it was funny enough to mention.

The attention to detail when the dream speedrun music started when alpharad started to cheat was top notch

I'm most impressed that chat managed to confuse a pokemon and IT ACTUALLY HURT ITSELF. Whenever I'm confused I dmg myself every turn but when they're confused they act like nothings changed at all.
I used to do this on a small youtube channel a few years back...which had about 20 people and it was still chaotic, I can't imagine how bad it is with thousands lol

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT! I just fought against Ironwill, playing as Rob. He had the same name spelling and logo, plus he mashed side, down, and neutral B with his Rob, so he played like him too. He must have gotten K-rool into elite smash. I’m very glad that I just found him randomly online, and I got to hit him with an "Our cause is just" after the battle. It's such an honor as an Alpharad fan to meet such a legend. (6/21/22)
