The Volvo S60 T5 R Design Edition produces 247bhp from its 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine, and in appearance would seem to be every bit a true sporting saloon. But does it deliver when it comes to the driving experience? Sarah Brown finds out in this CarGurus review.

This car is just so elegant.
Volvo makes the best looking sedans🔥🔥 safety is on point and the seats are just out of this world 🔥🔥 I hope one day I can drive my Volvo with my wife and kids all the way to upcountry

I like this car, it looks sporty and classy at the same time. I just wish that the fuel consumption was much better.
Tend to agree. I enjoy mine and regularly returned 35mpg+ before lockdown. which is better than I expected. Figures do take a hit if you drive really enthusiastically - but I don't feel that this is really what this car is about.
You don't need to use the touch screen whilst driving, that takes your eye off the road. Just use voice command for the usual requirements such as desired radio programme, seat heating, steering wheel heating, temperature setting, etc. If you want a knob to play with, there’s always the nice big volume control, but you don't even need that - just ask it to increase volume. The touch screen is essentially used for car set-up when you first buy the thing. Anything else, eg SatNav, would be set up before the car is driven, surely!
Love my s60 but beg to differ, Peter.
The voice command system isn't great and I for one did have to get used to using the touch screen - especially for heater controls. Interesting comment about use of SatNav?!
Alan, I agree the voice recognition isn’t perfect but, if you use the lingo itemised in the manual, you should find it works ok. For everyday commands for heating or radio I find it doesn’t miss a beat. I drive an S90, but it should be the same. Perhaps when Volvo’s Mk 2 edition comes along it will be more advanced, like Google or Alexa!? Nice cars though.

Need to test the T6 version. The added supercharger gets it up to 316 hp and there is no lag. It really wants to go, go, go!

When you realise you cant sink your foot on british road without getting slapped with a ticket...speed isnt what you need, and volvo seats are next level!!! So for long drives..these cars are absolutely fantastic. You kinda feel glad your sat in one when you see a tuned car flying past bouncing about all over the show.

Here's a question: why does the S60 only come in petrol with an auto box when the V60 is available in diesel and with a manual box? Aren't they pretty much the same car?

R-Design is probably not the trim to go for if you're after a comfortable ride... the Inscription would have been a fairer review in all honesty.
You buy a volvo for comfort, you wont find better seats in any other car in its class. Brilliant motorway drive these cars...
Exactly I found the BMW to be very uncomfortable while the Volvo was so comfortable I didn’t even know the car was on! Lol

It's crazy that it's fwd based like all eco cars but has less usable room to the rwd entries. FWD based cars are not luxury in my opinion. I'll pass on the Volvo line

Everything you say in this comment is wrong. Sorry. They don‘t go all electric in a few years, they will only have electrified vehicles (so also hybrids, plug ins etc) and it‘s not pointless to invest in petrol cars, no ev sells well exept tesla

Volvo has never achieved anything in motorsport ... so there is no such thing as Volvo Sport. It's just a marketing gimmick.
Really?! Volvo may not major on racing these days but i suggest you look into BTCC history. I suggest you may never have driven a sorted R Volvo either.
