  • Completing A Stuart Triple Expansion Engine - Part #54. My patience with getting this engine to run is coming to an end. I am going to remove the 30 Degree offset pair of Eccentric Sheaves and machine away the one without the Grub Screw, then I will make a second individually adjustable Eccentric Sheave. / keithappleton

Thank you, the results of the Trans Perineal Biopsy were sort of encouraging, but more action is required }:-)))

I have a similar mini lathe, and it has a small steel stop block that clamps to the "V" way to the left of the saddle. It allows me to set a fixed reference so I can do other operations and still come back to the same location. When making a facing cut, it can be set in place and I can keep pressure on the saddle up against the stop. I'm an old guy, but when I was young, an old guy told me that machines are just pre-assembled kits and to take them apart and tweak them to make them right. A lot like steam ehgines! Good luck with your prostate issues, I came through it just fine

Thank you, may I ask which treatment you had?

@keithappleton Keith, I had the robot surgery and came through with a minimum of issues. My PSA was 19. I was lucky. It was all contained and away from the margins. If I have advice to give, avoid radiation, I know of 4 guys that have had complications and do kegel exercises with a vengeance. I completely avoided any incontinence! Good luck, they do a lot of these procedures and they are good at it. Btw, I'm from Iowa, part of the great fly-over region of the USA

Why would anyone make a combination eccentric sheave? Not only would it be a much more difficult machining job to get the correct offset between the two (or three or ???); it is also impossible to to adjust if the machining is not absolutely perfect.
You own experiences demonstrate the futility of going this way. Much easier to do what you are doing and machine a separate eccentric for each.
I can only assume that you did not do this earlier was to show us how hard (impossible?) 'adjusting' a system containing a non-adjustable part is.

I wanted to see if it was possible using the existing arrangement, and it was actually possible to make the engine run in both directions but a compromise of the timing at both ends.
